  1. Cars up and running again. It appears sitting for over a year with e85 has killed both lift and surge pumps. Ive borrowed a module out of another car and bypassed the surge to confirm my suspicion. So will chase up new pumps when thing reopen. Other than that, no funny noises, no cel, no leaks, good oil pressure. Mind at ease at this point.
  2. Hey guys, been a minute... pulled the car apart around a year ago and taking it pretty slow getting things done. Damage was bad, threw away pretty much everything. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
  3. Good points fellas. I'm going to use this experience as a trial run so ill know what better steps to take next time. No shortcuts. I managed to have a look at the car, with all the plugs out it doesn't crank on the starter. The starter engages but no crank, its locked up and #6 plug looks like this.
  4. something head gasket related by the sounds of it. Havent seen the car yet to confirm
  5. Pains me to write this but the engine has let go again. happened on the dyno while having the tune looked at. I am yet to see the car but tuner is saying something on number 6 with water entering the cylinder. a bit late but now will be time to pull my finger out and build up a reliable engine. Spool kit or atomic short rebuild kit something along those lines.
  6. Finally the car is driving under its own power again. I had a helper come along for the first start sitting in the car monitoring oil pressure and key duties while is scrambled to get as much oil in the trans as possible while listening for any knocks, rattles or leaks. The temperature gauge went haywire, fans came on and it went hot even though no visible signs of overheating from the engine bay. Filled water through the thermostat housing and topped up the rest through the bottle. Just came good out of no where. Dumped the oil after it all got up to temp and filled with fresh stuff and have logged about 200km. Its started to smoke ever so slightly on the first cold start which leads me towards something going on in the top end. I outsourced nothing so very well could have been an issue already. Catch cans are free of oil and even removing filler car shows minimal if any blow by. The aim is to log a few more hundred kays, get it on synthetic and get the trans and engine tunes looked at again. It also appears while the car has been sitting, the front right wheel bearing has packed up and started making a noise. So got 2 on order to replace as soon as possible.
  7. Engine has been back in the car for a few weeks now, transmission arrived and quickly fitted into the car. Few things to tidy up and first start should be a few days away. Fingers crossed for good oil pressure and no knocks bangs or rattles haha I've had to resort to riding my mt09 to get my thrills. Major first world problems.
  8. Engine is ready to go in the car now. Re used my valve springs, head studs and oil pump. New guides and tensioner, head gasket. Drilled and tapped a spare na sump for the oil return.
  9. that's not too bad for the crank I just might do it. Ordered the spring so that's on the way.
  10. You rekon I should fit a high pressure spring like the plazman one? That kits looks nice I was looking for something like that. Hard pressed for time is the issue and this really is turning out to be a half slap job. Any tips on diy polishing the crank? I've got half a tube of autosol haha
  11. So far I've gapped rings and checked main bearing clearance. Rings top and middle gapped at 23 thou and main clearance came in well past the service limit. After watching the average garage video he mentioned he spoke to atomic who said its ok, we will find out. At this point I'm doing everything as best as I can but don't really give a sh*t about what happens when it goes in the car and fires up. The acl bearings look trash, is this normal?
  12. Picked up a gas engine with plans for a low buck rebuild and attempt to re use as many of my add ons as I can. So far I've got an elite gasket kit, dominator head gasket, Hastings rings and acl bearings, genuine rod studs. This is being done late at night a few days a week because that's the only time I have available. It looked like the gassy had run on petrol and didn't present clean like they normally do. All good, more cleaning.
  13. I did see some bits in the manifold and cleaned the shizen out of it while I was de greasing. I will have another look when the new engine goes in. Will need to check the turbo too maybe even pull the cooler too. Think I will just scrap the block mate, wont bother stripping it. However I think youre on the right track with the failure.
