I’ve searched around and all sources say it should be an anticlockwise motion and it may be held with some sort of adhesive. At this stage I’ve gone to the extent of taking the gearsfick out a putting it in a vice to no avail. Is there a trick to it or should I keep trying as I am?? A dose of the oven does the job in a pinch. It's a normal thread, just strongly glued on.

Less effort, better result.
