Mt Buller Back Eildon Cruise 2013

Please check with this first post for updates

DATE: Sunday 7 April as BOM says forecast is good for our schedule now.

MEET POINT:

Wallan BP off Hume Freeway near Wallan - 8:30am departure (so best be there earlier 8am or so for a coffee and brekky if needed)

SnmG8QY.jpg

Depart Wallan BP to make it up Mt Buller through some glorious twisties and tight switch-backs before lunch. Photo opp at the summit (short dirt road to the summit) but as not much open this time of year - back down to Mansfield for lunch. After possibly a counter meal at the pub on the corner - off through the newly sealed back road to Eildon which has been known to induce motion-sickness (and that's just watching the vids from previous cruises :roflmbo: ) Finish up with a photo opp atop Lake Eildon dam and then you fellas can make your way home either via Hume Freeway or Melba Highway or Black Spur.

All on sealed roads except small stretch of gravel road in Mt Buller Alpine Resort to the summit car park.
There are no toll roads or resort entry fees on the planned route of the actual cruise.
Actual cruise route from Wallan to Eildon via Mt Buller is about 420km (so suggested to fill up at Mansfield at lunch-time).

Please be aware that with this route there is a risk of motion sickness for passengers.

BP Ultimate 98 RON at Wallan BP meet point - suggest leaving with a full tank from meet point. Caltex Vortex 98 RON available at Mansfield. BP Ultimate 98 RON pump is out of order in Mansfield.

RULES:

1. Obey all laws whilst on the cruise; this means no speeding, no overtaking over double lines (no matter how safe you think it may be), etc...

2. There is a designated cruise leader who will lead the way and set the correct pace for all cruise members.

3. Use the Buddy system - always make sure you can see the car behind you. This will give people behind you an indication on where to turn to make sure nobody gets lost.

4. CB Radios - if you don't have one, follow the maps and directions given out. It is highly recommended to have CB as it enhances the enjoyment of the cruise being able to hear about road hazards and join in on the social chatter.

5. Please turn up to the meeting points with a sufficient fuel in your tank and enough time before the departure time.

6. Onus is on the owner/driver to ensure their vehicle is safe to drive on public roads and meets State road traffic authority laws.

7. Please ensure you have a contingency plan if you have a breakdown or unnecessarily delayed. e.g. Roadside Assistance or a mate in another car who is willing to stay with you if necessary.

8. By attending this cruise you agree not to hold FordXR6Turbo.com, it's Administrators, Moderators, Cruise Controllers, or Owner responsible / liable for any damage and / or grief sustained (simply; you are responsible for your own actions).

The new car I bought in 2011? lol

Last time we did that run I had sh*tty stock FG brakes. Would be interesting how the FPV ones compare.

I reckon the manual would be the more useful change.

Tempted Gaz pending whatever else is going on

Test drove a F6 2009 that was advertised on car sales.com and those stompers sure stopped. Didn't really get a good go at seeing how they performed as they heated up though - was just a short test drive.

Having said that - also found the gear changes pretty abrupt in the ZF Auto 6 speed of that car. Didn't remember it being like that - thought it was much smoother. And that wasn't Performance Mode either.

Put you under the Tempted
