  2. Latest upgrade - custom catch can! Super happy with it. Made by AT Performance https://atperformance.com.au/ here in Brisbane. It's 3L capacity (CAMS spec) internally baffled with an AN6 drain and replaceable filter. Was 3D scanned, laser cut, perfect tig welds. If anyone is interested, get in touch with Adam, he's a true professional. So much better than the standard catch can that bolts up behind the drivers side strut tower, or the Empire one.

  6. My daughter turned 18 and we bought her what she wanted, we’ll closest to what she wanted as that was the car like dad’s one apparently lol (Which was my VF R8 Clubsport) but on P’s these days you can’t drive V8’s and turbo’s so it was the next best thing I suppose 2017 VF SV6 Black edition, Pretty decent bus for an 18 year old but a fairly safe one too. Should meet the criteria for “Cool” stuff bought

  7. 3hrs of meticulous work later, the cams are repaired and the journals in the head along with the cam caps are nearly there. Just a few more trial fits and adjustments then both cams will be spinning freely. Very time consuming job by hand and important to get right, but you do what you gotta do when you don't have a line hone at home. Got the block cleaned and painted earlier and finished the crank too.

  8. So I’ve wanted a running buddy and unfortunately our bulldog is already on the wrong side of the life expectancy for a dog of her breed, not that she runs anywhere anyway hahaha... After much convincing, and he’s still not convinced LOL, j@ finally agreed to drive me out to a farm yesterday and get this little gem. I am fully aware how insane border collies are in regards to needing physical and mental stimulation which is why I chose her. great running buddy and a good family companion and super smart. She’s already doing super well with toilet training, whines when she needs to go, and we started with come, sit, down and paw today and she’s got it sorted. She’s also learnt (in only 3 meal times) she needs to sit before she will get her dinner. Very clever for 8 weeks old! We’ve decided to call her Fly ❤️.

  9. Hi all, it's been a while.. I couldn't get the VN ready in time for Rockynats, so I put some time in to the old girl and got her mobile again. As I had to pull the IRS to replace the outer diff support bushes, I decided to finally assemble the Try Trac that has been sitting in the shed for the past 4 years. While I was at it, I put a new set of Dana gears, so that I didn't have to cannibalise the centre that was being removed. Having missed all previous Rocky Nats due to work, I decided that I was not going to miss another. I have a great time, met many wonderful people and checked out some really cool rides. I didn't take any pics of the car, but I found some on the Nat page that I have shared below. I have also included a current pic of the bay. It has changed somewhat and looks a lot neater. The car was running really crappy, which is why I haven't really been interested in it. My tuna (Joke) installed the latest firmware update and utilised the new manifold pressure predication vs fuel table, car now runs like factory, no more hunting at idle, or stalling. For the first time in a while, I can honestly say that I really enjoy driving the car again. I have also started to make some carbon parts again, although it has been somewhat of a learning curve. I am currently toying with a new rocker garnish to suit the FG rocker cover (1st attempt failed due to air leak in the bagging, so I laid up a new one in the mould tonight) and will soon start on a modified version of the radiator sight cover. I will also have to find some time to remove the dash, as the dreaded mixer shaft failure has finally eventuated. FML Until next time... 🍺

  10. Slight update, not that I'm planning anything right now. Fully disassembled the head, it's all good, just needs valves and valve guides. Fully disassembled the bottom end and results are mostly good. Good news is all the bearings look great, there's some pressure marks on a couple of them but that is normal when you have it cranked up. The oil film has stayed intact on all of them and there is almost no wear so happy days. The crank looks as good as it ever has so yerp. Pistons all look good except number 5. The second ring has a small amount broken off it and has deposited itself onto the ring land. Again not a big deal cos I can file the sh*t off the piston and it'll be sorted. I have some spare rings there so if I use the pistons again I'll just chuck the spare ring in it. I haven't measured them but they had minimal work since last time so should be ok still. The small ends are all still moving fine so all good there. The block looks the same as last time so not much to report there. All in all pretty good except the ring issue. I'll open the gaps up a bit more as I did have it up over 40psi a few times. It'll be fixed one day boys

  11. The ute, along with many other things, have been completely neglected the last 12 months. Decided to finally do 'a little fix up' to my first home. Had been fixing bits and pieces around, under & behind the house over the years, but I bumped the send button this time. Within the span of 2 weeks, plan went from a cheap, simple bathroom Re-do & replace the kitchen cabinets. - To ripping half my house out, moving walls and an entire interior fix up. Done basically everything myself except for the tiling. Still the last 10% to do; finish flooring, splashbacks, kitchen pannels & shelving, laundry bifold doors ect. But family member needed secure housing so I limiter bashed the last month to get it habitable for them. Can plod along with the rest whenever. Also included the entirety of my architectural drawing (singular) to show just how organised I am. Smash first - plan later! Sent from my SM-G781B using Tapatalk

  12. The ticking is the injectors, that is the sound that doesn't go away when it warms up. Myself and a mate have 2200cc injectors and they are noisy as fark. The top end clattering noise is the valve train and that noise usually doesn't go away completely. If your cam phasers are worn they will make noise. They can be taken apart and milled or sanded flat to give them a good seal again. The noise you hear on start up that is a fair tapping/clapping noise is piston slap and that will quieten down when it warms up. Most forged pistons will have a 4 thou piston to bore clearance and that makes them noisy as fark as they rock back and forth in the bore. We run an offset wrist pin (#wristies) to counteract the rocking motion but it's still there. You can reduce the clearance at the machine shop to make them quieter but you run the risk of scuffing the pistons and bores when the car gets a hiding. You can use a coating to reduce clearance and that works pretty good. Even reducing it to 3.5 thou makes the engine much quieter. A noisy engine is just part of the process when you start changing parts and using different materials for those parts. Keep an ear on your engines lads and don't stress unless something changes significantly. Final bit of advice that needs to be followed, do not floor it with a built motor until it's fully warmed up. It'll wear it out a lot quicker if you do, there's reasons but that can be for a different novel

  13. This is the other territory I did a built motor and final assembly for recently. Initially tuned to about 550awkw, with more to come after fuel system upgrades. I'll run it on the dyno for the final tune at the same time as mine, so it will be an interesting comparison.

  14. Engine is ready to go in the car now. Re used my valve springs, head studs and oil pump. New guides and tensioner, head gasket. Drilled and tapped a spare na sump for the oil return.

  15. Rods, pistons and rings assembled, fitted and torqued up. Next steps will be fitting the girdle and windage tray then onto the oil pump etc. Ok pics here, don't mind the crap on the deck of the block, it's mainly just sticky tape jizz. It'll get a final clean when the head is ready to fit. Also looks like there is a decent amount of deck than can be removed for next time...

  16. When your engine detonates and the porcelain breaks off a spark plug, you're in for a bad day. One valve in particular copped it and thankfully only 2 intake and 2 exhaust valves got bent from the engine failure. Aside from that progress is being made.

  17. Pulled my finger out today and the motor came with it. Pistons are slightly worn, rods are good, rod bearing were in the process of galling but didn't hurt the crank, main bearings had some sh*t go through them and didn't hurt the crank much, crank needs a polish but won't need to be ground, ideally go oversize on the block but a piston skirt coating might be enough to handle some more honing. So yerp just need to decide whether to upgrade the entire rotating assembly for more hecticness or just coat the skirts, hone the block and call it a day. Got farken lucky with the big ends, a few more seconds of run time would have spun the bearings and possibly overheated the rods and wrecked the crank. Also oil pump says no... Anyhow enough of that sh*t, here's pics...

  18. Brilliant looking power generation @Tom Tucker, Great build and a all round package. The built engine is where it all gets to shine and we ( the stock bottom end fellas ) know this. I’ve just selected a new G40-900 Vband in/out in 1.06 configuration for a customer Build who’s after something extremely specific on a SBE BF turbo. I believe the G40 is really going to fit the bill for the “Built” engine folks in the 1150 spec as you’ve mentioned too Your G35 is seriously hard to go past too though and that response is second to none ! Here is the G40-900 (left) in comparison with one of my Go-To GTX G2 3582’s (right) @Puffwagon We’re just warming up the ProMod88 More updates later on

  19. Been a minute, transmission is continuing to hold up well but has had limited abuse. I'm ready to pull the trigger just can't decide on who to go with. Some minor house keeping has taken place replacing the high pressure power steering line. I changed the main o ring a few times but it was the internal o ring on the fitting which had given up. Unfortunately I have noticed a crack in one of the spokes of the xr8 rim. With the way the roads have been in Sydney lately, I haven't been driving the car much in fear of the rim exploding. Disappointing that old mate hid this from me when selling. Ive found a guy who is confident to repair it just waiting for the right time to get the tyres off, repaired and new tyres fitted. I'm also trying to hunt down decent priced 18 inch rims the clear brembos but not having much luck. Next up was getting the battery to the boot as finally the 50mm2 cable rocked up fairly tidy install with p clamps and cable ties for back up. The car cranks a little stronger now which is also welcome. Antz performance turbo side intake went in too. Not sure if I'm set of the massive dose but when cruising around its fine.

  20. Speaking of Subaru's.... Have an 07 Impreza as my daily since the XR6 is consigned to the odd weekend run. Just did an upper engine clean on it also. Like working on these things - have done all the usual maintenance tasks such as timing belt kit, water pump, plugs, cam cover gasket, all fluids etc. Was my sons car till he wanted a manual. So he now has a 09 RX and a box of bits ready to be installed. Looks like I have a busy weekend ahead....

  22. Hi All, Well after an accident in late November totaled the previous G6ET I had, I found another one which I managed to pickup as an early Christmas present the Saturday before Christmas weekend. The previous owner has done many mods to it, most of which I was looking at doing anyway, such as the fuel system upgrades, exhaust. Below is a YouTube video the previous owner posted in the Failbook ad: Some pics of the car: The Mods so far: As this is my new daily and due to working over the Christmas/New Years break and the proverbial hitting the fan each week so far this year, I've not had the time to really do much to it except a full service and coolant flush plus having the mechanic reattach the front bar on the two sides when I parked up the Sunday after I got it and not realizing how low the front is, pulling the front bar off a little and hearing a god almighty cracking sound when I reversed out later, which obviously had me swearing at my own stupidity. The only cons with it so far, is the battery is in the wheel well, so I need to organize moving that to the drivers side in the boot. It's too low at the front for me, in fact I cannot even get my head in to see anything at the front, I do know the stone guard is shredded and has pulled away from the front bar in sections, it's also in some areas split so that bits are hanging down and catching on even the smaller stripped rubber stoppers in car parks. The front tyers have shredded the inner guards. The firs thing I am doing is getting the battery relocated, then 5 new wheels and tyres, I'm going 18's as I've had 20's and 19's on the previous Falcon but as other family members will use my car and they curb rashed the 20's and 19's but not the 18's - even after having them for 2 years - I'll stick with 18's, plus I noticed a hell of a lot less road noise with 18's. I get brake shudder, the front pads were replaced a year and 10,000K's ago according to the seller, but I don't know, as he did like to take it to the drags, if it wasn't allowed to cool down properly and heat warped something or the discs just need shimming, so I will get that looked at too. Other than that, it has none of the usual land barge floatiness thanks to the sway bars etc. and I quite like the sound from the turbo, the young fella that is my offsider has a 2015 WRX non ST-I, which the rest of the team and myself always tease him about being slow -you know the usual Aussie stirring - plus everyone loves the flake in the Ego paint. Once I hit the 195,000 mark - currently at 186,600 - it's off to Rob for oil pump gears, backing plate and timing chain, then a freshen of the 98 tune and ZF service. Then after Rob tells me what I should do for running it on e85, I'll put the e85 tune in and have Rob freshen that up too. I've put this in the 300KW club because until I see a 400KW+ sheet, I know it at least feels much stronger than the 270KW at the wheels I had in the old car - which had ID1000's and a stage 1 tune.

  23. All done. Had a few issues to sort at the time/later: -One of the rocker cover bolts was snapped. I didn't have time to sort it and presumably has been a long time like that, so just put some gasket goo under it to make sure it sealed and went again. Have ordered a replacement ready for when the cover is ever off again but will have to extract the broken bit obviously. -As above the breather elbow split coming off so replacement stuff coming -One cam solenoid connector broke on the way out and another on the way in. No big deal but will repin new ones next time I do spark plugs - Dopey me didn't check the seal was seated properly. At least I thought to check the next morning. Had caught up the back so had to undo it all and reseal. Plus wait 24 hours again for the silicone to dry at the top of the timing cover. All running and leak free. I changed my intake manifold gasket too as it was soaked in oil. Fark doing that job again in a hurry.

  25. Managed to get out today briefly. Warmer temps in Canberra made a huge difference to traction. Managed to get 2nd and 3rd gear down, on the 3/4 setting (around 20psi, maybe 550kw or so). She's pretty quick when it hooks up haha. The G35-900 is pretty epic for a street driven manual. No waiting for boost, and still on like a light switch at lower load in 2nd gear, which is what makes it fun in my opinion.

  30. Massive shout out to @JETURBO. Helped me work through some driveability issues with my tune, and then the thread about TMAP sensors came up, prompting me to change out whatever dog sh*t 4 bar sensor I had for an Omni 5 bar. Night and day difference. Can confirm how critical low down resolution is. Edging ever closer to making the car what I want. A super tidy cruiser that can scare the crap out of you when needed, but is comfortable, functional and reliable.

  31. Been up in Queensland for 2 weeks. Then back to Victoria, oh my... Water meth tank has been cut and folded. Just out now with the welder to tack it all up, then I can do a test fit. Wanted to install an oil pressure sensor. 50,000 fittings later... Used the Honeywell 0-150psi sensor from EFI Hardware Pulled the intake manifold today and mocked up the Aquamist kit for a stealth install. Few happy pics if it help someone out in the future. Spaced the nozzle back about 20mm from the inside of the flange Using the callipers as a height gauge to get the vertical height the same across all 6 ports. Goes without saying, use a centre punch once y and z lines are marked. Roughed in. I'll cover the hose with a black braid or more likely some silicone heat sleeving for the final install. Stealthish Still have good access

  32. For the last day's adventures, other than the "snow" stuff (I'll edit a clip together to show it all from my in-car footage and YLD127's front-facing camera footage). Just after we "escaped" from the what looked like blizzard conditions haha. Lined up for a shot or two. I was too nerve jangled to get a pic like Gary's earlier in this thread. We backtracked to Omeo and the headed home via Bairnsdale instead. We said goodbye to YLD127 and got a dry-aged T-Bone each from the specials board. Delicious for a steak but fairly low quality for a dry-aged steak (medium-rare for me, of course) Then it was 3 and a half hours back to my house and the "made it home" post above. Thanks to @EvilDaifu, @Rab, @YLD127 & @El Andrew for an epic cruise as always through the beautiful snowy mountains more media and stories to come, I'm sure.

  36. So yeah drove it a bit and the fuel is miles out. Spent 45 minutes in the driveway dialling it in, got it sorted out until 2500rpm. It doesn't sound like much but there are different cam angles to deal with so it takes a while. An upside is I still have a good tune for locked vct so can use that for the next build... Also had to change the starting parameters slightly to account for the different speed density model. It starts great when hot, we'll see how it goes in the morning. Another plus to the vct is now I can stall it up for a launch. It didn't have enough power to get past 2000rpm before and now it pushes through the brake by 2500. I'll post a video whenever I get around to it, should be pretty mental lol.

  39. WMMFG.... I feel like I’ve come further in the last 18 months in my career than in the last ten years. I officially have not one, but our organisations two largest building projects to manage as well as the others I am running with.... but today I got some cool news... I have been asked to consult as a permanent panel member for a newly formed committee within the organisation which is now responsible for the long term strategy for community major infrastructure needs. A position which I was specifically requested to take on due to my expertise and to which I am the only one in the committee not in an executive or senior leadership position. It’s a pretty big deal for my type of role within my sector and an opportunity which isn’t often forwarded, so feeling very lucky but also proud I’ve been recognised as being valuable in that position. 🥰

Rim Size - F 20x9 R 20x10 3. Tyres/rubber - F 245/35/20 R 275/30/20, Michelin PilotSport 4S 4. Did you lip your guards - "lipping" is same as "rolling", so yes on front and back. 5. Offset - F +30 R +40 6. Price/where - cheap enough, 2nd hand 7. Will Brembo's fit - Yes, they fit on a car with brembo's with a small spacer on the rear to clear the rear caliper. 8. Did u roll the guards - YES on rear, YES and PUMPED/PULLED on front. 9. Is your car lowered - yes, F KFFL-57SL R KFRL-68SSL 10. Does it scrub - NO on back, YES on front: front does a tiny bit on full suspension travel turning left on drivers side & vice-versa... plenty of scrubbing on high suspension travel turning left on passenger side & vice-versa but that's pretty rare and mostly avoidable unless you're drifting and the guard is pumped/pulled enough so that even when these scrubs happen it doesn't damage anything as it's just a flat-ish tyre hitting a flat-ish guard. 43. Steak seems to make a frequent appearance here, so figured I'd add mine from the weekend. Hefty 1.1kg ribeye steak. Bought on Thursday, salted and left to dry in the fridge over night. Removed the salt, coated it in a little bit of oil to let the seasoning stick, added pepper and seasoning. Vac bagged it with some garlic, didn't have any other aromatics at the time, like rosemary and thyme. Chucked it in the sous vide for 4 hours @ 54°C. Threw it on the bbq which had been getting nice and hot for a while, cooked for 5ish minutes to get a mintttttt crust/char on it. Cut and served. Had this along with a bbq'ed chicken, lamb, and a variety of salads with some mates. Was a good time 👌 By far the best steak I've ever made, it was absolutely amazing. Better view of the important photos

  46. Ok, new boost controller resulted in better boost control, but it wasn't able to hold 25psi up top. So, it tapped out around 610rwkw. Super happy hitting over 600, with response goals met (I think, haven't driven it yet). I still won't get the car back for around a week, so dyno sheet will be uploaded then.

  47. More updates. Rear housing swapped to 1.21. A few boost leaks fixed around the plazmaclamps. Apparently it hasn't lost much down low at all. It hits 19psi by 3000rpm. And then hits 610rwkw. 25psi bleeding down to 21psi up top. New boost control solenoid going in to see if it can hold boost up higher. I know I owe graphs, will get them when I pick the car up.

  48. Not personal related ... but work related... I have been given a project in a gorgeous beach side neighbourhood where I am redeveloping the historic site. New community facilities including RSL club, library and community centre integrating with an existing historic building. Pretty excited for it... have worked with the architects on the design for some components for the last 9 months and still working through the biggest buildings, hopefully kicking off out of the ground in a few months time. Really cool to essentially ‘own’ a project and put your stamp on it that will hopefully be a community location for the next 100+ years
