  1. I am well past 40, and on my way to 60. There is no way that I want to be still working at 70. If I lost my job now, and could not find myself another job in 12 months (because I'm sooooooo old) I would be more than happy to serve my country in the armed forces. Did you realise that Australia is one of the very few country's in the world that you can remain on the dole indefinitely? There has to be change to the current welfare system to weed out the lazy and the cheaters.
  2. I think that the dole should only be given out as food/clothing/fuel/accommodation vouchers. It should be illegal for a dole recipient to use my tax dollars to buy alcohol, smokes, or play the pokies/gamble. The dole should only be a stop-gap measure while the person is between jobs. If the dole bludgers cant get a job within a 1 year period, they should be automatically enlisted into the army/navy/air force for the total period that they have been on the dole to pay back what they have been given! as far as the pension is concerned, I agree with Whinginator, you'd better start saving for your retirement NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also, can the politicians pension, it is a slap in the face for all Australians as to how much these bastards pay themselves at our expense. They are public servants not returned service men/women.
  3. Disbelief that I could get so much pleasure from hearing a sound , coupled with my ooohs and arrrhs
  4. Went for a drive up the mountain for lunch at my mates at Yungaburra. Love hearing the turbo spool going up the hill. Window down, in second gear, using the throttle , silly grin from ear to ear. Priceless look on my wife's face
  5. My sound system is no match for .Stripes. but connecting to a pc is what I love, the sound system is also hooked into my home network and can access all music content from my pc's. I built my own media pc a number of years ago, (the silver box) but now you can buy micro systems that will do the same thing for just a couple of hundred bucks. In the current digital era, it is great to be able to access ALL of the available content and stream it into your living room. I use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard (you can buy small form factor keypads) which has a very good range (about 30m) Playing games is also extremely good through a pc, I haven't experienced mouse lag so I must have a half decent TV. In short, once you hook up a pc with Internet access to your tv, you'll be wondering why you didn't do it sooner!
  6. In all reality, your TV is a monitor plugged into a PVR and/or a Foxtel box. The PVR and pay TV box are your signal receivers. If you can still buy a non smart TV then you will be saving yourself 4 to 500 dollars. As far as smart TV's go, nothing "smart" about them. If you want that sort of functionality it is still superior to plug a network capable TV into a computer, you get full internet interaction in the lounge room. In my limited experience, NO "smart" TV has full internet functionality (please inform me if I'm wrong) I bought my last TV 18 months ago, 55 inch Samsung plasma (not "smart") for $600. That TV is plugged into a PVR, Foxtel box, a computer and a Yamaha amp. imho, you need a few hdmi inputs, probably 3 minimum, and a network plug (RJ-45) you will need to hook up to a descent sound system as most flat panels are so thin that the speakers are total crap!
  7. I always fill when I stop at a sevo, don't want to waste my time stopping more than once a week!
  8. Finally it's here :-) Open day tomorrow http://www.springmountraceway.com/
  9. Just watched a replay of the weekends world superbike races in Thailand. Great to see our man Troy Bayliss (3 times WSBK champion) ride as a replacement for injured Davde Giugliano. There is still hope for us "oldies" Troy is 45 years old, qualified #7 on the grid for the 2 races on sunday. came 9th in race 1 and 11 in race 2 !!!! and that's against the BEST superbike riders in the world. He announced "permanent " retirement from WSBK after the race weekend with this comment "I've had a great time. I didn't expect to win, it was great to experience it all again but I've had my time so I'm happy to go home and enjoy my family, and leave it to the young guys." Troy Bayliss = Aussie Legend

  11. washed my car today, then waxed it with Bowden's auto body wax. Love the smell (banana lollys) Car looks GREAT! went for a drive up the coast road (Cairns to Port Douglas) and stopped along the way and took a few shots. Ill post some as soon as I downsize them
  12. there is a "right" way.------hint, when you stay in a hotel the toilet roll is never "under" config
  13. Me and the wife are off to Europe in 7 weeks , on the way there we are going to Shanghai for 3 days. My wife just had, and Im booked in to have Hep A and typhoid shot. I would never risk my own health, it realy pisses me off that some parents will risk their kids life because of something they read on facebook/internet. These kids now pose a threat to the health of our society. Im not a fan of the government telling me what I should and should not do, but legislation for compulsory immunization sounds like a must for these moronic parents!
  14. Yes, it does pose a problem in the middle, but on the left it is alot lower and would be similar to a triple pod gauge setup as far as blocking your view

  18. Ive been off the radar twice in this life, packed in the job and headed overseas with a round the world air ticket. First time with my girlfriend, second time with same girl married. Been married 25 years tomorrow ! We went places that spins me out looking back. (traveled to 47 countries and are in the process of organizing a trip to Europe for our wedding aniversary) Ive had many jobs in 3 different country's, Ive lived in big citys and small towns, I dont have many regrets. If you are seriously considering ditching your job, I say do it, dont hesitate . If you hesitate, next thing you know you'll be up to your eyeballs in debt spending the next 15 to 20 paying off a house. Life is short, I turned 50 last year. I dont feel 50. Time accelerates as you get older, age and time seem to be linked exponentially. I seriously only feel 38 or 39, but I think that's because I dont have children (one of my regrets) Stripes, do it. Get off the radar, have a look around before your time begins to accelerate. BTW, I have my own house, an investment property and Im just a lowly blue collar worker
  19. Looks like they might be a bitch to keep clean
