  1. Hi all, Until a few days ago my car was fine, just noticed a whirring sound when touching the accelerator or accelerating at all. Seems to be when the turbo is spooling up. Car has done 175,000 KM - Manual transmission. Doesn't get flogged very often, take it pretty easy on it since I had the diff rebuilt (A headache in itself. Stay away from Midas in Wooloongabba QLD) I took my car to the mechanic this morning to have them take a listen, bloke came for a short drive and he said it sounded like turbo is shot. He said it would cost about $1500 to replace the turbo... Is this accurate? It does seem to be turbo related due to the whirring, winding, electronic type sound when there is some pressure going through it. Just after some advice from others. Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi every one, Just bought an 2008 FG XR6 turbo ute. 75000km. Service records look a bit light on. No dealer service, only lube masters. Whoever they are. I am going to get a ford dealer to look it over. What should be checked out that commonly needs doing apart, from the usual fluid changes? When I rang the local dealer they just wanted to do a normal service! Thanks.
  3. Is it possible to put a 6 speed zf auto from a xr6 turbo in a N/a xr6?
  4. Hi all, I am now about 75% through my project of fitting late model running gear into a 1966 Mustang Coupe. Engine: Ford Barra 270t Gearbox: ZF 6 speed To share my progress along the way I have built a website to capture it all. It will be updated as the project continues. If anyone has questions I am happy to answer them. Hopefully the site will give some inspiration to others trying a conversion a little bit different or with the Fg setup. Engine and gearbox mounts are now complete so have a look. Site is www.boostedford.com
  5. I own a 2004 ba xr6t with a standard turbo. I have noticed that when my turbo spools under load (generally in 4th or 5th gear) it makes a strange surging noise. The spool does not sound constant like it should. I have no idea what the problem may be. Looking for ideas? Thanks
  6. Iv recently installed a Deceptor Pro Bov on my FG Turbo ute. The Deceptor Pro is a bigger unit than most blow off valves due to the electronic mechanism, so its not a simple swap as it gets squashed between the motor and bonnet. I've done my install with a Turbo side intake so there's more room to work with than the stock air system. However someone else has done this install with a stock air system already back in 2009 so search the Blow off valve workshop for "Deceptor Pro" & you'll find that one. There are over 100 listings for different Deceptor Pro models. Some of them have special flanges for special vehicle and others have different inlet & outlet sizes. I got one with a 25mm inlet & 25mm outlet. for $436 off ebay. I then got an Aeroflow 90degree 32mm to 25mm reducer elbow also from eBay for $18. The factory piping has a reducer coming straight off the intercooler piping. This is where the elbow reducer goes, I cut the 32mm end down to half its length to fit. The factory spring clamps are easiest dealt with using a pair of locking pliers and are reused. The dip stick need to be slightly bent back to clear the trumpet. Then cut the airbox return pipe a bit shorter to suit. I also shortened the crank case air line to make the pipes all neat. The air enters at the bottom of the valve and the 2 on the sides are the outlets. It doesnt matter which outlet is used to vent or recirculate so I swapped them around to angle the trumpet downwards. I also undone the 4 allen bolts and rotated the manifolt nipple 180derees. The intake manifold hose is a perfect size and fits snugly on the nipple. I then found my mounting spot for the dial along with all my other gizmos. Wired the red & black wires to the back of the cigarette lighter. It draws minimal power and the lighter socket is ignition switched. Hardest part was getting the wiring into the engine bay. Loom wasn't long enough to go via behind the drivers side wheel so I poked a hole in a grommet using a coat hanger right next to the clutch hoses and then stretched it open wider with long nose pliers. (easy if you've got a auto.) I ran the wiring along the back of the engine bay along a hose squeezing it in the factory clips. Excess wiring was tied up & tucked under the center console. The loom is sleeved but the 20ish cm on the valve is not. I happened to have sleeving from my computer modding days so I neatened up that bit of wiring. I also purchased a blanking plug and another 25mm outlet. The blanking plug is so instead of adjustable vent, I can do adjustable dose. And the extra outlet is if I want to hide the venting trumpet deeper in the engine bay with some extra piping as cop camouflage. I could also plumb it as a dose/vent adjustment with no option for recirculation. Trumpet: Dose Plug: Read the instructions on adjusting the valve spring tension. Just go for a lap around the block listening to it, adjust it, rinse & repeat till your happy. Installed it just in time for the local charity cruise. My mate did a poor job filming but the kids reaction was the best!
  7. All, I'm looking into turbo upgrade for my FG F6, and have noticed these hybrid turbos are getting some good feedback lately in comparison to the gtx3582 and pte turbos. Some of these turbos are achieving high 9's with supporting mods (500rwkw) Now a lot of shops are keeping tight lipped on the actual specs, which I think is sort of weird because if you buy something you expect to know the finer details of what your actually purchasing. Other than buying one and pulling it apart, can someone give me the quick run down on what they are modding, and what base turbo they are using? PM me if needed. I'd rather make an well informed choice before spending 3-4k on a turbo upgrade. Cheers fellas
  8. Hey guys, just recently purchased an XR6 T. Don't know much about it but learning ... Everything was working fine until recently. When I drive the car, everything is normal except when I push it over 2 RPM's! The normal whistle sound that it makes has disappeared, and the sound that it makes is "chuuu". I feel it losing power and feels like it might be choking in a way. Ive replaced the paper air filter with a KNN Filter three weeks ago. I've checked all the pipes to make sure they're not loose, I've also cleaned the carbonator, and when I opened to see the turbo, it had a drop of oil or fuel there just outside the fan. Is that normal? Think the sound came about when I went to a dodgy petrol station, I put in premium unleaded but since then it has been working like crap, I've refuelled twice since then with 98. But the sound is still there. Maybe il need to change the fuel filter. What could be the issue, has it happened to anyone before? Any help would be appreciated, thanks Senna
  9. G'day, Can anyone provide me with a step by step for removing the stock turbo and installing a GTX3582R, with reference to changing oil lines and necessary mods that need to be made in the upgrade? Can you simply replace the stock turbo with a GTX3582R? Cheers
  10. I've got a ba xr6 turbo and aiming for 700rwhp+, so far engine is down to bare block and have had head work done. Pretty much wanting to know what engine parts are good and what to use, what brands, parts etc. Wanting to run a high mount turbo manifold, what turbo would be a good size, gt42 etc? Engine will most likely run a built 2 speed powerglide behind it. Will be run on e85 so what fuel system will be good to support it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
  11. Hey all, around a year ago I made a post trying to decide what was best for me in choosing an XR6T or an F6. The time has come for me to choose a car (only have $30k budget though) and the decision I've come to is the following but I need help deciding; - F6 Auto (Found one manual asking for $35k but its too much out of budget for me to get). I found one for $33k which already has had work done to it [350kw] and sitting on 100k KM and another for 28k that's stock and sitting on 130k KM). -XR6T Manual. Not in the colours I want (apart from one but the guy isn't getting back to me). Can pick one up for about $20k and might be able to convince the bank (aka my nan) that I need to spend some cash on it to make it last longer. -XR6T Auto. I'm a little stuck for wear guys. I read up that the F6's aren't even majorly that much faster than an XR6T so I'm a bit confused on what to go for. Also, they don't have the colour I'm after (apart from a Green F6 with 200k KM on it which is way too much). Advice peeps? Is the F6 really worth the extra? The guy who is selling his worked one has had it for two years and he did the work to it via a shop. Better off just getting an XR6T and doing some work to it via a shop? Cheers, George.
  12. can anyone identify this turbo housing for me and brand... silly question probably but with someone more experienced I may be able to figure a few things out lol says AR 1.00 M3 any help would be appreciated!!!
  13. Hello, I am new to this forum and new too cars as I am wanting to learn, please no harass or trolls but, I have a ford falcon v6 and is it possible to take it out and put a xr6 turbo in it? Or is that not possible? Thankyou
  14. Hi All I am looking at getting possibly an XR6 Turbo.... I have driven FG XR6's before but recently took 2 XR6 Turbo's for a run... Was quite impressed with the performance....... I have never owned a vehicle equiped with a Turbo and am just wondering whether there any issues with the Turbo's in terms of reliability. I'm looking at getting one with about 60-80k on the clock... Are there any issues in general with the XR6 Turbo models, e.g. possibly drivetrain issues... How long do the Turbo's normally run for, before they need to be repaired/rebuilt...???? I took 2 XR6 Turbo for a test drive recently, they were both ex-cop cars... The acceleration was good, but the decleration seem to be very harsh, and one had a bit of a knock with deceleration...I assume there could be some play in the drive train... e.g When I acelerated hard the pickup was great, but as soon asI backed of the accelerator, the decelaration was quite harsh...as if it was caught in a low gear with high revs, so when I backed of the accelerator, the deceleration was quick/very harsh...is this normal on the xr6 turbo.... I have driven standard xr6's before and never experienced this.... Is it normal that deceleration to be quite harsh on the Turbo's, or is it perhaps something to do with hows the cop cars are tuned, as the XR6 turbo's I drove were both ex-cop cars.... Thanks John :-)
  15. last night went to pick something up in me old mans ute which is a BA Xr8, I dont see there being a difference between the XR8's, turbos or standard falcons in terms of ignition barrels so I figured I'd still post this even though it is in the xr6 turbo section. reversed the ute up a drive way to load some stuff into the tray came back and went to turn the key to ignition and there was nothing, n dash lights or anything, anyway, called RAC out their road side assistance guy had a look and believes it to be the ignition barrel. just trying to find out how much roughly I'm looking at to replace the barrel, I'm in perth with the vehicle so if anybody knows any good places to get it done which wont cost me an arm and a leg, sorry forgot to mention I'm North of the river in perth but I've got 100km towing to any workshop, quite desperate as its on the property where a trucks usually parked. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Hi team, Did a bit of a search to find a comprehensive list of the limits to the different parts on the B series XR6T's, nothing came up. There is a sticky on the FG's but they are a different beast. I guess all the info is here on this site individually, but a nice list would be handy. If we could group source the info and sticky it, might help newbies like myself. Been a Fordmods member for a long time, but they don't seem to have as much knowledge in their userbase on the factory turbo sixes as on here. If we could list the parts, and fill in the blanks about what is reliably accepted from the following components: Factory Injectors: I've been told 10psi will push them to their safest limit. Factory Fuel pump: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. Factory dump pipe: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. Factory Cat: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. Factory exhaust: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. Factory wastegate actuator: good for ??? psi, anything more requires upgrade. Factory Wastegate flapper: good for ??? psi, anything more requires upgrade. Factory intercooler: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. Factory piping: good for ??? psi, anything more requires upgrade. Factory valve springs: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. Factory Throttle Body: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. Factory Tubocharger: good for ??? rwkw, anything more requires upgrade. etc etc. That way those newer to the ways of the XR6T can look up what parts are likely to restrict first, and plan an upgrade path, rather than just go about slapping bits on, without the right supporting mods. Thanks in advance for the help.
  17. Hey Guys, - just interested in all your experiences / comments on the following: I have a 2013 mk2 FG XR6 TURBO UTE with Luxury Pack (Black of course ) Didn't exactly have and cash to spare on it, so have done minimal mods. First thing I did was a Herrod performance airbox. Gain was minimal, most change in the noise. Next thing I did was remove the restrictive ring after the cat. Again minimal gain, no difference in noise. Decided to go for a flash tune, even through I was sure I would never do it until I ran out of warranty - I ended up getting a generic tune from Intune Motorsports in Sydney sent down to me preloaded into a device paired to my car. After the 14psi tune was loaded up successfully, car is much better. Has heaps more power down low speeds - at 0-100 especially. This tune also removes the pop on change (its a ZF), which I did like, however it now lurches fwd on change instead of pausing, so this is a plus for pace. (Also great for power skids, as on a cold morning, you can nail it, wheel spin through first, which is intensified on the change and this goes for a good amount of time through second... just something about hanging it out in a straight line without the brakes.. Once I get up to midway through 3rd... full throttle, it sounds quite rough... still a consistent motor note, just a vibrating kinda roughness through the whole car - I have no idea wha is causing this?? Perhaps running out of injectors? - I know custom tune is the way to go but I wont be doing that for quite some time. Has anyone else experienced this?? On the exhaust, I hate loud cars when just cruising around, so haven't touched it yet... I might do the cat one day... just hafta see.... because Utes sound crap stock... the sedans are way better... guess its just the shorter/single pipe?...but its a no comparison. In the way of drags... main story is with my mates BF XR6 TURBO SEDAN... has full exhaust, injectors, custom tune etc... 297rwkw.... I gave him a good run.... pulled ahead off the mark... and continued to crawl slowly away the whole way to 180kmph - on a private strip. So not too sure what mine would have... maybe around 300?... seems weird, as dyno's all vary, but I dont think mine has a less as 250rwk... which some people claim are the figures after just a flash tune and intake. Glad of all your comments / ideas for what I should do! O and also I have 4 pot brembo's being fitted at the moment... needing to use 17mm spacers to clear the 19 inch luxury wheels. Cheers.
  18. Got my car back Friday from XFT. My car was at 325rwks with Nizpro cooler,4in Nizpro exhaust and cats,dump,actuator,flapper,1000id injectors etc. Was going to go the GTX35 but changed my mind and went with the Precision 6235,also added race air box and battery relocate, valve springs, twin fuel pumps and surge and ZF tune. I had heard the GTX was laggy from people on here and at a track day from GTX owners. The Precision is awesome, it doesnt seem laggy and it pulls harder and harder right up to 6000rpm. Its the first 6235 Simon had done and it made 430kws on 98. I said before the tune I am happy with 380-390 but he said it wants to make power and 430 is it. I don't know the technical reason with boost, psi etc etc.....he's the expert. I forgot my dyno sheet but I'll grab it and upload it during the week.
  19. Hi Guys, I have just finished changing my na ute to turbo. I removed the old na engine and looms, fuse box, ecu and swaped with turbo stuff. After all that I had my ecu programmed and off I go. The ute is a pretty fast ride now though I do have one issue. The doner car was 4 speed automatic and so is mine. I have used all the looms from that very same car. I am using my na auto for now, but when connecting the turbo engine loom to my auto I noticed that there are 2 plugs and not 3 as my old motor loom has. My old loom has a black plug, a round clear/white plug and a three pinned plug (which is the speed sensor plug) I have unrapped the turbo loom and found 2 wires that go to this plug arnt there though there is a grey bridged wire that is. Without this speed sensor connected my car is in third gear, limp mode, does not shift gears from third and wont rev above 3000rpms. The dash D is also flashing. My question is do you know how to wire my speed sensor and to where ? Its just 2 wires that are not connected of the three that are meant to be. Attached is a picture I found on the net of the plug I refur to which is bottom right. The plug has three wires brown, purple/white, grey (which is connected. but the picture shows a reverse sensor which my box does not have.and other plugs which mine dosent need. My ute is ford xr6 2002 ba with a 2005 xr6t motor.
  20. Hi I recently bought a FPV Force 6 wondering if anyone is using royal purple in there FPV or XR6T...I have always used Royal Purple 10w40 in my old VX SS but im new to the ford turbo engine and im unsure what oil to use it states in the service manual to use 15w40 so I am assuming that would be the best oil to use as royal purple make that oil...Dose anyone use that type of oil in there car, How do you find it, my car isnt a daily driver and has no modifcations at the moment...it also dosnt get flogged lucky if it hits boost once or twice in a week
  21. Hey everyone I'm having a massive !@#$ of a time trying to refit my turbo. I'm attempting to install the studs, however I can't get the bottom 2 studs tight, I use 2 nuts together to wind the stud it, however it ends up just bolting the turbo up tight before the stud is actually home and tight. Top ones are fine however. I have a feeling this is due to the the extra thickness of gasket. Any suggestions? I have a feel this H support bracket is the source of many of my issues, I'd prefer to keep it, but I'm just about at the end of my patience so it may end in the wheelie bin if that's what it takes.
  22. Hey guys, I have recently bought a 06 xr6 bf mk1 6sp manual I have installed a k&n air filter and had it lowered on king spring superlows it has pacemaker extractors and hi flow cat flowing thru a 2 1/2 exhaust with twin tip Now here is the problem, it is non turbo atm. I am wondering what would be the best turbo to have installed ? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated , cheers. Also looking to install boost gauge etc, so price ranges would help
  23. Hey guys, I have a stock Bf xr6t. Im looking to upgrade the exhaust to a turbo back. Im heading towards either a plazmaman, nizpro or an xforce turbo back exhaust. I want to know which system is best for performance and sound in your opinion? If you could throw in a link to the exhaust aswell that would appreciated. Also what measurements for the dump pipe and cat will achieve what im looking for? I dont want to buy a 4" dump pipe for overkill. Thanks guys
  24. Hi guys, Few months ago I noticed my turbo started whistling a bit more than usual, typically on mid-revs when accelerating. It started getting worse and more noticable in the last few weeks. Also, there was a sharp, metallic noise that also started occuring on mid-high revs (on lower gears, just before changing the gear). I took it to Ford for a check up and that's the advise they have given me: "Turbo is showing signs that the impeller has rubbed on the turbo housing. To rectify this concern, the turbo will require replacement. Turbo shaft has an excessive play". New car warranty expired 6 months ago (aaarrrgh!) and I've been told that they may try to "talk to Ford" to find out can they do something about it, but most likely it will cost me around $3,500 for a replacement. I know it's hard to ask you to assess wether Ford is right or not without any photos or actually seeing the car, but, does it sound like something that really could have happened and the only solution is to get a new turbo? What would be the implications of it - loss of performance, boost leaks, etc.? Also, the price... $3,500?!?! Isn't new GTX3582R around $1,900? Not sure how much would be the labour though... From experience I know Ford charges sh*t loads for any service. I don't really know what to do, should I just keep on driving on what I have (I'm concerned though that it may affect performance and it just doesn't sound too healthy at times), or get a new turbo... if getting new turbo is really required, go stock or aftermarket? I probably wouldn't be asking Ford to service it as I don't trust their prices, in that case, any places you could recommend in Melbourne for this sort of thing? Also, if going aftermarket, what should I keep in mind, e.g. quicker wear and tear of the engine, additional stress on other underlying components etc? Many thanks!
  25. Hi guys, purchased a turbo of a guy on ebay. Wasnt a shop that sells multiple china gear or anything like that. Was just a guy saying he bought this turbo for his BA conversion and never installed it. Can you help me find out if its fake. Only reason im thinking this is because it doesnt have a garrett plate stamped into the core which im used to most of them having. Otherwise all of it looks real including the FORD exhaust housing. I have a feeling it might be fake core with garrett compressor and exhaust housing.
