Aftermarket Fuel Filters...what I Did!

Had a few questions about e85 fuel filters so here is some pics of what I did and a list of parts below.

  • -6 AN Speedflow 200 series e85 compatible hose (200-06);
  • -6 AN Speedflow 200 series hose ends (x4) (201-06-D);
  • 5/16th male quick connect to -6 male flare (x2) (716-06-05);
  • Magnaflow Fuel Filter - MP-7008 (25micron Stainless) or MP-7007 (10micron paper) - requires 2 x -10An to -6 AN fittings (920-06-10); or
  • Fuelab 81831 - 6 micron micro-fibreglass element (apparently e85 compatible).

Other option is to cut the stock line to length and double flare it (or braze on even?). If flaring you will need 2 x Russell Adapter Fittings (640600) - Male Invert Flare To Female Adapter -6AN To 1/2 in. -20 as well as two flare nuts. You can see in one of the last pics I have slipped on the Russell fitting to see how it looks compared to the speed flow hose ends.

Aeromotive and a few other brands make a 40micron stainless element filter, however I believe something a round 10 micron should be used to prevent nasties violating your injectors. Even the 25micron Magnaflow unit is pushing the limit of friendship which is why I converted to the Fuelab micro-fibreglass element.

Best thing is changing filters is a piece of cake now. The stock set-up drove me up the wall and the flare nuts weren't looking to good after several filter changes.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Senore Toads.

I can't actually remember the total cost, did this back in 2010. I was running an e21 mix at the time and there wasn't much feedback as to how the paper filter elements were holding up so I was being cautious. I'd say it's around $350 to $400 using quality gear.

And doing it all yourself, the feeling of accomplishment and knowing you did it all properly - no shortcuts some shops might do, would be priceless :):spoton:

I'm doing the same at the moment. Went with aeromotive filter with 10micron paper filter. Have 7 meters of speedflow 200series teflon braided hose and all 200 series fittings to replace feed and return lines from surge tank to fuel tank. Will get some pics up when I get around to doing it. Still waiting for some stuff to turn up from summit. Also brought an aeromotive fuel pump speed controller for the 2 044's so they are not flat out at idle and also a MSD tach controller to get the siginal for pump controller. Might be a bit over board but am planning for motor upgrade and pushing 500+rwks on E85.

Very nice!!! Yeah get some pics up, more the merrier!

Jetnos, I have an old $hitbox BA lol so the FG maybe a little different. I'll get the measurements though.

The 25micron stainless is cleanable, the other elements are disposable!
