A little update, bad luck and a temporary hold up.

I found out that when we put the gearbox back onto the motor we managed to squash the trans pump gear because we didn't get the alignment right, missed it by 1/4". Me being the backyardy engine conversion rookie, finished joining the engine and gearbox together by using the bolts to pull it all tight, costly mistake and lesson learned. So gearbox is back out and getting sorted. While the box is out, its getting serviced and an AU pump gear put in, was told that these are a stronger gear compared to the standard item, and also getting an external oil cooler for it.

As for the rear end I talked to some of our local diff specialists and I'm going along the path of putting in a AU XR8 LSD 4 pinion hemisphere in, was able to get that one for free. I have been told that this is stronger than the normal turbo diffs, and also that the standard wagon axles and tail shaft will handle the power I'm after. Will see what happens. I have been warned though that the aluminum tail shafts have been known to fail when your hitting the rev cut or speed cut limiters, should be ok though because there is no way my wife will drive like that. The alternative to this is a XR8/XR6T ute diff and drive shaft, but tail shaft needs to be modified to fit.

Once the wagon is back I will put some pics up. Plan is then to drive it around for a month or two to see if any other gremlins come out. Then it will go back in for some final go fast bits.

Nice, wanted to go with the ute xr8/xr6t rear but got the AU XR8 hemisphere for free so giving it a go. Exhaust has ended up being a custom job, 3 inch to the rear after the gutted cat from the turbo, funny thing they told me was the xr8 was too small exhaust for the turbo, looks like a good sales pitch on me, hook line and sinker, lol. Main concern was drone, this is the baby mobile, so it has to act and sound nice for the wife lol. Did you switch pumps in fuel system, still have the xr6t pump but was thinking of swapping it for the upgraded walbro pump from herrords, the one with the bigger swirl pot. My phoon is going in for 1000cc injectors, billet wheel, and .70 comp housing (running on e85), so was going to put the my old nizpro drilled injectors from the phoon into the wagon and probably get the rapid v3.0 for the wagon. Mainly aiming to get 280-300rwkw all day everyday in all conditions.

What tailshaft are you using, is it the xr8 gear with diff? Starting to get a little worried about the aluminum tail shaft, even though ive been told it should be up to it.

Yeah you are spot on with the drone I had to replace the center muffler drone real bad. I am still using the standard wagon fuel pump seems to do the job just fine. I have a walbro and 42lb injectors sitting here ready to go in when I get around to it.

Yeah still using the standard wagon tailshaft it is doing the job fine.

Car is up and running, massive difference compared to the original xt donk, just fitted a big mouth ss induction kit that came off the wreck I bought. Definately notice the difference with the ss kit for those interested in these kits. Car is currently running around on good AFRs with custom 3" exhaust and no tune. Next step will be the v3 rapid kit, process west surge tank with 44, nizpro injectors, and custom tune. Hoping to hit 300rwkw all day, everyday. This has been the main goal of the project. Car is getting diff sorted next week to a LSD, still trying to work out what ratio to go with for the diff? Will post some picks shortly of current setup. Exhaust worked outs nicely, very little drone on start up then its gone. Very stealth. Thinking of swapping the 3.5" split dump from my phoon to the wagon and upgrading the phoon to a 4". Main concern at moment is overboost on the wagon motor once all the other gear is on, I really dont want this car to go over 300rwkw, possibly thinking of getting the overboost valve as a safety. Not keen on rebuiliding this motor. Open to any suggestions to hit the power I want but be safe with no overboost. Im in canberra, so car will be running on very cold dense winter nights, overboost heaven as well as extremely hot dry summers.

Forgot to add, car posted 182rwkw at present. Disappointed at this but im putting it down to the fact the ss kit wasnt fitted so the airbox was open and sucking from the hot engine bay during a dyno run and not cool fresh air, diff gear was 3.23, and also the car was still running on 91 octane from original motor, surprisingly it didn't ping, go the knock sensors. Will get another baseline done before the next lot of mods. Can only get better from now.

Another update.

Car has just had 3.45 and LSD put in diff, very good upgrade compared to the open 3.23.

Hopefully this weekend will be installing the rapid V3 kit, will post some pics up while I'm doing this. Chris from Rapid has been a top bloke putting up with all my questions. WIll get another dyno run done as a baseline after the V3 kit but before tune, just curious to see the difference the kit makes on a standard stock tune.

As for the aluminium tailshaft, the fact that its only going to 300rwkw and its an auto, the tailshaft should be fine.

Will probably run it with this for another few weeks, then car will go in for injectors, valve springs, and tune.

Hopefully will have some more pics up next week.
