I think you will find getting rid of the yellows and sh*t warm colours will open it up more.If that's the look you're going for then keep cool colours through out. Make sure the grey you pick is cool and blue based not brown based. Use white where possible.Don't necessarily use grey on every wall. Eg, our whole house is grey except the whole back open plan which is just going to have. Feature dark wall behind the tv, but white opens a big space even more as long as u use art to break it up.
