  1. Hey everyone, need some help please. I had my bf mkii turbo tuned some 7 years ago, I have left it on the highest tune this whole time. The other day I flashed it back to stock before leaving the car at a mechanic. The car definitely has less power and throttle response is not as sharp, but it doesn't feel and sound like it was before the tune. I can still hear the turbo whistle and the boost gauge is going over 10 psi, it also has a pretty loud flutter out of the bov when backing off. It was quiet as when stock. The car is stock other than a tune, hole cut in air box, that's all. I followed the promps on the xcal 3 for "return to stock". The procedure went perfect. Is it possible that running on a tune for so long has changed things in the car? Do I need to reset the ecu? Any experience or advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

  5. Some good calls there. I've spoken to my tuner and tried to explain all that and he suggested I do the fuel pump to gain a bit more of a safety margin. He reckons the fuel supply was inconsistent and could be due to lazy pump, that's gonna set me back another $400, I hope it makes a difference otherwise it's a waste, he's gonna play around with the actuator and re tune it. Will be interesting to see what results he gets this time. This visit is going to cost $700. I should have asked him to change the fuel filter as well since he thinks that the car is having fuel supply issues, I guess he should know if it needs changing or not. I'm getting the car back today or tomorrow, I'll post up the results.
  6. Thanks for the variety of suggestions. Actually the clock gauge is $110 and the boost gauge is cheaper at $80 for this particular brand I looked at, can't remember what it was. Don't know what's going on there.
  7. It's more like for the missus to be on time. She drives it more than I do. It's the whole look of the extra gauges that I like. Most people who look at the car won't even know what gauges are in there. Where can I find an FPV clock that mounts up above the windscreen near the map lights?
  8. I've seen 52mm clocks. I might go for a boost gauge and a clock unless I'm willing to go for a 3 pod gauge holder. I wish the clock was on the ICC.
  9. Hi all, I've searched all over and cannot find an answer to this. I want to install some FPV gauges where my clock is, does that mean I have to do without a clock? Some ICC units have a clock on them, can I get mine reconfigured to have a clock? I have the premium sound with dual zone climate control. What do most people do? If I really want to have a clock would I need to install a clock as one of the gauges? Some help or advice would be great.
  10. That's pretty much what I was after. I want it to come on boost hard and early, that's the whole fun of driving a turbo car. With the street tune that I'm running now, you start to hear the spool sound at about 3000 rpm but there's no surge of acceleration, (like it had with the stock tune) it just start to pickup speed gradually like a N/A car. Riptide, what happens when it doesn't hold boost? Does it suddenly let go of power? What does it feel like and is that bad for the car?
  11. You are spot on! However, he's going to now charge me for a retune which I think is unfair. There was no consultation with me whatsoever during the tuning as to what the limits of the car was and what I would like him to do. He just went ahead and maxed everything and when he was finished, took the car off the dyno, took my money and told me that the car basically cannot handle the tunes that he's put on. (all the while thinking " I'm gonna get this guy to spend more money now") I'm gonna ask him to touch up the tunes to be safe and leave the car as is, hopefully he doesn't charge me (much).
  12. He told me it's about an 8 hour job to change the actuator and wants to charge $1000 I think he said. I'm thinking of calling him back and asking him to retune the car as is (stock as a rock) he manage to get 290 rwkw out or it so I think he should be able to back it off a bit to make it safe and I would be more than happy. The reason why I need a retune now is because he scared me when he first tuned it by telling me not to use the race tune and go easy on the street tune until I do the actuator. he should have just tuned it the best he could for what the car could safely handle instead of going nits and then handing me the car back and saying don't use the race tune ect... That's not what I wanted. Also, the car doesn't feel as quick as when it was stock until you hit 4500-5000 rpm. The turbo doesn't kick in as early and as hard. I raced my brother's V8 who (when stock) would get about a car length ahead and then the turbo would kick in and I would instantly catch him and pass him. Now with the street tune he keeps pulling away until I hit 5000 rpm and start to catch up but by then he's already 2 or 3 cars ahead. Even the wife said it doesn't feel as lively, and the wife of course never floors it so at light throttle and low rpm the car is slower. Not happy!
  13. Thanks for the replies. I spoke to the tuner today, he quoted me $700 to do the injectors, $1000 to change the actuator, $200 to port the wastegate, and $500 for a retune!!! Total $2400. Add that to the $2500 I've already spent and I'm looking at nearly 5 grand for a stage 1 tune!! Am I getting ripped here or what? I told him that was too much, he then said maybe just do the injectors and he'll try to play around with the actuator to see if he could get it better and a re tune for $1200. He also said I might need to do the fuel pump. Is this cost getting ridiculous or what? I originally just wanted a tune with stock injectors. Help me out guys. Is there anyone in Sydney I can call for a second opinion?
  14. I went to tunehouse at marrickville Sydney. I've read heaps of good reviews about them on this site. The $2000 included an Xcal3.
  15. Custom tune only $2000 (I know that's a bit high but he's supposed to be one of the best tuners in Sydney, I went with the idea that you get what you pay for), re torque inlet & exhaust manifold $100, replace spark plugs and re tension all intercooler hoses $234, replace one injector o ring $125. For the actuator, he said not to use the race tune and not to rev past 5000 rpm on the street tune as I could get boost spike and I could blow my engine. So, for nearly $2500, I now have a car that I'm worried to drive in fear of something going terribly wrong. I'm starting to regret the whole thing.
