  1. also depends on how much power you want to run. If you're gonna be modifying the car I'd go with an auto gearbox or a 6 speed manual. but either way, stay away from the 5 speeds.
  2. yeah you can get an NA ute for around 13G's but after converting it to a turbo its gonna be way above 20G's that you've spent on it. Not to mention that when you go to sell it, you'll never get the same value as you would if you'd bought a turbo to begin with. BUt that's just my two cents. Who knows, maybe someone on these forums has done this kinda conversion before and can tell you what to expect. All I can say is looking at the CAPA website, to convert from NA to turbo is something like $6000 just for the kits, let alone installation anhd everything else you have to buy. Factor that into your 13,000 for the NA ute and you've paid more than what you could buy a turbo for. Another good source of advice would be to ask a tuner, just call them up and tell em what you're thinking about doing and they can advise you on the best path to take. good luck mate.
  3. Mate my car sounds sweet with the mid muffler removed and the hiflo cat on. Love the sound as it sounds normal when driving it in normal conditions, but when I start it up or give it a good hit you can really hear the difference, huge difference! I love it.
  4. converting an NA to a turbo is not only gonna eat your pocket but its gonna open the door to all sorts of problems and things that can go wrong in a car when you convert from na to turbo. I agree with XRTPSI, don't waste your money, go for the turbo straight up.
  5. Hi guys, Just got my car and have had it tuned with capa flash tuner, typhoon CAI, centre muffler removal, hi flo fuel pump, valve springs and hi flo cat. Currently I'm making 241 rwkw but my goal is 300rwkw. got a couple of questions: 1) I'm getting injectors soon and hopefully a monza or other intercooler. will this be enough to get me close to 300rw kw??? 2) My tuner reckons I can achieve 300rwkw with just an exhaust and injectors on top of my current mods. IS this possible? If not, what more do I need and how much will it cost. 3) will I need bigger brakes or a stronger gearbox if I plan to drive the car hard (which I do ) with close to 300rwkw? its a 2003 xr6T auto by the way. Funny thing is I planned to mod the car only up to around 250rwkw but as soon as I got the current 241rwkw I knew I wanted more and now I'm obsessed Thanks for the advice.
  6. I'm interested in these injectors too. I'll talk to my tuner tomorrow and I'll keep track of this post. cheers guys.

got it from the auction at belmore. theres 2 there, Pickles and the motor auction group, both within 1km of each other. Check out their websites to see what cars they have on offer at their auctions. Also I think theres another group called IMA (the independant motor auction group), just google them and you'll find their website. Some auctioneers give you a blueslip with the car and others don't, depends where you go. either way you should be able to get a pretty good deal at auction. Mind you there was an immaculate 03 xr6 turbo that was for sale on carsales a few weeks back and that went for $18,900. I called the guy to buy it but it had already been sold within 2 hours of me having inspected it. Point is there are good bargains out there but sometimes you gotta be quick to get them. Either way, auction or private seller, its cheaper than getting it fomr a dealer but it is riskier of course as it comes with no warranty. Good luck fellas.

Mate I just bought a 2003 xr6t with 93000kms, leather and premium sound in good condition for under $20,000 at auction last week.
  9. okay, I'll call a few more guys tomorrow. thanks.
  10. howdy, I just bought an xr6 turbo yesterday and am already looking to modifying it. I have around $3000 to spend on mods at the moment. I've been quoted $1700 for a flash tuner installation, custom tune and an f6 CAI. Is this too much coz I know the flash tuners go for $600 brand new so that leaves $1100 just for installation, tune and CAI. is this too much or is it about right coz it seems expensive? its been quoted by one of teh tuning shops from the forums but I won't say which one as I think they're overcharging. you tell me as I'm inexperienced in this area. Anyway its going in on saturday to another place to get the centre muffler removed and maybe a bigger dump pipe installed. Is this the best way to go to get a better, more aggressive sound from my exhaust without having to spend over $1000 on a full exhaust system? thanks guys.
  11. well after 2 days of satlling the guy called me and said it wasn't the computer after all, it was the "throttle control" shutting the car down, whatever that means. Anyway too sus for me so I told him that I wouldn't buy it after all. Man this is the second xr6 turbo that I've gone to buy and something has gone wrong. sigh..... seems like I've been searching forever. SO I'm still looking for a T if anyone has one for sale around 20-25000 in the Sydney area pm me and I'll get back to you.
  12. thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the quick responses. I've been looking for over a month now and like I said, this car is quite clean and has a whole heap of extras not to mention ther low kms. Well I think I'm gonna get it checked out by an nrma approved vehicle inspector sometime this week, he'll be able to tell me if anything is wrong with it. Grrr I've been looking for so long and I'm dying for an xr6 T already. Oh well I'm sure whats meant to be will be. Oh and yes I am staying clear from the 5 speed manuals as I plan to mod my xr6 T when I get it and know the autos are a bit tougher. Thanks again guys, I'll keep you posted on what happens with this car.
  13. howdy all, I'm a new member on this forum and just thought I'd say hello and ask for some advice. Well after over a month of looking I've finally found the xr6 T that I've been looking for. I've found a late 03 xr6 turbo with just over 50,000kms and a whole bunch of extra's, including a haltech computer, and a claimed 230 or so RWKW. Agreed price is around $23000. I saw the car yesterday and its quite clean inside and out, problem is that when I went to see it the guy said that the haltech computer needs retuning coz he hasn't been driving the car regularly enough, so when I test drove it we kept it at a slow smooth pace without giving it too much oompf coz he said it would conk out and die. He said he's taking it to his mechanic tomorrow to get it re-tuned for me and we agreed that I'll test drive the car later this week and if all goes well I've agreed to buy it. I just wanted to know, could this issue of the haltech needing retuning be a serious problem that he's not telling me about or is it common that they need retuning every now and again? Also, should I be worrying about the auto gearbox at all with that kind of power? I've heard they can take that kind of power with no problems but just wanna make sure. Thanks a lot guys, I look forward to being a member of this forum and building up my car as many of you on this forum have.
