That is the hardest bit, getting them to get the first one done.

patience and persistence is all I can say.

Best I can say is to do it over a weekend. No yelling at them either.

take their nappy off for the whole weekend. Only put underpants on them.

Take them to the toilet every 30 mins and leave them on there for 5 mins and no more.

Every so often you show them how it is done.

that is the best that I can advise. Everyone does it differently. I hve heard of parents bribing them with chocalate or sweets, what ever their favourite is.

Toilet training my son,

Him-"Dad I don't want to wear Nappies"

ME- "Use the toilet and you don't have too"

Him- "Okay"

One or two little accidents later he was toilet trained.

like I said, everyone has different Methods. I think Luke is a very lucky man.

Thank and I am sure he has an awesome relationship with his son, which shows.

It took us 3 weekends to get our son toilet trained. Our daughter was a similar situation to what Luke went through.

Fingers crossed Camo.  Good luck.

As you say, lucky Luke, pun intended.

I probably should've added (It's yet to be confirmed - pediatrician appointment is for early next month) but all feedback so far points to our son being in the autism spectrum

He turned 3 last November but his communication is very limited and and it gets so frustrating (for him but us as well) when even the wife and I have no clue what he's trying to say, or when he can't even attempt it so it just turns into a tantrum

Not that it has a massive impact on whether he twists one off when sitting on the toilet or not, but it's basically impossible to reason with him about the most basic of things, let alone discuss the proper place for dirty nuggets, been trying to train him on and off for nearly 6 months now.

We love the kid to death, he's usually good natured and have awesome times with him, but very rarely do either reasoning, arguing, bribing or even threatening, work with anything, at anytime.

If he gets something into his head then that's it.

Eg. he all of a sudden has a thing that the two big date palms out the front are out to get him and will go ballistic when we go near them or try to get him to.

Anyway. Not what I came here to stay but it sort of feels good to vent.

He was the same when trying to get him to stay in his own bed all night. He wasn't even 3 yet and I said to him one day that him waking up and then waking up mum and dad was making us very tired and it was going to be worse when the baby arrived.

"okay Dad"

Has slept through since. Normal child rearing tactics do not work on this child.

woke up, was busting for a piss and stepped in dog crap on my way to the toilet.

good start to the day.

My kids leave the back door open regularly and the chickens come in, eat the cat food and sh*t in the floor.

I trod in poo last night.

Besides prickles, that is why I wear thongs everywhere.

Please don't cave into that BS.

Our son was the same thing. He was a late learner. We couldn't understand anything he said until early last year. He is turning 5 in July.

We took him to a speech pathologist to help him and he improved heaps after the 5th or 6th session.

Our son threw tantrums as well as he couldn't express himself.

It is very frustrating on both sides.

Our daughter had started to talk at 2 and a half with simple words. at three she was talking enough to express what she wanted and needed.

Not with our son. They are different and learn at different speeds. don't rush it either.

You spend 2 years teaching them to walk and talk.

You then spend the next 16-18 years trying to get them to sit down and STFU!!!!!!

;)

Seriously! I can't even wipe my arse in peace! :furious:
