    My XR6 Turbo

    My XR6 Turbo - A 2007 BF MkII (07 build date) sedan I bought this car recently thinking I got lucky and had found a winner after looking for a couple of months. It just so happened that my usual mechanic knew the guys who were selling it and it made me feel at ease. I trusted what everyone said and even had my mechanic check it out just to be sure. It felt great and I couldn't fault it...until now. I thought I had done my research but just when I thought everything was sweet I decided to just be extra sure and get a second opinion. Just to give some background I was told the car had certain mods and they all seemed legit and logical as I was told by the performance workshop who last worked on/tuned/modified/serviced the car that the owner was anal retentive and wanted the car to be reliable which I believed even though there were no receipts/dyno sheets to be seen. So I decided to bite the bullet and see someone who knows a little bit about xr6 turbos in the form of Nizpro here in melb. Couldn't be more pleased with the service and knowledge the guys have on tap and are also really upfront and friendly. They put the car on the dyno for me and they also checked a couple of things and lo and behold what did they find but a sh*tty tune and mods that I have been told are more of the budget orientation. I was pretty disappointed at first but then really happy because the $225 I spent on getting the guys to look at it for me may have just saved me the cost of a new motor/turbo. To give you an idea of how bad things can get - the car made 260rwkw (I was told it was making ~280rwkw so that's forgivable...kinda) it was pulling down to 1 degree of timing and the fuel trims were pegged at the maximum which I was told was 30%. Not only that but the car at 12psi had lamda values going from .95ish heading linearly down through the revs to around .70. I was told "It's pinging its head off and I don't want to do another power run". So the moral of the story is to not trust anyone (at least not without proof like me) and have things checked by people in the know. Needless to say I think Nizpro have won me over as a permanent customer from here on in. So what's next? Well an Xcal4 and a new tune is first with possibly other little things depending on what Steve recommends/thinks. However buying a house is happening almost as we speak so no/low boost for me below 4000rpm grandma driving until I can sort the new tune and xcal out. Really can't speak highly enough of the service I got from Nizpro (Simon and Dave) from the email response to talking me through everything wrong with the mods/tune for what I want out of the car. I have no-one but myself to blame but hey we all live and learn. Can post pics of the car if anyone is interested/cares. This forum is going to be like a second home for me I think until I'm happy with the car. Cheers, Nathan P.S.   2. Hey lads, I've just bought an auto 2008 fg xr6 turbo ute that's completely stock. Being new to the scene I have a few questions for the more experienced. Firstly I was wondering what kind of power the stock turbo is capable of and how much psi they can take before things get a bit sketchy. Secondly I was wondering how much power the stock driveline and gearbox are capable of taking. I'm chasing anywhere around 400kw at the wheels. Not looking for something to get low numbers on the drag but something that's capable of smoking just about anything I put it up against. The first thing I'm looking at doing is changing all the stock inter cooler/turbo piping and getting a tune and an exhaust Money isn't a major issue however I would like to keep the costs as low as possible to try and do as much as possible if that makes sense? Any input would be greatly appreciated and there will be photos to come as the build gets under way. Cheers, Taylor.
  3. Hi Guys, Long time reader, first time poster. Sorry if this already has a thread about it, I couldn't find one, so a link would be great if there is. I've just purchased my first car, a BA XR6T ute which I worked for in-between uni over the summer and had it for about a month now. Absolutely love it, wish Ford would keep making them! However, when I was backing into the garage last night, I began to hear this loudish rattle which sounded like it was coming from the exhaust and I hadn't heard it before. But decided I would look at it later. Well today when I went to go for a drive, I drove out of the garage, until I noticed what looked like some string type stuff hanging out of the exhaust pipe. Im assuming this is the exhaust packing. I pulled out about a foot of it, but decided to stop when there was more coming out. The packing felt wet as well, should it? What part of the exhaust pipe is this actually coming from? Is it the muffler? Which one centre or rear? Is it a sign the Cat converter has carked it? I was thinking of getting the centre muffler removed because I didn't really want to spend the money on a new exhaust straight away, but is this a sign that I should be replacing the exhaust? I was also going to book it in for a service next week, should I get the mechanic to look at it then, or just take it to a muffler place? Overall, just looking for you guys advice on what it means and what I should do to fix it. Cheers, James.
  4. Hey everyone, I'm looking at changing to an aftermarket gear knob although I'm unsure of the stock thread size for the 2003 XR6T Falcons. I heard somewhere that they are M10x1.5 although I'm not particularly sure. Also what is the best way to go about removing the old gear knob, can I just get multi grips and twist it off in the car or will it need to be heated etc cos apparently they are glued on bloody tight.   8. So I've just installed a 4" Dump - 5" Cat in preparation to be Tuned on Friday, Problem being I need to drive 6hrs to get to the tuner. Everyone says this will cause Overboost so I took it for a drive to try and activate Limp mode so I would know when it happens and what I'm dealing with rather than finding it all out in the middle of woop woop. Boost seemed to peak at 13psi (OBDII-android device) gunning it in 2nd or 3rd but once peaked it wouldn't boost past 3psi until the engine was shut off, no codes or lights. Made all the regular noises and ran Perfectly but with the power of an n/a xr6 and without the push back into the seat. Is this what normally happens or am I not thrashing it hard enough? Doesn't seem so bad. Also has full exhaust, turbo side intake, stage2 PW Intercooler. Never Tuned

  11. Hi guys. I have a question. I own an XR6 Turbo with an (a-r50 - <- wL->5) Turbo. it has recently decided to stop working, so I bought a new turbo and was told it would just bolt on. The new turbo says its (t04E - T3/t4). As we went to swap them, we realised the old turbo is water cooled as well as oil cooled. The new one isn't. Is there a way to fit the new one? and if not, is it possible to use the internals out of the new turbo for the old casing? Thanks in advance.
  12. Hey all, around a year ago I made a post trying to decide what was best for me in choosing an XR6T or an F6. The time has come for me to choose a car (only have $30k budget though) and the decision I've come to is the following but I need help deciding; - F6 Auto (Found one manual asking for $35k but its too much out of budget for me to get). I found one for $33k which already has had work done to it [350kw] and sitting on 100k KM and another for 28k that's stock and sitting on 130k KM). -XR6T Manual. Not in the colours I want (apart from one but the guy isn't getting back to me). Can pick one up for about $20k and might be able to convince the bank (aka my nan) that I need to spend some cash on it to make it last longer. -XR6T Auto. I'm a little stuck for wear guys. I read up that the F6's aren't even majorly that much faster than an XR6T so I'm a bit confused on what to go for. Also, they don't have the colour I'm after (apart from a Green F6 with 200k KM on it which is way too much). Advice peeps? Is the F6 really worth the extra? The guy who is selling his worked one has had it for two years and he did the work to it via a shop. Better off just getting an XR6T and doing some work to it via a shop? Cheers, George.
  13. G'day, I've been getting the occasional clunk or thump from the back end of the car when I let off the accelerator. It's most noticeable in stop start traffic or when you let up from giving it a boot full. From what I've read on this excellent forum I came to suspect it was something to do with a split diff bushing so I had a peak under the car and sure enough it looks like a split bushing (attached photo). Any ideas how much that might cost to fix and is it worth staying with the OEM bushing given that I don't really drive it too hard most of the time and it's a stock auto or should I look at something aftermarket? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Joe
  14. Hey all, Firstly some history. Car is a BA XR6 Turbo auto running 369rwkw with 150,000km on the clock. It's had a post 06/06 short motor for about the last 80,000km but the head is original. The car has had a miss and rough idle for years. There is no miss under load. It runs fine in gear and under acceleration. Over the last couple of weeks the rough idle resonates and vibrates through the car. Steering column, mirrors, seats etc. It wants to stall too. It evens out after 10 minutes of driving or so but is still there. After disconnecting battery, the roughness is a lot better and doesn't want to stall as much but it's still a little rough. A couple of nights ago it developed a ticking noise which seems to be coming from down low. It's a lot louder under the car. Not that noticeable from engine bay. Car still goes fine under throttle - no miss or reluctance to rev. Still making same boost. No fault codes. Flex plate? Rod? Lifter? Timing chain tensioner? Opinons? Cheers, Steph. .
  15. Looking at putting 1.5-2" lowering blocks in the back end. It's a 2008 fg xr6 turbo. I'm unsure if I have to change shocks and a few other things, and I've also heard that it doesn't do no good to the tail shaft

Wasn't really sure where to post this so thought id start here, I'm having problems with my traction control, car isn't tuned and it's a bf mk2 xr6 turbo After driving for about 5 minutes the traction control light comes on and when I press the button it won't go away, only goes away when I shut the car off. It also when going around a left hand bend feels like the abs/ traction control is kicking in and the front end starts shuddering and wanting to brake and the traction control light start flashing but after about 5 seconds it goes away. Iv cleaned all abs sensors and scanned it with just a obd2 scanner and nothing has changed. It's happened ever since iv had my car (3 months) so it's nothing that I have changed on it that has made it do it, any help is much appreciated
  17. Hi all, Just doing some research into self tuning options for the xr6. From what ive briefly been told on AFF, VCM suite, Sniper Box, and Flash2. Just looking for some opinions on what people have used, if there is much difference between them, and what they'd recommend. The engine is going into an xf so will need to be able to disable the security functions on the ecu and initially things like cruise and traction control. Cheers

  19. TODAY WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN I PUT THE WIPERS ON ONLY TO SEE THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. ONCE I TURNED THE WIPERS OFF THE LIGHT WENT OFF. NOT SURE IF IT IS EARTHING, WIRING ETC... NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT PROBLEM IS.

Hey guys ive just bought a 2013 xr6t ute, found it was super quiet cant really hear the turbo spool, all I want to do is get a bit of noise from the turb, Ive rang a heap of dealers and they all reckon that any mods to the vehicle what so ever will void warrenty, only allowed to do cat back exhaust, I wanted to maybe install a SS growler intake or similar to get some noise, any suggestions
  21. Im Shopping for an fg xr6 turbo and ill need to up the suspension because it'll have a steel tray and a few hundred Kg of tools on it all the time. Also be occasionally hauling heavy scaffolding or cement whenever I need to for work. I don't know much about suspension set ups so treat me like a Dummy who wants to learn. Does the XR6 turbo come with leaf suspension or something else. I don't want to be raising it above regular height, just want extra stiffness when the loads get heavy with comfortable everyday driving.
  22. When boosting it more then 4000rpm my car back fires and power cuts in and out. when I look at the air/fuel gauge when putting my foot down it goes straight to lean. Recently had car tuned but since have changed dump pipe could this be the problem??
  23. Hi everyone, Sorry if I'm doubling up here, delete this post if necessary but just want to know peoples oppinions on tuning for my fg xr6 turbo. It's currently got a CAI and I've replaced the turbo intake muffler with 3" pipe and replaced the bosch bov for a turbosmart dual port BOV. Will it be more beneficial for me to get a proper dyno tune done or get a flash tune controller or what are good options? Its purely a road vehicle and I'm not really after shaving milliseconds off my quarter mile time but do like a bit of a punch when I drop the right foot. Also, and this is probably another topic but when its cold the revs surge around 200 - 400 rpm when you raise the revs a little bit. Idling it is steady but you can notice when you start driving aswell, the car surges a bit till it warms up. I read on here somewhere that a tune can fix this? It's been to ford for this problem but they took my money and gave the car back exactly the same :( Any input would be appreciated!

  25. hey everyone im fairly new to the forums and have owned my nitro blue fg xr6 auto for 2 months now and I love it ive just started thinking about mods.after reading the forums and doing a little work I think ive got a plan im planing to do all the mods at once after owning the car for about 7 months (first service + a month) to get the most out of the warranty, as ive done on all of my cars in the past, im gonna work on making it breath as best as possible keeping to lowsh boost levels, im goin to start buying some parts slowly maby install some if safe, so far im thinking 1000hp plazmaman intercooler kit ,battery relocate, turbo side air intake new bov ,f6 injectors,new fuel pump , valve springs cam regrind/new cams , new leads plugs and coils turbo manifold, turbo bag, 4 inch dump 4/5inch 100c cat 4 inch s/s system with 2 hiflow mufflers mods to the turbo to controll boost ,lower diff gears 19inch rims with good sticky rubber and depending on how it gets power to the ground maby the shocks and springs. aitkenvale dyno in townsville will be doing the job so its gonna be up to them in the end in terms with the cam and computer/tune diff gears I want it to come on as early as possible and sound awsome, budget for the engine work is about 10k (what im telling the misus) but is probly gonna be a bit more just my adding the mods listed in my head, but I plan to own this car for a long time so spending the extra 5gs to make it make the power with eaze seems to be the right thing to do, so what do u guys think of my parts list input would be great ill put a pic of the car up for u guys, standard and still sexy
