  1. Happy Birthday BluePrintMe!

  2. Hi Hotxrturbo6 Most of the modern turbos nowdays are very smooth and progressive in their operation, boosting as low as 1500rpm. In the case of stock BA models, they provide all their 450Nm tourque from 2000-4500rpm. You should also be able to hear it sucking a lot of air from under the bonnet when accelarating hard from 1500-2000rpm, proof that the turbo is working. The only shove in the back you will get is when you kick back a gear or two and accelerate hard. In gear rolling response may not feel as quick, but trust me, it is against a clock and particularly a normally aspirated Falcon. Once you've fixed your problems and tuned up nicely, fill up a near empty tank with 98oct and you'll notice the difference then. I also had the same problem JVK mentioned some years ago. Started the car one morning and hear a loud "click" from behind the glove box after which the heater didn't work. Ford charged me $800 to remove and refit the entire dash to install a $30 plastic arm. Cheers, Anthony.
  3. Hi there and welcome to the forum. I had similar issues about a year ago on my BA XR6T and trawled through the forum for what the cause may be. There are one of three things that could be causing this. 1. Wastegate faulty (as you mention). 2. Old coils (one or more) not delivering enough power to spark plugs. 3. Leaking inlet manifold which needed gasket replacement (which was my case). In my case, it was boosting fine at 2000rpm, but by the time it reached 3500-4000rpm I was getting severe shuddering whilst accelerating, and loss of acceleration as a result. I enjoyed the exhaust pops and crackles when it was doing this though but more glad to have full power back when it was fixed. Cheers, Anthony. 2004 BA XR6T sedan, Blueprint, 165,000kms and gettin' a bit clunky.
  4. Hi folks, I just read in my latest July edition of Wheels magazine that the new FGX XR6T will be upped from 270-310kW, hopefully starting later this year around December. Basically it's the same as the previous FPV F6 310 engine to be put into the base XR6T, but the overall weight is expected to be less than the FPV. Does anyone there have any further details on this? I really want one !!!! :wwww: Cheers, Anthony. 2004 BA XR6T sedan, Blueprint, 165,000kms and gettin' a bit clunky.

  8. Hi ice186, Funny you should mention that you're getting just short of a fortnight's worth before needing to fill up - I'm in the exact same boat and know that feeling, trying to hit the petrol price cycle at its cheapest lol! 45km round trip x 10 working days for me in the fortnight was bringing down the DTE to zero. Once I ran out in peak hour on Hoddle St (right next door to the MCG) bloody embarrasing. Eventually I overcame it by working from home one day per fortnight. Couldn't agree with you more on the ZF - I wish I had one. Mate of mine has a Territory (non turbo) with the ZF box and what a huge difference it makes to the old clunker 4sp job including improved fuel consumption. My wife likes the look of the FG series.... time to see if I can do some convincing. Good luck with that tune. Cheers.
  9. My guess is that after your blast, there may have been a different oxygen sensor reading in the engine, and the ECU increased the idle and made a richer mixture to compensate, and possibly a noticable reduction in performance. If it goes totally out of range you will get a warning light. But I wouldn't worry about it if the idles back to normal now. If any warning light appears then give your Ford service guys a buzz.
  10. G'day ice186, My wife and I swapped cars 3 months ago, and here's what I observed. BTW I have a '04 BA XR6T 4sp auto stock. Myself - half the time cruising on freeway at 100 kmh, half the time stuck in stop-start traffic. Occasionally give it some stick, when I get the opportunity, but kept within speed limit. Result a fairly consistant 14 l/100km. Wife - No freeway cruising, mostly short local trips, more extended idle time. Almost never pushes it (but loves it when she does). Result varies 16 to 19 l/100km. In my observation it seems that the T is extremely sensitive to driving style and that range can vary greatly. Last summer when I drove from Melbourne to Apollo Bay twice, it returned 11 l/100km overall. Interestingly I filled up before leaving, and along the long flat straight of Princes Fwy btw Melb and Geelong, its average dropped to 8.8. But as soon as I encountered stops through Geelong, it rose up to 12, before settling down to 11 for the remainder of the trip. Also I noted no improvement in consumption whenever I've used 98 Octane, apart from a bit more grunt, so I've always stuck with 95 oct since. My 4sp auto revs at 2,200 at 110 kmh, not much different to your 5sp man. However your new 6sp auto I would expect should have a taller 6th gear than this. Also its reasonable to expect that the newer the model, the less they guzzle. The FG is supposed to be better still.
  11. BenWhite & Stang, I'm also with AAMI and have two cars due for their insurance renewals early October. 2004 BA XR6T - $710 up to $943 Subaru Liberty - $490 up to $599 I thought Ouch! So much for loyalty being with them for 16 years now. With no claims, Rating 1 for life, garaged in Blackburn, 39 yo, I've started shopping around for other quotes (Shannons, RACV, Budget Direct). Even a fresh new online quote from AAMI proved slightly cheaper at $919. The cheapest premium was with GIO, with $809 for my XR6T albeit with a slightly higher $600 excess (AAMI excess is $550). Would anybody on this thread recommend GIO as I'm very keen to convert both cars over to them.
  12. Mine's a BA '04 build auto sedan, fully stock, which I purchased one year ago exactly with 95K on the odo, from a collegue at work. Now its coming up with 106k with no major issues. My only gripe is that the body is starting to become considerably more creaky/loose even during the 12 months I've had it. That is more creakier so that my wife's 10 yr old Liberty. I think that says something abt Aussie build quality compared with the Japs. However I'd have the power of the XR6T anyday.
  13. I have averaged a fairly consistant 14.7 l/100km in my '04 BA XR6T auto sedan around the city in Melbourne since buying it in Oct '06. Checking at every fill and comparing with the trip computer showed that its almost spot on accurate (0.1-0.2 diff at worst). A recent cruise to Ballarat return saw 10.9 l/100km which was impressive. However when Eastlink opened 3 weeks back with no tolls, the traffic jams on the Eastern Fwy and Hoddle St, saw that increase to 15.5-16 l/100km for my last couple of fills. That was entirely attributed to sitting there stationary and burning precious 95 oct not going anywhere. So if any of you out there feel that your driving habits haven't changed, take note of how long you've been sitting stationary in traffic, which is quite inefficient for the T. BTW I have not noticed any improvement in economy by running 98 octane. However the improvement in performance is noticable, especially with the T loaded with people. For me its probably not worth spending the extra for it.
  14. That click you're hearing when engaging park is just the park lock pawl engaging in the auto. I hear it too but that's quite normal.
  15. I've had the same issue with my auto, clunking loudly from park to reverse on occasions. However I attributed that to the park lock pawl disengaging when there was undue pressure on it. To avoid that I do the following when parking .... select neutral --> apply handbrake fully --> then select park Any slope in the road then puts the pressure on the brake and not the auto, and I've never had a clunk since then. Give that a try - maybe it'll help. Speaking of reverse, have you guys ever had trouble with reverse taking a long time to engage? I'm starting to have that trouble with the engine at normal operating temp, and it takes 5-10 secs for it to engage when I shift from D to R when parking. No problems when the engine is cold. When it does engage, there's a faint click fromt he auto when it finally engages. I've also noted that if I gently blip the throttle when it doesn't engage, it comes to its senses immediately and reverse engages, usually with a lurch backwards. A bit disconcerting/embarrasing waiting for it when doing a 3-pt turn in heavy traffic.
