One of climate changes biggest "fans" Mr Al Gore, still flies around in a private jet, and his house had the carbon foot print of 20 houses (source: Hack on JJJ). Tell me with a straight face that he really is taking the whole thing seriously. Not to mention his appearance fees to talk about the subject. Whilst I'm not convinced either which way, I doubt we are solely responsible for any current shifts in climate. Further more every event which they are saying is currently happening, they can pin point another time in history when such an event has happened. As for tree planting companies, half of them don't want you to know where the trees are been planted, because they have been slack in planting them. There was recently an audit done on a few of them, and it turns out that there are millions of trees which have now been paid for, but not yet planted, with no time frame as to when they will be planted. (source: Hack on JJJ) Tell me honestly that green is not big business, and that the people advertising been green are in fact taking their own advise. Because Al Gore sure ain't.

Ah I feel sorry for you. If you need a static IP find a new ISP (I suggest Internode, they tend to be more geek oriented and can do like that). Optus only like the Mum and Dad subscribers which means that they provide a connection that's it. Anything more fancy and they don't support it... I once had a Optus "sales person" cold call me, after messing with her mind (yes I was bored) and explaining to her some of the finer details about the TCP/IP protocol she leveled with me and suggested I stick with Internode... (great sales person)

Buy an IT guy a case of beer, they will then open your computer up, plug both drives in at the same time and transfer what you need across, 160 GB will probably take an hour or two, but it's far easier than DVD's or USB drives. If both machines have a network card (maybe, they are now a fairly standard item in machines, built into the board) get yourself a cross over cable, and use it to transfer. Once again 160 GB will take some time but far easier. (leaving you time to help the IT guy drink his case of beer)

I'm with I.B. on this one smicky. Yeah, maybe the guys at work gave a bit of at the start, but unless you where doing something to draw attention to yourself I doubt they would have thought it was you out of the 16,267 possible T's on Sydney roads, especially as you are driving around in the wrong colour (as you kept pointing out)... (OK so I pulled a number out of my arse, my point still stands)
-
It also depends on the power supply that you've got in it. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a new case (which usually comes with a power supply) than just replacement power supply to fit newer boards. the other stuff like your DVD burner and card reader can go across with no problems.

Yeah, they did that with my trade in, gave above what Red Book said I'd get for a private sale, let alone to a car dealer...
-
Which dealer? I know that the one in Phillip takes kindly to been told "get the deal right and I'll sign on the dotted line today" We got a load of freebe's thrown in as a result when we brought the missus's 3.
-
Hasn't happened to me either, but happens sometimes. Glad your ok sutty, enjoy the new car shopping...
-
Yeah that was my thoughts of the VZ's, I was seriously considering buying one............Before the test drive...

I remember when getting my L's all those years ago reading a part on radar detectors in the handbook. There where only three reasons you where allowed to drive with a radar detector in the car. (ACT laws) 1. You are driving to a police station to surrender the device 2. You are driving to an auto electrician to have the device removed 3. You are driving on or before the date which the device must be surrendered as specified in the infringement

Ah Harold, the guy who has not a clue, and yet does enough thinking for everyone... I think I'll keep my tinting, it'll help give me deniability when it turns out I was the one who failed to see him crossing the road.
-
There are your key words, even if they tacked on an extra 30KM/h to what you where actually doing, you where still over by 30KM/h.
-
The thing would be useless for anything other than track days, but gee you'd have fun... Talk about an engine with wheels
-
No, speed kills, have you ever seen a car accident involving 2 cars which where not moving?
-
This is the big problem with modern day cars, and especially high performance cars. They are very safe, have excellent handling, brakes, and especially with the T's silky smooth acceleration. They do not feel overly fast until your pushing big numbers. The problem is that even 40KM/h can feel extremely fast when the car loses it and is no longer in your control. (Trust me on that one, I was at an advanced driver training day when the T came off the track, it was only at very low speeds which all of a sudden felt very fast whilst sliding sideways out of control) Most modern day cars will easily reach 180KM/h, and the modern day performance cars will reach speeds of well over 200Km/h. The even worse problem is that it's not until you've hit these sorts of speeds that it truly feels fast. Anyone who is not used to performance cars can easily be tricked into thinking they are going slower than they really are. These been a few times in the T where I've been thinking I might be only doing 130Km/h to 140Km/h, where I've actually been in a different gear to the one I thought I was in and I was doing 200Km/h. Given that it's very easy to build the speeds up, it also means that when things do go wrong it's happening at much higher speeds. Even the best drivers in the world can't do anything when their cars turn them into a passenger at the higher speeds, just look at any car race. I'd say most of those guys would be amongst the best drivers in the world and they still slide off the road from time to time. What chance does the average joe have? [/rant]

I'd be surprised if they can book you whilst on private property. But that said, if a mm of your car went onto public roads you'd be a goner...
-
Yeah, I've always wondered why anyone who works direct for the gov't (be it coppers or the lowly public servant) has to pay taxes, it's almost like they giveth with one hand and taketh with the other? Wouldn't it just be more efficient to not charge tax at all??? (Hey my 1000th post)

I wish them luck, but they are going to be looked at as a bunch of complaining kids by the pollies. Most pollies don't care about anyone under the age of 18 a they do not yet vote. Furthermore the number of magna driving old farts which will be please by these laws far out weights the total number of P plater votes. The argument about undoing all the work of the designated driver program is valid, but then the solutions offered by the pollies is get a taxi. Of course the pollies who have influence haven't actually been that age for many years so they forget how little money such people have.

didn't mitsu offer 10year warranties??? or was that only for a limited time of which there is only 6 years left???
-
It a rule which only punishes the good. Let's face it, if you wanted to get loads of people into your car even as a P plater you would. You would simply remove the P plates. The people this rule is trying to stop are the people who get four of their best mates and then wrap the car around a pole. The problem is that these sorts of people don't really pay attention to laws. How many times have we heard of cases where people where killed ridding in the boot? already very illegal yet people still do it. (Hey I did it when I was in my younger more stupid days) Yes driving is a privileged not a right, so lets make the punishment for breaking the road rules far more heftier, eg fewer point, life time disqualifications, even jail for those who don't get the message. (hey we'd do it for unlicensed gun owners). Coupled with a far heavier visible police presences. There is nothing in the world which will make traffic slow down that a visible police car. (Undercover cars don't work as there are so few of them about). I know there are a few people here who may disagree with this (eg Those with heavy right feet)... The other thing they should be doing is building more race tracks for the public and make it easy to get onto. (Eg have a stretches of road which is unlimited in speed for this purpose) so that people have a place to have fun. Just my 2.2c

Sort of, but this time I don't think it was truly the bean counters fault (although the cut backs on the design for financial reasons of the 380 didn't help). The 380 which was meant to be the car to save mitsu in au, was never really a good car. They started off with a good idea, but it was poorly executed (cutting back on things to help differentiate the car so it wasn't just another clone was not a good idea). The end result was something that didn't know what it wanted to be. It was never really in the running against the Late model camira or Falcon, and with the Aurion been launched shortly afterwards it left the 380 as a large car when the world is going green. As a car to drive it was never anything special (I had the privilege of driving one for a week last year in Darwin) where it was nice, and certainly had a decent interior, but certainly nothing that would make me want to place down 30K. It was bad timing on behalf of mitsu to literally place all their eggs in one basket. It was an even worse move by their former CEO to leave as the 380 was launched. If the company truly needed a strong CEO with a belief in the company that was the time. It was no secret that the 380 was meant to be the company saviour. But this is my 2c. Here's hoping the ex mitsu guys and gals get new employment quickly...

Wouldn't bother with a faraday mesh as all that will do is help ruin your TV and mobile reception. Just watch the episode of Myth Busters where they try to steal power from a high voltage power line. That will remove just about all your fears from them. (In other words there is bugger all power unless you actually touch the damn things.) Your resale value however will be shot. Unless the house has something else really going for it I wouldn't bother. (If you do however want to go for it, try offering a third less, depending on how desperate the other guy is to sell you may grab a real bargain)

Another signature... I cringe every time I see the word hoon or modified car in a news.com.au article, because no doubt you'll then see 300 comments from d*ck heads calling for the banning of anything except for grandpa's magna's on the roads...

My advice is pay for advice... Sure bounce ideas from friends and the forum, but ultimately pay to get professional advice... There is two reasons why you do this, the first is that if you hire a professional to provide advise they should know what they are talking about... The second is that if they don't know what they are talking about their insurance should cover your loss... The other thing (and yes I'm not a professional, but it's something that has been recommended to me by those who are) have a good business plan with a good exit strategy... Apparently 98% of businesses don't have a plan, and a very large proportion of those fail... Good luck... PS contrary to some of the other advise, simply loving what you do is often not enough, hire people to run the parts of the business you don't want to do or don't have the time to do...

The problem is that the layman doesn't know the time, and expertise which goes into a lot of the work. The plumber knowing exactly how to hit the pipe to get it to work again is a good example. One of the problems I have is that I head out on-site and look at something small, and I also feel a little bad sending them a big invoice for such a small job, but then I think "It's cost me time and money to learn how to diagnose that problem, it taken years of experience to be able to do it quickly, and that is what they are paying for". I charge between $110 and $165 per hour depending on the job and \ or sale, but I might go for a week without any sales or jobs. I still have bills to pay and a T which keeps asking for petrol, and I still have the running costs of my business, these don't go away because I haven't brought any work in, (over Christmas is a great example). Plus the tax man comes in and takes a huge chunk of that money in both GST and other "misc" taxes. In fact it can be as bad as 50% of the money you pay me goes to the tax man and other people with hands out.
