Thought I'd have a crack at installing Led's in my G6ET door handles which also act as puddle lights.

Here's a go at a bit of a write up.

First you will need to purchase a few things.

- 6 x (2 spare) 5mm LED

- 4 x resistors (get a few spares as well)

- 12m of dual core wire

- LED housing (again a couple spare)

First I removed the door barrel from driver's side.

Open driver door and pop the little black cap that sits at same height as handle.

Once this is done, it will expose an Allen key inside. Back Allan key out and it will release door barrel.

Unclip the cover from door barrel and cover with masking tape. This will protect it as well as helping with marking out.

I measured up 10mm from base that sits against car & 8mm in from edge that sits against handle.

I drilled a 7.5mm hole so the chrome LED holder will thread into cover.

Repeat for all 4 covers.

Next was the door barrel. A dremel will come in handy here.

But once modified, it should look like this:

I then cut 3x 1m and 1x 1.2m (driver's door) length of wire to run inside each door and soldered the LED to each one.

Fit LED to each cover again; a dremel will be handy to create space for wiring.

Feed the wire into door and Install handle piece back on car.

Next to hook into lights inside, so when you unlock car they come on.

The front doors are very easy to connect to the courtesy light in doors.

IMPORTANT YOU MUST INSTALL A RESISTOR OR YOU WILL BLOW THE LED.

Place resistor between LED and the point where connecting to door light. It will work on either one of the two wires.

I forgot on one door and learnt the hard way.

The back doors I ran from footwell lights.

I ran a wire about 3.5m in length either side.

Remove all plastics.

I put resistors in here.

Next step to get them into doors.

Pull the rubber cover off the connector that sits between the door jam and disconnect connection.

I drilled through the centre of both sides of the connector and passed wire through.

Once through, get a long cable tie, tape it to the wire and feed through rubber conduit into door.

Once wire is into door, if you haven't put a resistor in line, make sure you do before making final connect.

LED's cost $2.45each item code ZDO190

Resistors 45cents for a pack of 8

Item code RRO563

wire $1.20 per m WH3057

All purchased from Jaycar electronics.

The 5mm Chrome LED bezel holders can be found in hobby shops or on eBay.
