NZ Cruise 2018. Sept, South Island

Recommended Posts

Am putting it up to see if there's any interest.

5-7 days - hiring the best (most fun) cars available and doing a tour.

6th-13th September

Anyone from Oz half keen on visiting NZ?

Anyone from NZ half keen on meeting us?

I've done the North Island before (hell, I was married to a chick from there for a while), but ever since I did year 8 geography I've had and urge to visit Milford Sound.

Anyone tempted to take the trip with me?

Flight are cheap - car hire will be cheap (shared/on rotation/short straw/shot gun/want to drive)

(enough interest I'm more than happy to ship a/my/any car over to put it into rotation)

do you realise how expensive it is to ship any car from/to NZ?

I just wouldn't be able to afford any of that, except to just jump into a car with somebody else...

as much as I'd love to drive around all of NZ, it's not something I can actually do :(

Am talking about hire cars.

3 people per car max.

If 3 come then 1 car.

If 5 then 2 cars.

7 people we get 3 cars

etc

We'll look at the most fun cars we can hire - and put them in rotation.

If more look at coming I'll look at shipping one of our cars over (my cost) for us to put into rotation,

I tend to throw up if I'm not driving on the sort of roads we like :roflmbo:

I prolly will have to pass as I'm expecting my next major customer device to be in development that time frame so all hands on deck at work ...

But as you know - I luv those roads on South Island

Spent a couple of weeks or so doing the North Island a few years ago (was based in Ngaruawahia, near Hamilton and toured from there).

Went down as far as Rotorua and up to the north to the Bay of Islands

Bay of Islands was definitely work the overnight trip.

Was definitely like a stretched out version of Tassie ;)

Sorry slow reply from me.  I'd have to wait to closer to the time to sort out time off to align with this.

But yea could be interesting to meet some of you.

I'm based in the Christchurch area myself.

Guess it's down to whether you have interest from a group to go.

just returned home from NZ.

drove from wellington to Auckland. beautiful scenery. twisty roads made the back seat passengers sick so I wouldnt want to be in the back as a passenger hahah

the weather was mostly ok, but frustrating as sh*t its sunny, then cloudy, then raining, then sunny then cloudy, then raining again. goes like this for most days all day.

and be warned, the locals or tourists just pull out in front of you while on any road, usually the 100 k zones, making you brake hard and almost clean them up. I lost count how many times they did this, they just dont give a sh*t and dont accelerate fast to get up to speed.

and they dont advertise there speed cameras. everywhere and in all the 50kay zones. its 50 almost everywhere!!!!. painful.

all fixed, but you dont see them, they mix them in with light poles and other signs.

only 1-2 came up on the loaner GPS, which was not updated as one of the motorways I used wasnt on there.

oh and the amount of sh*tty road works going on there is a joke. every few kays theres a patch of unattended road works they half assed started and left littered with stones/pot holes. so glad I got a rental hahahah.
