  3. Hey Guys! Im very new to this so fogive me if ive posted in the wrong place. Ive recently bought an 2005 Xr6 Turbo BA mk2. 150,000k's on the clock. Before purchasing I had a vehicle inspection done and it came back positive. However the other day I noticed quite a different whistling sound from the turbo. It almost sounded like it was ringing at higher speeds. I let the engine warm up and gave it a hard go. It got up to about late gear 3 around 90kms and the whole turbo cut out and the cars speed dramatically dropped. I pulled over and the car was still slowing down, shaking as if it was about to stall. I turned it off and back on and it was fine. This hapepend twice after I gave it a bit of juice. Ive heard this could be the TPS or another sensor, but I was wondering if anyones had the same problem?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Alex
  4. Hi guys. I am reasonably new to the whole turbo thing and also a Ford fan after a lifetime of being a Expensive Daewoo fan (V8's) so its great to read some of the threads to get some ideas. I now tell my Expensive Daewoo loving mates im not going to argue with you,just go and drive a late model XR6T or G6Et,lol. Anyway,I bought a G6Et late last year and had it tuned plus ID1000 injectors. It made 271kws. Tomorrow its going in for the Nizpro cooler,Nizpro stainless exhaust (4 inch)with dual cats,dump and actuator. Firstly,what sort of power do you guys (and gals) think I might achieve without going too silly,this car will never see a drag strip or race track. I have read some things about 4" exhausts droning but my tuner has said it will be fine so if anyone has this system it would be great to hear from you,thanks. Also,with traction being a bit of an issue now its only going to make it worse although im not a hoon I do like to punch it now and then. I have owned some high powered S/C V8's and have never done burnouts on public roads but I would like more traction to go along with the increased power. I have 18' in wheels,what is the widest tyres I could put on those legally. Any input would be awesome, Thanks again.

  6. Hello, I need some help if anyone cares to give any info on my turbo problem. I have a BA XR6 turbo ute mk2 that has an intercooler, intake pipework, 3.5ëxhaust. I fitted new 60lb deka injectors and loaded my bpracing X3 60lb 11psi tune today (I know using these tunes can be like playing russian roulette and had planned on not driving it until I get it dyno tuned but I just went for a zip down the road).The car idled fine and drove well unti I hit WOT the turbo made an uneven whooshing noise and then made what sounded like a mega blow off valve noise(not metallic), after the noise I could hear the turbo spooling up but it also made a sound like the boost was escaping and the cars performance is that of an N/A vehicle. I will look tomorrow at the turbo and piping but it's too dark now was just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem.
  7. hi everyone I got a xr8 power steering pump and I was going to fit it to my bf typhoon, but when I match up the xr6 pump with the xr8 pump they bolt on diffrently and the xr8 one has a bigger pully, has anyone do this that could help me. or can the xr6 one be modifid to have a remote mounted resvior? thanks regards daniel
  8. Hi guys, this is the first time I've started a topic on this forum so forgive me if my forum etiquette is out of whack! I am in need of some information and recommendations with regards to a flapper mod on my BA MK2 XR6 Turbo. I've been quoted $1,000 to have the flapper mod done by Xtreme Ford Tuning in Perth. I've had all my work done by these guys and although quite pricey, I'm very happy with the results. (currently running a little under 320rwkw with 4" dump and 3.5" single, ID1000 injectors, fuel pump, 12lb actuator, bolt on cooler, growler, valve springs, and a few other little bits and pieces). I need the flapper done because with the current tune from last week (tune needed after putting on new exhaust) the car is over boosting. I have read around and some people have suggested that to save money, it is easier to put on an external gate instead on the flapper mod. This I'm not too keen on as I'm planning on buying an under battery cooler kit later on down the track and would require unnecessary mucking around. Doing the mod myself is also out of the question as my mechanical ability does not extend this far. Basically what im wanting to know is, is this worth $1000? Will I need a retune after doing the mod? Is an external gate a viable option? Should I be expecting any power gain from this? Any help or opinions gratefully taken on board. Matt
  9. Hey guys. I have a ba xr6 turbo. I have recently installed a new LSD diff woith 411 diff gears. At the same time I installed nolathane diff bushes. They have last around 3 months. I am wondering if I should change back to genuine diff bushes but even then they dont last long. Does anyone know any better diff bushes and what do people run. Cheers

Hi Guys, Over the last couple months feels like it's lost a bit of power, and recently the boost is leaking somewhere, as when the turbo is spooling up, the boost is no longer smooth, but instead choppy, I.e. cuts in and out Checked the air intakes for the turbo etc and the air hoses and all still looks fine and well attached. Heard it might be the turbo housing? needs to be tightened again or something? Setup: 2003 BA XR6T 125K clicks on it Running 13psi with xcal Monza cooler Flutter BOV Manual T5 Cheers Big Rob Am I on the right track?

Hi All, Sunday morning brought the nasty sound of a bearing / shaft failure on my 6 month old F6's turbo (at 10,200km) :( In hindsight we suspect it was probably a little louder than 'normal' for a couple of minutes after datrtup the previous couple of days. Now this one has always been louder (induction wise) than the last FG (don't ask why there's a 2nd, unless you want to see a pic of the results of steering rack failure on a month old car...) but not excessively so. Into the local dealer on Monday to let em know & get a warranty repair organised. "We will have to diagnose it first" So, "yes, you have a turbo failure, we think excessive end float & the rotor has gone into the housing." O.K. SO. What I need to know is: What other damage should I be concerned about here. At this stage , I believe they have ordered a turbo, gaskets, lines & filter as replacement parts..... If its on the exhaust side I am presuming that it could have thrown fragments of a blade down into the cat, which would basically destroy it. If its on the compressor side, & we have metal dust going down the intake, what should I be asking them to do about it ? I am concerned that this is all to easy to say "She'll be right" & for them to not worry about the long term consequences of a handful of metal filings having gone through the intake ? Any suggestions as to the path to take here ? Thanks

  13. OK, I know similar questions have been asked but couldnt find any that were exactly the same as mine. I have a 2003 xr6t and recently the left side rear end has been making a clunking\knocking noise when going over bumps and rough roads. It doesnt seem to happen when both wheels hit a bump but rather when it is the left rear wheel by itself. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar thing happen and if there were any solutions to this problem. I have had the 3 diff mounts replaced less then 5000k ago. I have had a look at the bushes and the only ones I can see that look suspect is the top shock bushes. Should these fit flush in the center with the bolt that holds them in becuase there seems to be a 3mm gap between the bolt and the bush. Anything would be helpful. Also one more sympton is that sometimes when taking off from a standstill the rear end will shutter as if somthing is holding it back. Thanks
  14. hey there abit confused with what mods I need done on the turbo? I understand it has an internal wastegate, what needs to be done to get an external wastegate done? does the turbo need to be bored out for an exhaust? and the actuator whats the go with all 3 im abit confused atm.. looking at a 4inch dump to a 3inch system x force and love the sound of external gate? please open to suggestions and help!
  15. G'day All. Just purchased my first fg after owning 2 ba xr6t's. My concern is the turbo makes an annoying howling noise off boost. howling gets louder the more revs you go (before boost) and howls down like a police siren when off the throttle. I havent really investigated much yet though when the turbo is shut off (car turned off) it spools down quietly like normal. What things should I check? I. eg, splits in hoses. loose hoses!? a tiny coyote in that pod looking thing at the turbo from throttle! I did notice this sound on my first ba when it was cold only. its got stat 3 month warranty but id like to sus it out before I take it in to get an lsd fitted next week incase I need to spend cash on it!
  16. TODAY WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN I PUT THE WIPERS ON ONLY TO SEE THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. ONCE I TURNED THE WIPERS OFF THE LIGHT WENT OFF. NOT SURE IF IT IS EARTHING, WIRING ETC... NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT PROBLEM IS.

I bought the car around 4 weeks ago at Manheim Auctions Moorebank, it's an ex cop car and I noticed the engine noise around 3 weeks ago, it only comes on after driving the car hard and/or the engine is hot. So I noticed an exhaust sound coming from somewhere around the footwell, initially thought it was the exhaust but after looking at it last night noticed there was a gap between the turbo and manifold and 3 of the bolts where missing and the 4th was sitting there very loosley. Basically my question is, is there any way to get these new 'double ended bolts' (not sure what they are exactly called) I got from ford in without havin to remove the entire turbo? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Turbo Leaking Oil

    Hey Guys, First post, pity it has to be about a problem with my XR6T. Just purchased a 2010 XR6T with 47000km on the clock. Bought off a guy in Melb who had purchased the car brand new. Car was picked for split diff bushes at RWC which I was assured (by both the seller and Ford) was a common problem. Car was still under warranty and as such was returned to Knox Ford in Rowville to have the parts replaced and was thoroughly checked. Seller provided invoice from Knox which made comment about an oil leak around turbo - "Check for Oil Leak around turbo - Oil leaking out of turbo intake tube, oil in tube is from normal blow-by coming through inlet tube from PVC pipe. No fault with vehicle, removed and cleaned intake tubes and refitted making sure hose clamps tightened correctly". As part of the check the timing case oil leak was also detected and shorter bolts installed and idler pulley assembly was replaced. This check was completed on 02/11/12 and I collected the vehicle on 09/11. Today I took the car to my local Ford dealer for 45k service and when I went to collect the car I have been told by the service advisor that the Turbo needs to be replaced???? On top of this even though the car is still under warranty they have advised that it may not be covered under warranty because the "turbo has been tampered with" and it doesn't have the standard air filter installed. This will result in me being out of pocket $8k for a new turbo :o There was also a comment made in relation to blow back into the engine and hoping that this hadn't caused any damage??? I have spoken with the seller (who didn't have to talk to me given it was a private sale) who has advised that he has not modified the turbo in anyway and I have opened the air box and the air filter is just a K&N aftermarket part which (in my far from experienced opinion) is a ridiculous reason to knock back a warranty claim? I have no doubt that the guy I bought the car from gave the car a squirt (who buys an XR6T and doesn't) but I highly doubt he sat there in a $50k car with his foot on the brake bouncing off the rev limiter doing a 200m skid! How easy is it to blow up a Turbo in one of these? From reading other forums I can see a number of people have had the oil leak issue from the pipe at the top of the turbo. After driving around in my trusty (and yes I know a little boring) BA MkII XR6 this is turning into a nightmare after only 5 days!!! I have attached photos of the Turbo this afternoon after collecting from Ford and you can see the oil as well as a comparison between the filter in my BA (white - which has a full service history with Ford) and the one in the Turbo. Appreciate any experiences and thoughts on the Dealers Comments! Cheers, Pip

  22. Hi all, For some reason the back end of my 03 BA ute has recently dropped very low and I can feel that it has sagged - is there any reason/explanation for this? What would be my options? Note - Previous owner had the springs reset I believe; however, the rear leaf springs just dont look like they used to?
  23. Having one of these under the bonnet helps.... This is project "Monster" F6 built by BTA Motorsports with the aim of getting maximum power out the engine without turning it into a full on race car.
