Why go high comp?  It just limits what you can do with the car. Stick with 8.5 comp IMO and let your turbo do what it's designed to do.

After the hassles I went thru... Absolutely... I reckon I wud hav squeezed extra KW with the low Comp + extra boost

  2. Just to further ad to our previous conversations on my engine build post Mat... My last car ... An r31 RB30t... I built it with CP NA forgies... Tuner couldn't run more than 8psi on 98... Few people said the tuna was the problem, but in the end I ended up running E85 full time... I'd bet you'd hav to do the same ... Forget risking 98 Mat

  3. Just an update... Emailed Brett from Shockworks... BA-BF Coilovers are $2200... Delivery to Syd West is $60... Sounds like a value upgrade.

Question... Currently have Pedders generic red urethane front lower control arm bushes ... Harsh as... Was thinking of a change to super-pro? Any other recommendations?

  4. J... I'd just take the plunge & go & see Independant motorsports & do the same to your Terror as what this guy has.  I'm from Sydney but plan on a trip to Melb to get my ZF upgraded to a stage 2 from Nizpro... Y??   Mate they have the runs on the board... These forums are great as they give you an idea of what does & doesn't work. Good luck mate .. Luv to see another territory in the 10s

  5. Am being serious masdang!!! ??.  Wel knowledge is King & another convo with John ... Says they've done numerous xrs with 500+ rw without plate changes which r still going  ok... As the only concern with these pumps are the sintered gears disintegration... It should b fine

The pressure relief mods are to increase bypass at high revs to keep pressure under control and reduce the chance of splitting the housing.

So if I am not planning to increase revs past current limiter (not sure if 450ish rwkw is possible) there's no need 4 this?

  7. Am hearing & understand all yr theories... But yes... If the backing plate isn't worn.. There won't b any pressure bypass through the plate... And assuming relief valve mod just holds more pressure inside Ye engine through harder Spring... Anyone change Spring themselves?

  8. So finally got a set... $170/tyre F&B from AAA tyres castle hill.  AWESOME VALUE!!!! Not as good thru the corners as Potenzas... But great dry/wet grip... Handles 300rw pretty dam well.  And real quiet

  9. Part of my Engine rebuild will require Pump rebuild with 4340 gears ... Noticed intune sell them 4 $389 4 the FG... BA/BF are $429... Wudnt they b the same?  What other brands do people recommend ?

Got my FG F6 motor apart and they're definitely a cast mahle piston, but they are different. I believe HI PSI said the same about his short motor when he got his, and also read an article recently by someone who a lead designer or something at FPV who also said they arent forged but a different heavier design and lower compression. Theres a BF into the 8's on stock cast turbo pistons so its not the weak point of the engine anyway.

... and mattyp is right. High comp turbo e85 is the only way to go!

Great info luke ... Thankyou ... I do understand yr hi comp favouritism .... But I want to b able to run on 98 as well as possibly E85... My last car (r31 RB 30t ) was tuned on E85... Mainly cause the pistons used were too high to run on 98... In short was a pain as I had to travel out of my way to fill up... & as it's also my only set of wheels I also take long trips with her.

Curious ... Did u buy the engine from a salvage yard or do u own an F6?  If U bought how much?

  11. Thankyou ralf... I will let you know 4 sure... But was under the impression FGs don't suffer from this... My mate worked @ peter warrens & said FGs didn't seem to suffer... Even tony from Tunehouse had the same opinion ... Let's hope this wks

  12. AND... I'm really getting annoyed with this friggin turbo-exhaust flange bolts which keep coming loose!!!! Tunehouse changed bolts to studs (with a gasket )but even they come loose & 1 has even fallen out !! .. don't want to change to a top mount manifold... Can I run an FG?

  13. Looks like F6 has stronger rods , but block is same... Still think spool or alike wud b the way to go ... Yeah tuners in syd are hit & miss from my experience... Seen sum guys get great results & then sum hav engine failures from the same stable... Gonna really research that area

  14. Won't do a high- comp turbo to run on E85... Wud just consider tuning on E85 4 extra tuneable power ... I have the Herrod E85 compatible pump so it allows the option... My tuner 4 current tune is Tunehouse... But am considering spending a few weeks in Melbourne for a holiday & getting Nuzpro to fit the upgraded ZF box & tune ... They're proven & cheaper than tunehouse

  15. Thx 4 the input guys ... Question... F6 has same rods as XRT ? Think I want a bit more re-assurance than this... Where do I get pump gears from? These just increase flow or pressure?  E85 has crossed my mind.

  16. Hi All

yes like many of us XR owners around Aus... The stage 1 tune has lost it's appeal & now bigger things are on the card.

Just want to confirm that've there's no reason I can't build a NA barra engine into a turbo? Would I be better off going for a BA/BF  or FG donk?

The plan is spool rods/forged pistons, arp head studs & crow springs/retainers. Of course a standard reco of the head is also in the plan. Head gasket recommendations? My plan is to tune this to 450rwkw. Any other advise would b awesome

    cheers

  17. Hi... Yep that time again... The potenzas have worn away.. In no time I might ad... So time to pik a few brains b4 shelling out. Checked a few forums & the nexus radial gets a pretty good rap. Anyone used them?

  18. was @ WSID about a month ago & couldnt help but b amazed @ how qik the XR's are going now. In particular a burnt orange FG ute with plates "Martins" on it. In between runs all I seen was it had standard Ford hardware under the bonnet... it idled as a stocker but managed a 10.7. Id love to get sum info on who did the work & what was done. I managed a 12.9 with which I was fairly pleased with... but now am inspired to go further....sound familiar? ;)

    Cheers

  19. After buying Phillips "blue" headlight globes (both H4's & H3's) im getting annoyed @ how little time they take to fail. I definately didnt touch the glass when changing & my suspension isnt much harder than standard Ford XR.

Ive noticed a post here discussing HID conversions on the FG...is there also for the BA/BF? Is there much involved in this convert & do they last longer? Absolutely hate changin globes on my BF...a pain in the U no where. Please no one dare recommend me use Narva.... they shud be called NEVER
