Often people think about why should I donate to a website when I reap the benefits of a community for free? Why should I spend a dollar or so when it looks like the website has advertiser's and covers the cost?

Unfortunately this is not always the case. Yes Advertiser's do assist in covering things such as the hosting, however there are always additional costs behind the scenes in particular to do with costs such as the following:

• Additional Bandwidth Costs
• Maintenance charges on the software and addons for support and version upgrades.
• Costs to upgrade the software / forum.
• Consultant costs when things go wrong - (Prime example is the recent upgrade that caused things such as the classifieds to fail and for many members to get upset).
• Tuning and maintenance costs in order to keep the site running at its peak all the time.
• Costs for new and updated software
• Costs for server upgrades both hardware and software / security (to prevent hacking like we had earlier last year)
• Cost for support
• Graphic design costs when implementing changes & many more not listed.

Donating is simple. All you need to do is visit - Make a Donation and follow the prompts.

Making a Donation really does help and we are grateful for every cent that comes in.

Some recent donations have gone towards the following:

• Consultants fees for repairing the classifieds system.
• Upgrade costs for applications to work with the latest version of Invision Board including Donation Tracker, Advertising System, Classifieds etc.
• Tutorials modifications (to be installed shortly)

• Consultants charges for installing modifications and repairing list of items not working since upgrade.

- Your Upload Limit is increased to 25mb per member
- You have no limits on the frequency of searching on the forum
- Ability to create your own Photo Gallery within the Gallery System with a 20mb limit

Gold Donating Member - Minimum Donation $50.

- A Donating Member Tag which is displayed next to your user ID on the forum

- Your Upload Limit is increased to 50mb per member
- You have no limits on the frequency of searching on the forum
- Ability to create your own Photo Gallery within the Gallery System with a 50mb limit.
- Ability to Add your vehicle to the Garage System including photos and any modifications
- Ability to Create your own Blog and give members a detailed running build of your vehicle or whatever you feel like!

How to Donate?

If you would like to donate to Ford XR6 Turbo.com, just follow these simple steps.

1.) Go to the main Donate page located here
2.) Next select or enter the amount you wish to donate, remember if you are entering an amount, follow the standard 2 decimal place system. For Example: If you want to donate $20 dollars, then enter 20.00
3.) Select in the dropdown whether you would like to use Paypal (with a Credit Card or if you have a Paypal account) or if you would like to do a Bank Transfer (Offline Payment).
4.) You'll now see a new page, depending on the board administrator you may have the option to make your name and/or amount anonymous, if you do see check boxes for both of these and would like you your name and/or amount anonymous, then check the appropriate box.
5.) When you are ready to proceed, simply click the Proceed to Payment button.
6.) You'll now be redirected to the payment process. A payment process is a secure 3rd party to handle all transactions between you and Ford XR6 Turbo.com. It is one of the most secure methods of transferring money on the internet.

I dont mind donating its all good, the tight asses that are on this forum sinse 06 and still havent donated gives me the shiiits, make them donate or GTFO lol. what about organising cheaper car insurrance for donating members. that will make money. I heard some other forum does this (calais turbo) but im not 100% shore.

That sounds like a great idea. I know some of our sponsors are giving discounts of 10% for donating members, but the insurance thing is something we can look further into. Sounds good.

Wow I honestly thought there would be far more donating members, I for one didn't take long to realise the wealth of information provided here, I joined up back in 09 because I was thinking of getting an XR6T however didn't so hadn't really come back but in the last few weeks now that I know I'm set on a G6ET I have no issues dropping a few bucks to keep the forums ticking along

assuming 18000 members ( not all are active despite a clean out) this equates to ~ a 4% conversion in DMs.

This does not include the many 100s of "guests" that visit this site each and every week to soak up the combined knowledge provided for over 8 years for the Xr6T and it's derivatives.

Just to speculate it would be interesting to plot members/guests savings V donations ?

If people have questions , in the majority the answer is on here somewhere or will usually be answered.

Whether it's car issues, what components to buy, cruises, fellowship etc etc , this is pretty much
a single engine site and boasts a pretty damned good traffic flow considering.Wasn't that long ago a
12s pass was legendry. We have come a long way and it is all here!

I will stick with it is not a site but a community, and the fact I have met what will be life long mates
( not friends)because of this joint. My 40th birthday was a good example

A lot of people have spent lots of money, sponsors and customers alike to keep everyone up to date
with the latest info , new products and services.

with the (relatively) handfull of realy clued up guys who know alot about working with these beasts, take the the site away, and you take the access to their combined knowledge away, and you are left with 'my mate said do this and this....", and alot of blown boat anchors in peoples driveways.....

Yeah... I can't believe the amount of guys who come on here and rob the place for advice but won't pay a cent... Cheap *beep*...

There's also those guys who rob tuners for hours of knowledge then walk away when the find somewhere "cheaper" to do the right... Can cost them in the long run though...

Then there's the awesome blokes like SPIRO who do the development and the donations!!!

To go not for profit requires a huge amount of compliance and is not worth it.
It is the same hassel going to being a "car club".
We cannot stop guests as they convert into members who then hopefully convert into donating members.
I personally woud like to restrict access more to the technical areas for DM's only, but then it can also backfire by people going to other sites that do not have this restriction.
It is a difficult balance of costs vs donations and it is a fine line. None of the Mods or Owners get anything financial from this site, we do it for the love of it and hope that our members help in supporting the financial side of running this site.
I doubt many people have been made rich from a car forum, but I am sure many have gone broke.

18,000 members and only 800 donating members is very dissapointing, its making me upset just reading this. without this site I would not have met Mick from pitlane, who has been good to me and jd customs for fitting my custome garrett cooler, alex- plazmaman who supplied me the 800 hp intercooler kit one of the first kits that came out. (my first upgrade back in 06). list goes on etc.

come on guys its only 20 bux minimum to donate, n your helping this forum stay online for another yr! Icers idea could help, running the forum. but doesn't change the fact we still need more members donating, more members donating can try organize cheaper car insurance which I mentioned earlier ( will definitely getting more people to donate) and maybe we can organize more events, hire out a racetrack (sandown, once a yr) to use.
or make a petition to open sandown fridays from 5pm to 10pm once a month. it will definitely keep hoon off the street and help the community and the car scene. will cost heaps but that's long way away if it happends.

A track day for dm's.. That would have made me donate on day 1!!! but I have enjoyed my time on here. I'd like to know whats stopping people donating a few bucks? if you find yourself on here every week and have found useful information that may have saved you a heap of coin then why not give a little back to those that have helped you? It will make you feel better.

How about restricting some of the site to non dm's? or have more dm only things???????? at the moment there really isn't that much incentive and since so many people are tightarses then maybe someone needs to make it better value. I'm keen on the track idea or something similar. how about a gift for those who donate more? A hat, a hoodie?? f*ck even a keyring is better than nothing

Big thanks to everyone that has kicked in over the last week or so, for those that haven't lol

But as it's been said before if you kick in even 20 here and there it all helps, and when you consider how much money the forum saves you in the long run in group buys, avoiding dodgy tuners and workshops, buying the right gear, cheap second hand gear, getting the right info the first time round, be able to see results on other peoples cars and get feedback before you spend big etc.. etc.. I think it's a worthwhile investment.

Guys we have been informed by Invisionboard that several apps are out of date and require upgrades, unfortunately we do not have the funds to do this at the moment and they believe that these may be causing the issues with the forum at the moment, that all of us are experiencing. Any help is appreciated in trying to get these up to date and for things to be working again properly.. thanks again!

I think the site should be free to browse, guests and NOT DM shouldnt be allowed to have questions answered and get their stuff fixed for free, or be allowed to participate in group buys etc... well something along those lines.
Theres needs to be something enticing to make the cheapos chip in.

Easiest way is to do an offline donation using our donation system, grab our bank details and head on down to the CBA and deposit it into our account, or if you have a chequebook we can take a cheque too and just send it to our PO BOX.
