  1. Trying to decide whether it's worth keeping my XR6T and putting some money into it. I know these car have issues with skinny rod motor and also gearbox. Any advice would be appreciated. Right now the car is stock and wouldn't mind getting it up to the 300ish safely. Car is not a daily driver. The other option I'm thinking of is to just keep it standard and change certain parts to clean everything up and make engine run better. Anyone have any experience with rebuilding an engine or using someone good in Melbourne area? Thanks.
  2. Hey Jamie. Yeah ended up getting the ECU repaired and car has not gone into limp mode ever since.
  3. Thanks fellas, appreciate your help
  4. Ok so basically sanding and then clear coat and spray at shop because I wouldn't attempt that. How long do you think it would take to get it ready and what would an estimate be for paint respray? I know there are those mobile painters that come to you but not 100% convinced with them.
  5. I did speak to ford on the phone a while back but he wasn't very helpful due to the car being 18 years old. Yeah blue print colour was the colour but peeling only started last couple years
  6. Not sure what the best option would be here. I have a 2003 blue print xr6t and unfortunately last couple years have not been able to garage it. Noticed the clear coat and peeling everywhere. Thing is car has pretty low kms and would like advice on respraying. Since there is damage and peeling everywhere would the car need a whole respray? After speaking to quite a few panel beaters I've been given some very high prices and some on the lower side. Its one of those cars still in good shape just paint is becoming an issue. Also I think this was a common issue with the blue print colour on the BA's. Any advice would be great. Just don't want to get ripped off and know its a costly job doing it out of pocket
  7. Thanks. I will let you know how it goes and if repair was successful
  8. Hi I have taken out my ECU to take for repair as car is in limp mode. When I get the ECU back from repairer what is the process to put ECU back in. Is it just a matter of plugging it back? Never had to do this before. Thanks
  9. Again back into limp mode. Today it was a hotter day and I drove the car for about 10 minutes then I parked restarted car and car went into limp mode. Usually I could reset it by switching engine off and switching back on but this time it was stuck in limp mode. So it seems when car heats up it causes the limp mode.. Any ideas? May just have to take it to ford as suggested by k31th but trying to avoid this as I know its going to cost a lot just for them to diagnose the problem.
  10. Last couple of times I took mine to the mechanic there is always someone there that asks me if I want to sell it. Mine has very low kms because work was close to home. I think they will do well long term.
  11. Yeah he mentioned could be a bad earth which would mean something is either loose or corroded. Drove the car today on and off for a couple of hours and no limp mode. Seems to happen very randomly.
  12. It goes back to normal only when I switch engine off and let it reset and cool down for a couple of minutes. But If I keep driving after that will go back into limp mode. When the D starts flashing the car won't go past 45kms and its in 3rd gear. The coolant light does not flash like yours though. What you said does make sense because with my car limp mode usually happens when the car heats up. In the cold weather I can drive the car for an hour before it will go into limp mode. Mechanic thinks its an electrical problem. Electrician thinks its a transmission problem so no one knows 100%. The scanning tool shows a heap of error codes including all solenoids but solenoids were tested and are perfect, auto trans serviced. So he thinks some type of electrical issue is causing the false positive on the scanner. The worst part is not knowing what is causing it. I'm not sure if I should keep going or just cut my losses. If I knew what it was at least I can get an idea of what it will cost to fix. Any other info would be great.
  13. Well I'm not sure if they are experts. One said it was a transmission issue the other said it was an electrical issue. I've had a lot of bad experiences dealing with Ford and I'm just wondering if it is an electrical issue maybe someone has experienced something similar. Or they can point me to something that may be causing it.

    Limp Mode

Hi guys I'm at a loss to what is causing my car to go into limp mode. I have a 2003 BA XR6T 4 speed auto no mods. Car was fine then suddenly the D strarted to flash and car was in 3rd gear not going past 45kms. Limp mode. When put on scan tool all the solenoids show up as error codes and a boost sensor. Auto transmission service completed recently, also coolant flush done not long ago. New battery. All solenoids resistance checked and working properly 28ohmss. ECU harness checked, no cracks or rips on piping. Seem to think its an electrical issue as its intermittent when the fault codes come up they all come up. After 3 different visits to mechanic, electrician and auto transmission shop they said to take it to Ford. I can't see Ford doing much besides charging me an arm and a leg. The car drives beautifully sometimes up to an hour then it randomly starts flashing and goes into limp mode. I'm not sure if its an earthing issue or if it happens when the car starts to heat up. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
