  1. Ok so I have just done this fix in my brand new FG MK2 XR6T with premium audio. I am coming from a bunch of cars where I built pretty big stereos, including my last car, a Late model camira with near on 2k worth invested in front speakers and thier amplification (this was a SQ system I competed with once or twice) suffice to say the premium audio was a fair bit of a let down, not that I expected it to be anywhere near my previous systems, but I at least expected something a fair bit better then stock. I found while the system sounded ok the bass was definetly hollow and anything over 21 on the stereo resulted in the sub distorting. So today I finally decided to do this mod, it literally took 10 minutes following the advice in this thread - the FG MK2 has two holes in the boot liner next to the sub so you can reach in and disconnect the white clip from the sub, then simply remove the bottom panel, and then put a small flathead screwdriver just below each wires connector and pull the wire out, swap them over then put it back in. The difference to me is absolutely massive, the car actually has a fair bit of bass now, it can be turned up to around 30 with no distortion and while it will never sound as good as my previously built systems (no stock car audio will) it is a pretty great system for a stock car and I have not heard any other premium audio system that is better at this stage. I have owned the car three weeks but regret not doing this sooner, seriously - it will literally take you 10 minutes of time, and you dont need to cut and shut things etc - I advise everyone to give it a go. Cheers to those in the thread for advising of this quick fix.
  2. Well I ended up getting a car on the weekend, ended up getting a mk2 2012 plated xr6 turbo, white/auto/luxury pack for just a tad over 40k from Sydney, hardest thing was I went to three different dealers, they are all flat out at the moment because of the finance offer, and many were not willing to budge much on price as January had been a bit of a bumper month for sales with the finance offer. One dealership wanted 42k for a non turbo luxury pack! Dreaming! Went to the dealership with the car I wanted ( luxury pack etc) and offered him 39k and I would sign then and there, otherwise I was going to look elsewhere, he told me there was very little margin and he could not come any lower then 41100, so I walked. Went to another dealership who had a few in stock, but only 2 standard xr6 turbos and one ltd edition, he said the best be could do this month with the sales offer was 41k for a standard xr6 or 42.5 with the ltd edition, maybe a bit better if I was ready to buy there and then. Told him about the luxury pack at the other dealership for 41k and he basically said that's a great deal and he couldn't match it, even said it would be a struggle for him to sell the standard one at that price. Called the other guy back up, told him what I had found elsewhere (with a porky or two thrown in) and managed to get the price dropped a touch and some basic extras thrown in (floormats/iPod cable) etc. and it was done So am now the happy owner I a brand new xr6 turbo (feels wierd I have always been a Expensive Daewoo fan) From my experience I reckon you could get them a bit cheaper depending on the time, it seems that the finance offer has really helped make some numbers up and hence they are less likely to do deals this month (one of the salesmen that I wasn't dealing with but just havin a chat to was having a bumper month, said he had already put pen to paper on three cars on saturday morning already and it was only lunchtime) . I think trying to find a car really quickly before the finance offer was over probably worked against me slightly as well, but I do really like the car I ended up getting and can't wait to pick it up tomorrow.
  3. Guys, been doing some ringing around of some dealers tonight just to see who has stock a the moment before I drive up on the weekend, one dealer had a brand new mk2 xr6 turbo with the luxury pack for 41k not including on roads. That's without haggling or anything yet, would I still be able to knock a couple grand off that you reckon or would there not be much wiggle room in that?
  4. thanks for all the info guys, it is much appreciated. Looks like I might be headed to sydney this weekend to have a look - any dealerships that are a must?
  5. Thanks mate, am Definetly looking at something like that, just seems like canberra dealers never have many if any demos, so might have to find a few in Sydney and make a trip up and do some wheeling and dealing one weekend
  6. Hey guys, pretty new to the forum as I am looking at purchasing an xr6 turbo in the coming month or two, just currently deciding whether to spend 33-35kish on a low kms used mk2 xr6 turbo, or to look at purchasing a new one at around 42k? On fords website it states that a new xr6 turbo limited edition manual rrp is 42k, but I am probably looking at getting the auto, so that would be what, another 2k on top? Anyone bought one recently and was able to screw the dealership down further etc? I am canberra based but am happy to travel if there is a dealership giving good deals etc. Assume no trade in at this point. Cheers all
