Hi everyone just picked up a 2003 ute couple days ago, got it cheap I love the car but she has a problem, I know its a long shot without anyone looking at it but thought id try my luck to see if anyone has any ideas as to what it may be.

So basically the car starts breaking down really bad (spluttering) at approx 3200rpm, possibly at the full boost point, it runs good in usual driving conditions and when it starts to load up it also fine but as soon as it hits that point runs like sh*t.

As far as I know it has one of them eBay turbos on it made in taiwan around $1200 mark + turbo smart bov other than that stock I think.

Any ideas as to where to start looking or what it may be would be very much appreciated, also what is the best place to take it on the Gold Coast. I know Hi torque put out a lot of good cars but never dealt with them.

Thanks in advance fellas

I have no idea whats been done to it mate, it came with a boost gauge apparently never been installed, when I was cleaning it I found a blue rubber hose hanging down from under the glove box and thought maybe it had something to do with a boost gauge or something but fiik !!

If it was the coils would it runs fine at lower rpms?

do you have an xcal 3 or xcal 4 in the car somewhere?

Mybe it was tuned with HP Tuners.

May be best to contact previous owner and find out if it was ever tuned.

If it was never tuned, then there is your problem.....

:P

I was suggesting to go to a tuna to get it looked at first.

It could be that it has been tuned already and you won't need to tune it.

Only the tuna could tell you how much the fish is gonna cost..

That's what I would do in this situation.

Take it to a reputable tuner and get them to diagnose and after discussing price, fix the issue.

A tuner will know a hell of a lot more about this issue than a regular mechanic.
