  1. And yes 2 multimeters are in use, one is a very low ESR type ( 0.001 ohms resolution) for checking ground connections. As said my next step seems to be an ECU swap but my local Fraudster will NOT link a second hand ECU in and insist it has to be a new one they supply at an all up price of $3100. Car is a nice Fairmont but not worth that sort of investment.
  2. New CAS, Power Steer sensor, Foot pedal AAC swapped, (Total PITA!!!) All earth connections re done with zinc conductive paste to chassis and tested. ECU lifted then regrounded and connectors cleaned as well as the engine loom. Vacuum leaks in inlet plenums checked. Chinese alternator swapped out with Ford 2nd hand in case voltage regulator dodgy or intermittent short as that was the last thing replaced before this all started Now if I had the many thousands some think I should have for a VCM then yeah, lets drive around to log issues just like the Fraud dealer did with their VCM and they never came to any conclusion beyond throttle body errors despite what one would have expected. So maybe I am a dumb ass to those it makes feel better but I still have the problem and obviously I have run out of ideas which is why I was asking for help. Very rarely I also get brief throttle surge or cutout. Unfortunately my next step seems to be an ECU swap which I am dreading... It all seems so stupidly frustrating.
  3. Just to clarify it was a new TPS and second hand throttle body they fitted ... CAS just replaced still happening. Sigh. I have the gut feeling this is all a related consequence to the dodgy alternator that was replaced. Hence why I mentioned it.
  4. Hi, On a fishing expedition for suggestions re Why! OK, have inherited a July 2005 BA Fairmont mk2 i6 4spd that has an intermittent engine cutout or limp mode fault. History is this. Dealer serviced it's entire life as it was bought with an 8yr / 175k dealer warranty April 2018 the alternator crapped out, replaced. In July a new problem emerged. The engine light would come and limp mode engages. Fraud dealer looks at a number of codes for traction control, clears them, go away. Next event was Throttle plate stuck open, replaced with 2nd hand throttle body and all is OK... at least no charge for labour by Ford! Next engine light error codes say TPS so replace TPS, cleans throttle body etc usual stuff. Obviously does not fix the problem. At this point the owner cracks the sh**ts and buys another car, goes away on hols and sells to me a week ago at an excellent price. OK now to the meat of the issues; Two types of fault behavior; 1. Limp mode reduced power sluggish box sort of. 2. Engine nearly stalls, ECU tries it's best to sorta recover, all dash error lights are on Now here is the interesting part, pull over, key fully off, restart system and problem disappears most of the time. Sometimes do this 2 or 3 times and all is happy The fault Never happens from cold, go for even a 1km drive, get bread milk etc, back in, startup and crash. Water is barely warm. Pour boiling water on ECU and still starts and runs fine. In reading this and other forums some people suggest the crank angle sensor and yeah, maybe, but with all the other error codes re traction, TPS etc I suspect not. TPS replacement is another common suggestion but has been done. Just putting this out there on the most informed AU forum site I know of guys. My first thoughts are ECU or maybe a CAN buss problem. Heck could even be a cluster connector need cleaning. Dunno and rather than chase down 15 different ideas I am hoping someone has had this type of problem before. Cheers
