Just get new globes and replace them yourself. It's piss easy and need not be done by a mechanic.

but the thing is I don't get how that handprint thing can effect the globes 9-10 months later...the reasoning doesn't make sense at all

Do you happen to get the headlight fault error pop up a few times a month?  Or do both the low and high beams fail for the globe or just the low beams?

For two years I chased an issue whereby I would get headlight fault errors when turning the car off - it would only occur randomly about 2 -3  times a month - and roughly every three months the low beams would fail, sometimes both globes, sometimes just the one. Once it was fine for 6 months.

I replaced the globes with Nava and Phillips crystal visions multiple times and neither resolved the issue.

Then one day I thought stuff this and replaced them with the cheap on sale Calibre brand from Supercheap and they - touch wood - have not failed in nearly 2 years.

The only thing I did was change the globes, the battery is an Optima yellow top - installed by the auto electrician when my battery was moved to the boot - and has been fine each time it's been tested and only the low beam elements failed.

It was really doing my head in, hence why I went the cheap brand, because if I had to keep replacing them, stuff spending $100 or more a pop doing so.

Also each time I replaced them, I always wore gloves because of the reason given by K31th.

nope no issues like that man

  2. Hey guys,

Earlier this year when I bought my car not long after one of my front headlights went out and the other looked like it was weak as piss so I got them both replaced (the standard one, not any special brand - forgot the name but you know what I mean).

Tonight, after maybe driving 5000kms since then, I realised one of my headlights is completely dead again.

How is that possible? Can confirm I definitely haven't left them on overnight or anything like that to overuse it etc. With lockdowns too, it's barely done any miles since putting two new globes in.

  3. awesome thanks for letting me know it's a good deal, felt he was genuine but you can never know.

When I just got the car two months ago I thought I'd be safe and go get the ZF serviced since it's done 105ks.

Supplied my own fluids for the ZF, the genuine one, and I ended up paying nearly $700 to get that serviced, headlight globes replaced as they are hard to do (supplied the globes myself) and had them look at the rest of the car but do nothing else to it. That was a very reputable place in Sydney too, I got pissed off at that but not sure if that cost was right.

  4. Hi guys,

Really freaking out and frankly pissed.

New car I bought 2 months ago, barely drove 1000km this whole time and the car has 106000kms on it.

A few days I was driving and I gave it a light hit to 70-80 and it felt really odd like it almost didnt wanna push more. Later I did it again and it felt fine.

Just then tonight, left my house, warmed up the car a few mins too before I drove off. Lightly drove for a few minutes then I decided to give it a hit when I was driving 50 to get to 80 and it felt weird again. This time, the engine light came on and it was yellow, it went away a minute later.

The car felt weird, like a weird dying vibration almost, so I pulled around and came home really slowly as the car felt weird. It also felt really heavy in the steering.

Get home, the bloody hood keeps dropping on my head, I think it's cause I'm parked on a slope downhill but what a joke that is seriously. I did manage to have a look in this rain after stopping for 5 mins and the oil looked fine. Golden colour and was quite high on the dip stick.

Any ideas what it could be?

When I went to the mechanic a month ago to get the ZF serviced as the owner hadn't done it, they checked the car and did say the engine was seeping oil, which apparently is on the low end of worries in terms of oil coming out. Can't really see anything on the street I'm parked on underneath usually either. But I'm assuming that's not the issue as there was oil in the car.

Super worried, also worried I can't drive the car to a mechanic in this state and I might have to tow it.

The guy before had done all the services every 15k so it looked good on paper and seemed genuine. This sucks 😞

    Any help would be appreciated.
