  1. How good is YouTube hey? All the car pages, I get home and go through my subscription feed.. Full boost, carnage, mcm good Aussie content. I did watch this clip and pretty much based my ideas from it.
  2. While I'm waiting for the sanding stuff to arrive, I will turn my attention back on the wheels.. I just love the design and working on these wheels so much, sporty yet classy and oem rim, so good. I gave them another skim of filler and let dry. I was looking for a simple solution to filling the gutter rash on the rims and this Permatex stuff is pretty spot on. Its a one part filler and pretty much starts to dry as soon as you squeeze it out of the tube. I let the first round dry and came back after a few days and it was rock hard this skim coat I let dry for about 30 minutes and it sanded down with ease. Quick wash to get all the sanding dust and crap off. I'll probably do one more heavy duty scrub and final check before I etch prime certain spots and high fill primer the rest.
  3. Appreciate the discussion fellas. Perhaps our wires were crossed when I mentioned the drop in pots if Joe was thinking those cheap and nasty no name type ones on eBay. Either way, I'm happy to work off his suggestions and if I need to redo things due to surging for example, I will put it down as a learning exercise. I'm planning on hunting down a second hand turbo cradle and will look at getting the 460 and proper mods and fuel lines in it to make my own drop in unit. Atm my focus is still on getting the paint and wheels sorted and looking good. The boot I am happy with. The roof and bonnet still needs works. It appears the sanding discs I have been using a very good at super fine finishing but not the best at defect removal. By defect removal I mean the last 10% of orange peel left in the paint. So I have gone out and picked up a proper orbital sander with extraction capability, soft foam interface pad and 800 grit sanding discs. I'm hoping to go over the car with the 800 dry in one pass and get the paint as level as possible and then go back to my original method of ultra fine finishing 1000, 2000, 3000 wet. I would estimate I've spent 25+ hours sanding I'm sure a proper body shop could knock this type of sanding job out before morning tea break haha.
  4. Yeah I have been searching through stacks if threads just reading up on as much as I can. I was set on the 255 big pot setup but again when I spoke to CMS and mentioned the big pots from eBay he said they are all garbage. I suspect Joe is used to big power setups and the higher end of things so he has a high standard of what parts should be used. So hopefully going off of his suggestions, I can turn up for the tune and everything goes smooth. The plan is to locate and old pump assembly and have a play with and make it work. It will give me a chance tonsory everything out too like mods to the pot, appropriate fuel lines in the assembly and so on.
  5. Got a bit more done, started on the wheels filling all the scratches up, sanded down pretty easy with 360. Might go over them one more time and see if I missed any spots. A bit hit and miss with the paint today. Some sections which sanded down flat came up really good but other sections no so much. The boot is really good with the paint sanding down flat and gloss levels coming up nice. The roof, not the best. To get the best results I need to sand it more and at this stage I have started to run out of steam.
  6. Keen to see how this unfolds..
  7. Injectors and pump rocked up today.. Ended up going the 460 and 1000cc on Joe's recommendation. I am thinking of picking up a cheap fuel pump assemble to modify and prepare to just drop it in when the time comes. Is there any reason why I can't use a bf xt, xr6, Fairmont Ku.p assembly or is there a difference with the turbo models? Should I get one of the adjustable gfb regulators or drill out the stock reg for now along with drilling out the restriction in the pump?
  8. Ignition repair kit arrived today. My car had the typical 'key not returning' on start up and I had to manually pull the key back a little bit. Pricey kit but looks heavy duty so should do the job well.
  9. Thanks mate, hope to get lots more don't at the weekend.
  10. It might look like I'm just uploading the same photos and not achieving much.. Well, 7 hours in the garage today wet sanding. I got myself setup with various grit paper and foam sanding pads. I went over the whole car with 1000 disc, whole car 2000 disc, 2000 whole car by hand and block and then finished with another round of 2000 on the roof bonnet and boot. The car is looking good. Still some minor defects in the paint and I could keep sanding to make the surface perfectly level but I will keep as much paint on the panels for future corrections. The pads work and they are very forgiving. Designed to use damp so I got an old spray bottle and filled it with water. Spritz on the panels and on the pads and as you run the machine over the panel you can see the slurry of paint its taking away. They are very fine because a sheet of 2000 is course compared to the 2000 pad. You can see the white colour transfer on the old pads from today. At this stage I will go over the car with 3000 maybe twice and get ready for compound and polish. A few additions are some genuine ford floor mats with locking tab for the drivers seat and a cover for the center console. Looks pretty nice, eBay job, wetsuit material.
  11. Came to the conclusion yesterday that I had to go back a few steps with wet sanding and start back at 800. There was just too many defects in the paint that I want happy and after testing a section with compound it confirmed that I will have to go back and level out the paint a little more. So I spent the after back on the 800 wet going over the car with a long block and the bonnet, roof and bonnet and hand foam block on the doors, front a rear guard. Results are much better and I think with going over the car a few more times and working back to 3000 the car will polish up well and have minimal issues. The first 2 pictures are the section I worked on doing a compound and polish step. Keep in mind this is coming from an 800 grit sanding job. Much much happier with it because I know more fine sanding will only give better results. The last boot picture you can see the dull matte like finish from wet sanding and then the polished section. White is a hard colour to photograph but yeah. A buddy of mine moved overseas and left me his dual action polisher and a bunch of products. I was using them without much success and came to the conclusion they had gone off. Work time was short and wipe off was a pain in the ass. I tried some basic retail level meguairs ultimate compound and polish and it worked a treat. I can see myself buying some all new products in the near future. Then... Doing some research on line I saw some dudes cleaning wheels with oven cleaner. As most of you will know who have used this stuff its nasty nasty sh*t. Get a hint of it and you'll choke. I remember using oven cleaner to completely strip a set of anodized handle bars I had for a project I was working on. So it jogged my memory. Wheels are at the stage where I can do the rest by hand. Its done a great job and shifting the dirt and dust that was stuck in the rim.
  12. Cover the post and I'll send it down mate. I can't see myself using it.
  13. That 3v is a proper boat anchor eh.. My pick would be a mkii bf Fairmont Ghia turbo, it just makes sense.
  14. Saw this on the tube.. Really like the 'out of the factory' style of the car.
  15. Yep.. Eyeing out some local blasters atm.. I will do some work to them once blasted and fill up a few of the gutter scratches and then a lick of paint. Perhaps powder coating would be best.
  16. Started to clean up the Fairmont wheels. They are too far gone, brake dust has embedded itself into the rim and is very hard to get out and will take hours and hours to clean up. I think the only way is to get these sand blasted to start fresh.
  17. Ok so from the above posts, surge wont be an issue in this first round of tuning (I cant see injectors - pump - tune being more than 240-270rwkw) but I will factor in a surge tank in the next round of upgrades and perhaps the 460 can stay in the tank to feed the surge so not all is wasted.
  18. Certainly overkill but not necessarily a bad thing.. However if I am anything like the guys in the rest of the forum I will get a little taste and lose all control of myself until I have 700rwkw haha I wasn't aware of a surge issues with this setup but will read up on it. Is the bf mkii tank like in my car the same design as the fg?
  19. Just spoke to Joe. His suggestions were in tank 460 with return mod and irrigation type fuel hose and 1000cc Bosch injectors. I will roll with that.
  20. Sounds like a good plan mate. I will call him today and see where he is at. I know heaps of guys suggest doing all the mods once and then going for a tune, I still want to to do it in stages. Even if that means 2 or more tunes. The car is 'getting on' - early in the thread I noticed the turbo shaft had a small amount of play, the engine has 200k on etc so this first dyno session will be more of a test to see how the engine is going, transmission too. Im gearing up for an engine/turbo freshen up basically. Once that's done and I'm confident, more upgrades for power. Another big weekend ahead, hoping to wrap up the wet sanding on the car and make a start on getting the Fairmont Ghia wheels up to spec..
  21. Good point mate.. In that case I might as well just get him to supply and fit them when its at the shop.
  22. Big pod all the way! What do you think of those injectors I posted in the link. Risky?
  23. Unfortunately yes haha I tried a few things heat gun and the like but it was tough, 3 hours for 3 doors and rear window. Luckily the white door I fitted didn't have a tint. I still need to clean up 100% maybe with some thinners but the grunt work is done.
  24. Starting to eye out some performance replacement parts, mainly fuel related items. I am set on getting the big pod walbro 255 kit and looking also at injectors. Plan is to get the car ready mechanically and registered then get out to CMS for a tune. I was thinking a tune, injectors and fuel pump. Im not so much interested is big power or big boost at this stage just to get it on the dyno, tinker with it and see how its going. So I saw these on ebay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Falcon-BA-BF-XR6-Turbo-FPV-1000CC-Fuel-Injectors-Barra-4-0-E85-Safe/401907200922?hash=item5d9389339a:g:ixMAAOSwcGhdk0qg I dunno, cant find much info, brand etc just wondering what you guys think? Would it best to buy quality injectors from a local shop? On a side note, I pulled out the old window tint today... Wanted to pull my eyes out in the process.
