  2. So yerp pulled the 6r80 down today. Nothing looks too rooted in it, not that I'm a seasoned trans builder or anything. All of the steels are in good condition and all of the shafts/gears etc look and feel alright too. I'll get to measuring later in the week to confirm stuff. The car that the trans came out of had a torque converter failure and had put some metal into the trans which is why I only paid $50 for it. I pulled the trans pump apart to have a look, as that will be where the metal starts it's journey into the trans. Sure enough the small inner gear has some damage and the pump cover has some damage too. It's not so farked that it wouldn't work at all but I'd rather do things more proplyer so will address it. I reckon I'll swap out the stator shaft from the 6r80 into one of the zf pumps and use that, otherwise I can get a 6r80 pump for about $500, or there might be something else I can do with parts/gear swapping etc. The bushes in it need replacing so I'll go for a bronze bush kit, along with a couple of other bits to recon the zf valve body, replace needle roller bearings as one had fallen apart, and whatever else needs replacing apart from seals, as they will all get done anyway. So yeh that's about it really. Will drop off the input shaft and converter on Wednesday and see how we go from there. I was thinking about cryo treating the output shaft too just for more peace of mind. I'm leaning toward keeping the stock converter now as it has a better lockup than a single disc gm converter but I'll see what the trans guy reckons, as it might not be up to the power level I'm going to throw at it. Haha one part of me wants to just buy a built trans but I'll have a crack at it myself first and if I fark it up, I'll reevaluate then.

  3. Latest upgrade - custom catch can! Super happy with it. Made by AT Performance https://atperformance.com.au/ here in Brisbane. It's 3L capacity (CAMS spec) internally baffled with an AN6 drain and replaceable filter. Was 3D scanned, laser cut, perfect tig welds. If anyone is interested, get in touch with Adam, he's a true professional. So much better than the standard catch can that bolts up behind the drivers side strut tower, or the Empire one.

  9. My daughter turned 18 and we bought her what she wanted, we’ll closest to what she wanted as that was the car like dad’s one apparently lol (Which was my VF R8 Clubsport) but on P’s these days you can’t drive V8’s and turbo’s so it was the next best thing I suppose 2017 VF SV6 Black edition, Pretty decent bus for an 18 year old but a fairly safe one too. Should meet the criteria for “Cool” stuff bought

  10. 3hrs of meticulous work later, the cams are repaired and the journals in the head along with the cam caps are nearly there. Just a few more trial fits and adjustments then both cams will be spinning freely. Very time consuming job by hand and important to get right, but you do what you gotta do when you don't have a line hone at home. Got the block cleaned and painted earlier and finished the crank too.

  11. So I’ve wanted a running buddy and unfortunately our bulldog is already on the wrong side of the life expectancy for a dog of her breed, not that she runs anywhere anyway hahaha... After much convincing, and he’s still not convinced LOL, j@ finally agreed to drive me out to a farm yesterday and get this little gem. I am fully aware how insane border collies are in regards to needing physical and mental stimulation which is why I chose her. great running buddy and a good family companion and super smart. She’s already doing super well with toilet training, whines when she needs to go, and we started with come, sit, down and paw today and she’s got it sorted. She’s also learnt (in only 3 meal times) she needs to sit before she will get her dinner. Very clever for 8 weeks old! We’ve decided to call her Fly ❤️.

  12. So yeah the money wasting continues... After spending nearly 10k between the trans and the water meth kit, the car lasted about 3 weeks before the oil pump exploded it's *beep* all through the timing cover and sump. This round of stuff I've ordered to get it up and running again lists thusly; Horse Power Junkie High Volume Barra Billet Oil Pump Atomic Heavy Duty Posi-Stop Barra DOHC Timing Chain Tensioner Atomic Barra Heavy Duty Timing Chain Atomic (Barra BA-FGX) Atomic billet steel crankshaft sprocket Atomic Solid Checking Lifter - Ford DOHC 6 Cylinder, DOHC V8 and V10 DOHC Modular Engine Dyno-Mite Performance BA-FGX Barra Fire Ring Gasket Kit in 39 thou Atomic Roller Rocker Set The billet crank is gonna have to wait cos I ain't made of money. Also gonna order bearings once the motor is apart cos I might not even need them, but also it might have farked a crank pin in which case I'll be using a ten under crank I have here. Will drop the head off to fix the cam journal and a quick skim and also pick up some strong ass acid to clean the cams. Gonna re-ring it while it's apart and close the second ring gap a teeny tiny bit from 28 down to 26 thou, leave the top at 22. Should help a little with blow by....maybe?! Anyway enough waffle, more updates will come eventually.

  13. Hey mate, thanks for sharing your research with us. Sounds like this green top is pretty impressive. What are your plans for the car, and what is your budget? I've heard 10s for $2k is pretty easy if you know what you're doing.

  15. Hi all, it's been a while.. I couldn't get the VN ready in time for Rockynats, so I put some time in to the old girl and got her mobile again. As I had to pull the IRS to replace the outer diff support bushes, I decided to finally assemble the Try Trac that has been sitting in the shed for the past 4 years. While I was at it, I put a new set of Dana gears, so that I didn't have to cannibalise the centre that was being removed. Having missed all previous Rocky Nats due to work, I decided that I was not going to miss another. I have a great time, met many wonderful people and checked out some really cool rides. I didn't take any pics of the car, but I found some on the Nat page that I have shared below. I have also included a current pic of the bay. It has changed somewhat and looks a lot neater. The car was running really crappy, which is why I haven't really been interested in it. My tuna (Joke) installed the latest firmware update and utilised the new manifold pressure predication vs fuel table, car now runs like factory, no more hunting at idle, or stalling. For the first time in a while, I can honestly say that I really enjoy driving the car again. I have also started to make some carbon parts again, although it has been somewhat of a learning curve. I am currently toying with a new rocker garnish to suit the FG rocker cover (1st attempt failed due to air leak in the bagging, so I laid up a new one in the mould tonight) and will soon start on a modified version of the radiator sight cover. I will also have to find some time to remove the dash, as the dreaded mixer shaft failure has finally eventuated. FML Until next time... 🍺

  16. Slight update, not that I'm planning anything right now. Fully disassembled the head, it's all good, just needs valves and valve guides. Fully disassembled the bottom end and results are mostly good. Good news is all the bearings look great, there's some pressure marks on a couple of them but that is normal when you have it cranked up. The oil film has stayed intact on all of them and there is almost no wear so happy days. The crank looks as good as it ever has so yerp. Pistons all look good except number 5. The second ring has a small amount broken off it and has deposited itself onto the ring land. Again not a big deal cos I can file the sh*t off the piston and it'll be sorted. I have some spare rings there so if I use the pistons again I'll just chuck the spare ring in it. I haven't measured them but they had minimal work since last time so should be ok still. The small ends are all still moving fine so all good there. The block looks the same as last time so not much to report there. All in all pretty good except the ring issue. I'll open the gaps up a bit more as I did have it up over 40psi a few times. It'll be fixed one day boys

  17. The ute, along with many other things, have been completely neglected the last 12 months. Decided to finally do 'a little fix up' to my first home. Had been fixing bits and pieces around, under & behind the house over the years, but I bumped the send button this time. Within the span of 2 weeks, plan went from a cheap, simple bathroom Re-do & replace the kitchen cabinets. - To ripping half my house out, moving walls and an entire interior fix up. Done basically everything myself except for the tiling. Still the last 10% to do; finish flooring, splashbacks, kitchen pannels & shelving, laundry bifold doors ect. But family member needed secure housing so I limiter bashed the last month to get it habitable for them. Can plod along with the rest whenever. Also included the entirety of my architectural drawing (singular) to show just how organised I am. Smash first - plan later! Sent from my SM-G781B using Tapatalk

  18. The ticking is the injectors, that is the sound that doesn't go away when it warms up. Myself and a mate have 2200cc injectors and they are noisy as fark. The top end clattering noise is the valve train and that noise usually doesn't go away completely. If your cam phasers are worn they will make noise. They can be taken apart and milled or sanded flat to give them a good seal again. The noise you hear on start up that is a fair tapping/clapping noise is piston slap and that will quieten down when it warms up. Most forged pistons will have a 4 thou piston to bore clearance and that makes them noisy as fark as they rock back and forth in the bore. We run an offset wrist pin (#wristies) to counteract the rocking motion but it's still there. You can reduce the clearance at the machine shop to make them quieter but you run the risk of scuffing the pistons and bores when the car gets a hiding. You can use a coating to reduce clearance and that works pretty good. Even reducing it to 3.5 thou makes the engine much quieter. A noisy engine is just part of the process when you start changing parts and using different materials for those parts. Keep an ear on your engines lads and don't stress unless something changes significantly. Final bit of advice that needs to be followed, do not floor it with a built motor until it's fully warmed up. It'll wear it out a lot quicker if you do, there's reasons but that can be for a different novel

  19. This is the other territory I did a built motor and final assembly for recently. Initially tuned to about 550awkw, with more to come after fuel system upgrades. I'll run it on the dyno for the final tune at the same time as mine, so it will be an interesting comparison.

  20. Engine is ready to go in the car now. Re used my valve springs, head studs and oil pump. New guides and tensioner, head gasket. Drilled and tapped a spare na sump for the oil return.

  21. Rods, pistons and rings assembled, fitted and torqued up. Next steps will be fitting the girdle and windage tray then onto the oil pump etc. Ok pics here, don't mind the crap on the deck of the block, it's mainly just sticky tape jizz. It'll get a final clean when the head is ready to fit. Also looks like there is a decent amount of deck than can be removed for next time...

  22. When your engine detonates and the porcelain breaks off a spark plug, you're in for a bad day. One valve in particular copped it and thankfully only 2 intake and 2 exhaust valves got bent from the engine failure. Aside from that progress is being made.

  23. Pulled my finger out today and the motor came with it. Pistons are slightly worn, rods are good, rod bearing were in the process of galling but didn't hurt the crank, main bearings had some sh*t go through them and didn't hurt the crank much, crank needs a polish but won't need to be ground, ideally go oversize on the block but a piston skirt coating might be enough to handle some more honing. So yerp just need to decide whether to upgrade the entire rotating assembly for more hecticness or just coat the skirts, hone the block and call it a day. Got farken lucky with the big ends, a few more seconds of run time would have spun the bearings and possibly overheated the rods and wrecked the crank. Also oil pump says no... Anyhow enough of that sh*t, here's pics...

  24. Brilliant looking power generation @Tom Tucker, Great build and a all round package. The built engine is where it all gets to shine and we ( the stock bottom end fellas ) know this. I’ve just selected a new G40-900 Vband in/out in 1.06 configuration for a customer Build who’s after something extremely specific on a SBE BF turbo. I believe the G40 is really going to fit the bill for the “Built” engine folks in the 1150 spec as you’ve mentioned too Your G35 is seriously hard to go past too though and that response is second to none ! Here is the G40-900 (left) in comparison with one of my Go-To GTX G2 3582’s (right) @Puffwagon We’re just warming up the ProMod88 More updates later on

  25. Been a minute, transmission is continuing to hold up well but has had limited abuse. I'm ready to pull the trigger just can't decide on who to go with. Some minor house keeping has taken place replacing the high pressure power steering line. I changed the main o ring a few times but it was the internal o ring on the fitting which had given up. Unfortunately I have noticed a crack in one of the spokes of the xr8 rim. With the way the roads have been in Sydney lately, I haven't been driving the car much in fear of the rim exploding. Disappointing that old mate hid this from me when selling. Ive found a guy who is confident to repair it just waiting for the right time to get the tyres off, repaired and new tyres fitted. I'm also trying to hunt down decent priced 18 inch rims the clear brembos but not having much luck. Next up was getting the battery to the boot as finally the 50mm2 cable rocked up fairly tidy install with p clamps and cable ties for back up. The car cranks a little stronger now which is also welcome. Antz performance turbo side intake went in too. Not sure if I'm set of the massive dose but when cruising around its fine.

  26. Speaking of Subaru's.... Have an 07 Impreza as my daily since the XR6 is consigned to the odd weekend run. Just did an upper engine clean on it also. Like working on these things - have done all the usual maintenance tasks such as timing belt kit, water pump, plugs, cam cover gasket, all fluids etc. Was my sons car till he wanted a manual. So he now has a 09 RX and a box of bits ready to be installed. Looks like I have a busy weekend ahead....

  28. Alrighty all, here's the update: So, I finally got around to fixing the engine. As I mentioned earlier, I slapped a new head on, all the bells and bigger whistles put into it, blah, blah, blah. Now, on Sunday just been (9th of Jan 2022), I pulled the rocker cover off to see if I had somehow placed the cams in the wrong way, I didn't, next thing I checked was the timing, I rotated the engine over 34 times to get it bang on. On inspection of the crank sprocket, the mark on the chain was one tooth out, so it had skipped. The second thing I noticed was the intake cam was in the correct position at 12 o'clock and the exhaust cam was at the 11 o'clock position. So this explains everything, fixed it and guess what, the car runs like it did prior to the inept mechanic who put three valves springs upside down ( I text him once a month asking, "How?" HAHA). So, the timing retarding issue has finally been fixed and sounds like the former glory. Next problem, when the thermo fans come on the car would either switch off or run real rough not like in the lame ghost cam way - worse. The Haltec was throwing all kinds of codes mainly cruise control codes. Couldn't work out why. All by accident, I placed my hand on my Haltec and f**k me, I could cook bacon and eggs on it. Found the setting on the laptop and it was telling me the Haltec was at 80 degrees. Got an air blower straight onto it and it cooled down rather quickly. After four hours of trying to get the car stated it, just wouldn't. Continued drinking and had a good night. The next day on the phone to Haltec and well, the legends they are, are the legends the are. Fixed everything via remote login. The Haltec is being sent back, they're do their magic and once I get the Haltec back then bammmmm straight onto the dyno for a tune. Once again, thank you for everyones input over the time/ length of this post. I took all comments in and it reassured me, everything I was doing was correct and believe it or not, it pointed me in the right direction when I took your comment on board. A long and costly process, but never-the-less, great outcome. Thought I would update and hope this post and comment/s helps those that are ever chasing a similar issue/ problem.

  29. The master suite has also had a bit of a spruce since I posted last... finally the curtains and shutters arrived and some new styling elements. All that’s left is a small end table next to the mirror (on order) and some bedside table styling elements and the master is basically done 🥰 PS: contemplating wall paper behind the bed also 😬

  31. You probably can't see in the photo, but I got the engine bay painted while the engine was out. Looks soooo much better. Got the IC-7 hooked up in a temporary location. I have an insert to place it into the dash cluster location, but the wiring for indicators and fuel sender will be a future project. Getting a few km on the drivetrain. Gearbox is loosening up slightly and shift quality improving. The Haltech self learning is improving idle target and drop between gears and fuel trim is getting better every time. Next job is to dump the run in oil (Penrite 15W-40 run-in). I'll run another 500km with a fresh lot of that same oil. It'll get some slightly thicker synthetic oil before it gets back on the dyno, which might quieten it up a little too. The 15W-40 seems to have lower oil pressure than I'd like. Sits at around 40psi cruising at 2000rpm, and gets up to 70psi in the upper rpm. I'd like to see an extra 20psi with a 15W-50 or 20W-60. I think the oil pressure is very similar to when I tried 10W-40 with the stock motor, and it ended up being spot on with 15W-50, so I'm not too concerned. I also have a PRP coil kit to go in. Working away on an FG rocker cover - shaving the bits I don't need, and I need to get some AN10 fittings welded on.

  33. Pulled the finger out cos there's only so many cat videos you can watch. Got the head off and it's better than expected. No valves have hit but the intake cam journals are fairly galled. Edit: the exhaust valves have touched but still look ok...will find out soon enough New theory... Pump body exploded, lost oil pressure, cam galled, timing chain snapped, car said yeah nah bro. Bottom end is looking alright. The usual nicks from broken porcelain but not enough to rebore it. Minor thrust wear but there's still hone marks so happy there. So yerp, get the head fixed, r&r the bottom end for a clean etc and farken send it again! Happy days

  37. The stock ones will be making noise but you have to listen closer. Those Bosch injectors do make a loud clicking and it doesn't have anything to do with how you drive. It seems that the more you mod your car the louder everything gets; rattly pistons, loud exhaust, screamer pipe, screams of terror from the missus and kids

  38. back on 22nd June we picked up this 8 month-old rescue dog, Zeke, an American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Mastiff cross breed. He's an energetic thing and his training (via me watching and using advice from Zak George on YouTube, highly recommended) is coming along nicely here he is the day we picked him up. here he is last night after getting back from my outdoor workout with him along with me, a bit exhausted This is my first pet as an adult and he's a fun loving thing Overly energetic is fine with me, but he does test your patience every now and then with his enthusiasm for life haha.

  39. Update on the sous vide beef cheeks! Letting them dry age for 24hrs wasn't enough time, but not the end of the world. They're getting slow cooked for over 8 hours anyways Seared all the cheeks to get that sweet maillard reaction happening (browning the meat). In the same pan I put in 2 cloves of garlic, 2 onions, 2 carrots, and some sticks of celery all diced. Let those cook for a bit to get some colour into them and then dumped just over a cup of red wine into the pan. I let that cook off for a bit while scraping all the fond off the bottom of the pan. I added some stock to the mix too and let it reduce for a bit. I realised after that I didn't put nearly enough wine and stock into the pan for the amount of cheeks I have. So I'm going to have to make some more once I get home. Basically redoing the whole veggies and wine steps again to double the amount of sauce I have. I vac sealed two cheeks into each bag along with the sauce all evenly spread between the three bags - this is where I realised I didn't have enough sauce mixture. The three bags barely fit into the biggest pot we have atm, kinda stuffed in there like stacked pancakes and the pot is just about filled to the brim with water 🤣🤣 Sous vide is set to 81c for 12 hrs, I'll be home before its finished and I'll probably turn it off before the 12hrs has be completed. The recipes I've found in my research has shown that anything over 9hrs is fine. I.e. min time recommended is 9hrs. Will give another update later tonight or tomorrow on how the dish goes 😋

  40. I do think it’s particularly interesting though that this was your initial take. It aligns with certain reactions I’ve had from people I know. Something I’ve found super interesting is the shift in people’s perceptions of me and their “willingness” to comment on my body (not obviously when I post images as that’s welcoming commentary, but when I’m just going about my day). I am by far treated way better by people in general now I’m thinner. Girls in shops insist on being lovely instead of ignoring me, my hairdresser and lash tech all ask me to have photos done for their socials, constant comments on how nice my outfits are or compliments in general, men treat me far better in general… but… people comment A LOT on my appearance or training/eating habits unsolicitedly. In the last week alone I’ve had three people comment on what I was eating (not enough, complaining I wasn’t eating the garbage lunch they all had, or just about my protein based diet). I’ve been told I’m too thin, I’m getting too muscly and men don’t like that… and the list goes on. I’m eating and fueling my body arguably better than anyone I know currently in terms of macronutrient balance and vitamins and minerals. I lost all my weight naturally by relearning skills around moderation and discipline as well as fixing my negative relationship with food. I’ve got the best cardio vascular performance of my adult life, my muscle percentage is extremely high and my body fat is fairly low (aiming for additional fat loss still but within female health tolerance levels), but people seem to think that not drinking alcohol, eating healthy and watching your intake is absurd and you’re the weird one because you don’t want hungry jacks in the office for lunch with your coworkers and would rather eat your packed lunch or because you order a soda water instead of a beer at the pub after work. I find it so presumptuous that people assume you are modifying your body, in any fashion (body building, tattoos, hair, etc) for the benefit of others or their judgement or to be found attractive. I started this journey with a health focus around my illness and the same motive remains where my illness is my primary motivator for being strong and fit… but… I have grown a love and passion for body building at the same time. My nutrition, training routine, daily habits and supplementation/vitamin routine is all oriented around achieving a body builders physique. I am completely aware this isn’t everyone’s “cup of tea” and that has zero effect on my motivation and goals but others perceive it to be an issue/less attractive/desirable… which made me giggle slightly reading your comment and assumption that “losing breast fats” was a negative when it was actually intentional on my behalf. it’s made me realise during the last few months just how ill informed people are around the sport of body building and also how cavalier people can be around commenting or assuming when they perceive it to be not offensive because the person isn’t “fat” or they’re fit/muscly so they must be fine with others commenting on their body/lifestyle and it’s up for public discussion. TLDR- when you’re skinny the world treats you way better, but everyone feels they have licence to tell you what you should be doing/eating and judges you for having a health/physique focus.

  41. Managed to get out today briefly. Warmer temps in Canberra made a huge difference to traction. Managed to get 2nd and 3rd gear down, on the 3/4 setting (around 20psi, maybe 550kw or so). She's pretty quick when it hooks up haha. The G35-900 is pretty epic for a street driven manual. No waiting for boost, and still on like a light switch at lower load in 2nd gear, which is what makes it fun in my opinion.

  43. Big day on the dyno today. We had to chase a few small issues. First was a sensor failure, then a misfire issue. We replaced the sender and installed another new set of plugs and the issues were resolved. We pushed the old girl as hard as we could, but had to pull it up due to the fuel pumps laying over. We ended up with 911 rwhp @ 26 psi. It look like I'll have to install a bigger gate springs and some 523/535 pumps to push it any further. Overall, I'm very happy with the results.

  44. So after almost a 3 year hiatus I'm back with some turbo barra fun. So join me on resisting the urge to not go silly with it. A very stock 08 Turbo Territory Ghia, Picked it with 250000kms and first thing to do is give it a full once over. Had it on the weighbridge and came in at 2.26T but surprisingly spritely. Fresh thermostat in as the bypass had failed and coolant wouldn't go above 80. Flush oil is in and next is a proper service, Zf Service, Transfer case and both Diff Oils. Also probably in need of a good detail. Only issues I've noted as the front end seems to clunk over bumps so I'm assuming I'm due for some fresh upper and lower control arms. Rear bump stops are looking quiet ratty and new ones on the way. But the absolute most annoying thing was on the drive home after buying it, The bonnet scoop liner blew off on the highway and supposedly ford don't supply them anymore. No wreckers seem to have them so that's great. The most I plan on is some injectors and a fuel pump and E85 as there is a servo right near me. I always thought the G6 was a barge but this things on another level. Anyway enjoy some pics

  45. Well... I have had to make a big mental shift from 50kgs/10months worth of calorie restrictions to actually learning to fuel my body... but I think day by day I’m getting there... This is what sitting on my but feeling sorry for myself due to my diagnosis vs weight training 6-7 times a week and football/high intensity cardio 2 times a week looks like ... Freaking out the scales are going up a tad (yes I know why but it’s still scary after focusing on numbers going down for so long). Gaining 2kgs in 2 months but losing a whole clothing size again makes me feel okay about it.... still a bit shift and something my mindset is changing into... fuelling my body instead of feeding it. But onwards and upwards. Footy is amazing also... absolutely loving it and can feel my cardio and fitness getting better every week so fast... also enjoy the game much more than I realised and happen to be half decent at it (transferable skills from basketball I think), so that helps

  46. Ok, run in tune done. 460rwkw on 15psi gate pressure. Sorry, no dyno sheet, it's just a run in to make sure everything is working as it should. Small issue they're working through is idle breaking down when it hits a certain temp. Sounds a lot like the problem another member was having with the cam phasers, and possibly a result of oil pressure related to clearances. We shall see Keen to see what it will make on 25psi+

  47. Let us know how it goes!!! Im keen to get my hands on one of those machines. Well today I got in the cooking mood after working (from home)... Firstly decided to make Baklava but more the Arabic version... Firstly make up a syrup with honey, sugar, lime juice and vanilla. Then make the baklava filling, I stuffed it with pistachios and almonds, then make then and bake them Then made some kourabiethes (Greek almond biscuits)... the dots are almond. Then for dinner made a roast chicken with mash and mushroom gravy.

  48. Being the ever tightening tight arse that I am, I only ordered one wastegate spring just now. It's a 12psi outer spring, so that gives me a 7psi inner, 10psi middle and 12psi outer, for a total of 29psi. Will I try and run double the spring pressure for 58psi worth of boosty goodness? Probably not. Will I eventually run it at 100% wgdc just cos? Probably yes. What does that mean? All of the boost, all of the time and at least 23 in the mid. I'm getting it couriered to work so should have the farken farker sooner rather than later.
