Im wanting to buy the GTX3484RS but stuck between the choice of a 1.01 rear or 1.21 theres no inbetween.

Not to harp on about it guys but it seems that he hasn't bought the turbo yet.

An in between would be the gen2 gtx3582r and cut and shut a vband where the t3 flange is if a vband is mandatory. You could use a 1.06 housing.

I also had a look and Tial make a 1.03 housing to fit the gt/gtx35 turbos. Lol I dunno if it would fit the rs though :)

Easy decision, on a stock motor its irrelevant.

What exhaust, what size?

Which cooler?

Type of pluming, size etc?

These are your issues not the rear hosing!

Just buy a GTX3582 G2 with the smaller housing and your good for 450rwkw on 98 or E85 providing you have the supporting mods!

Your stang will fry tires all day no matter what you buy!

I went yesterday ready to buy the 1.01 84rs and the bloke from shop said he had it on his gtr and was just right on a 2.6ltr said it may be too small. So I left without a turbo.

4" exhaust

Plazmaman plenum

Plazmaman intercooler

6 boost manifold

So between 1.06 and 1.01..... .05 doesn't seem much ?

I guess @arronm has a point with his previous comment. If you do decide to turn it up then you'll want the bigger housing.

Running this turbo at 450rwkw will leave some in reserve and imho with an external gate, the smaller housing will be ok for that power level.

If you're not turning it up then the gen2 gtx3582r might be a better turbo for you because it is still an 850hp turbo and has heaps more housing options.

Depending on how you control boost and also depending on the ignition and cam tuning you can bring a turbo on slower or make the car more drivable.

Going by the garrett graphs the 3582r 1.06 flows better then the 3584rs 1.01

That's just the turbine housing flow, it's not what the turbo can do.

The compressor is bigger on the rs and with a big enough gate it will keep the back pressure in check and still make all the power.

So paying more for the 84rs but not really a better turbo the the 82r.

Maybe true at 450rwkw but not at higher power levels.

With your drivetrain loss a gen2 gtx3582r will be perfect at 450rwkw on e85 imho.

There is a lot to choosing a turbo and it depends mainly on what you want it to do.

Understand that makes sense.

So really the 84rs 1.01 could potentially still make more power uptop on less boost compared to the 82r 1.06?

Im running a progate lite 50mm wastegate.

Yes.  But with greater back pressure.

I guarantee when you start ,the 3584 with 1.21 turbo will just make big power

If you go the 3584, with 1.21 it will go 500 easy.

Big turbo makes big power easy.

And as you said , you are going to build a motor in the future.

We all start with a power goal but that quickly gets boring and we just want more.

It gets addictive.

So the best advice I can give is go big on all mods.  Then extra power comes easy.  1300cc injectors too.
