Sixman is on the money. It seems that it would be easier to just get a whole gear lever and knob replacement.

here is why:

Clip is facing forward for gear lever surrounding.

See if you can spot it in the pic below

See if you can spot it now.

That is the only thing holding the boot to the lever.

The silver bit below is the gear knob. There is an indent in the gear knob where thezip tie holds the boot to the lever.

I think that might be the glue, you can sort of see what they poured down there.

I am going to have to get a whole lever and knob assembly from hurst by the looks of it.

This is a Hurst setup I sourced through Mal Wood. Was 3 or 4 years ago, but his price was competetive compared to importing myself.

Far out dude, I only noticed all your gadgets now.

Are those two of the hp tuners gauges that you have setup on your dash?

So just a bit of an update. I have been dealing with Chris from core shifters and he has been a very patient man, especially with the time difference between AUS and the USA.

I have had to take pics and measure a few things.

They have the equivalent for the FG

https://core-shifters.com/collections/sticks-for-challenger

Any of them could probably work (except the HardDrive kits)

If any of you out there are looking for short shifters for your FG manual, please look at these first. might save you all the heart ache I have been through.

I should have just got one of these instead of the aeroflow short shifter.

Don't get me wrong, the aeroflow short shifter has been good. I love it heaps, but the OEM gear knob is doing my head in.

Since the Aeroflow uses the oem lever, it was the best option for me at the time.

Little did I know that the OEM gfear knob would start to fall apart like this with wear and tear.

So I am deciding between these two options.

https://core-shifters.com/collections/sticks-for-challenger/products/hurst-chrome-stick-knob-for-2009-15-dodge-challenger-6-speed-w-stock-shifter

I am inclinded to get the kit as per the above url link.

This is the other option I was looking at, but it shortens the lever height and so the know is lower than OEM position.

I don't know if I want that. it uses the OEM boot. Rubber grommit is provided.

an adapter/spacer is also required to connect the lever to the tranny.

I am waiting for info on that.

Gauges are aeroforce. Although I mostly use analogue sensors rather than obd2 data. The gauge holder is attached to the steering column.

If your after a short shifter that you can attach any stick to go Mal Wood.

Your making this look difficult, dudes on here worked it all out years ago :)

I ain't going to argue with you there. I know that Mal wood have awesome products, but at the time, I couldn't afford to go down that path.

I went down the aeroflow short shifter path as I paid less than 3/4 of the RRP, back then.

I was not expecting the stock standard OEM leather on the gear knob to decay that fast and yes it has already been replaced under warranty already.

In regards to mal wods, short shifter, I am assuming you are referring to this:

http://malwoodauto.com.au/product/ultimate-street-short-throw-to-suit-ford-fg/

That is similar to what the Aerflow short shifter is.

You mention that others have worked it out years ago and I believe you.

I did do a search for "gear knob" and found a lot of BA and BF threads.

I wasn't sure if the right info was provided. Keep in mind that I am no mechanic and hence why I am putting all this info in here.

Thank you all for your help as it has helped out.

For the sake of making sure that I got the right Item Chris from core shifters got me to take measurements. I am glad he did.

The bolts for the OEM lever are M8 with a 1.25 pitch.

I had ordered the wrong item and he has refunded that back. it is all sorted now.

If you'll remember, Marco, I had the Mal Wood short shifter in my FG Turbo and we both preferred the Aeroflow one in yours.

Arronm, whats it like to drive with those long sticks?

mazda74 yeah, the stock gear knob is terrible - does not last long at all.

Good to hear you have it sorted. Put some pics up of the new stick when you put it in.

Roger that. Do you just need the gear knob or the lever too?

I completely forgot about that and you are right, it is ringing a bell now and I did like the shift in the aeroflow shifter.
