I've had a ride in a ....

I've had aride in a Phantom XR6 Ute.

A bit over 2 weeks ago.

Boy, do these things go. That Sequential Shift auto seems to work damn well too. I also got to have a good drool and look it over afterwards. Nice.

I can't say I was crazy on the purple striped interior but I guess it will appeal to some.

Can't say I have seen the interior? What is it? The wheel wrap? Gear knob? Interested to know those things.

however, I really like the purple they have on the new xr8 ute add on tv, and the purple shown in the xr6t form above (top left corner)

speaking of the ute, d'yas reckon the xr8 ute will come out of the factory sounding like it does on the new ad?

how good would that be!?!

The interior is generally very nice, with brushed alloy detail trim on the gauges, door handles and gear knob. It is just that the cloth insert pieces (door panels and seats) that go with some of the colours are a bit bright for my tastes.

Ford are calling it a Plexis pattern (kinda of tiger stripes or lightning forks in colour over a dark background). Comes in Purple (Phantom), Blue (Bluprint), Red, Dark Blue and Grey on the XR models only. There is also a perforated pattern and a leather option. What colour/pattern/material you can have is determined by the exterior colour.

You can get some idea looking at the Fabric & Trim area of www.NewFalcon.com.au

The phantom (purple) exterior does look good in real life.

Yes, I reckon the Boss 260 engine in the XR8 will sound just like it does on the TV ad.

have they got a steering wheel that so much resembles AU's momo wheel? I had a ride in the XT falcon before it was actually released to the public, so I got to experience the interior way before it was even shown on the website.

I didn't mind the wheel, a bit european looking I thought.

I just hope they have a wheel as good looking as the AU/momo one.

oh and yeah - damn about that purple in the top left hand corner only being a muck about thing. I was getting wet at the sight of it

I cant see the justification in spending $800 for a steering wheel that looks like that. Its nothing special. ;)

I tend to agree - but each to their own. I think my options list will be comprised of the following:

Leather Interior

Premium Audio System

Carpet Mats

XR Scuff Plates

Sunroof

I'm still tossing up the Premium Brakes - I'd have to see what the standard brakes are like.

I am very jealous of you blokes that have aready had a drive as I am yet to see 1 in the flesh. As it is supposedly 2 weeks to the day that I actually get mine I am thinking about waiting until it arrives before I actually see 1. A bit like people waiting to open presents they get early or not wanting to know if the baby is a boy or a girl. I am sure to crack this weekend and go to the Sydney motor show and crawl all over it.

I agree that the steering wheel is not worth the money and I also think the brakes are a bit exy at over $2,000 extra. Hopefully the standard ones should pull it up. For the record I have gone for leather trim, premium sound, mats and side airbags. Now that I have heard the phantom looks good on the exterior but too much on the interior, I'm glad I got the leather.

13 sleeps to go!

I'm just wondering, will fpv make 6 cylinder turbo like the XR6T but with more power

will ford make a coupe, like a couple of years a ago they had that show car 300+

does anybody know the amount of kilowats the HRT427 has, hte car looks crap but I am interested in the engine...

1. I honestly doubt it because it would be overlapping with the XR8 and GT. it should be fairly cheap and easy for tuners to get more power out of it.

2. maybe, but not for another few years. Ford's just spent A LOT of money on the BA, and they're continuing to spend money on the Raptor project. there simply aren't enough resources to do that right now, and ford needs to build profitable cars. the costs of developing a coupe could not be justified by such a small volume of cars. holden's probably breaking just even on the Monaros.

3. I've heard 350kw, but it should be more. if they wanted 350kw, they should have gotten ford to build their engines for them, not get a 7L (!!!) race engine from the States. it's still a fact to this day, Expensive Daewoo can't build engines for s**t!

FPV have stated that they'll be looking at extending their range beyond just V8s - I would have thought that an FPV Turbo 6 would have been a logical extension. We're talkinag about a stronger gear box (just use the XR8's or the GT's) turning the boost up a little, and strengthening the 6's internals a touch (one would assume they wouldn't increase the power past the GT so let's say 270-280KW output. Realistically, the development cost would be fairly low for a model they could place between an XR8 and a GT - and I'd definitely be interested as would no doubt be a lot of other people.

yeah its true, fpv will have the only v8 line in Australia compared to HSV and Expensive Daewoo which import them from the US

Ive also heard about GTHO rumours which would explain why fpv decided to go 10kw down compared to the HSV GTS

also, fpv have been looking at fpv Focus, that would be a mad car
