Hey Steve, you know the guy that was trying to steal your wheels, well he stole your passenger side mirror

Much easier to steal than to put back :)

Cheers Dan. I need to catch up with Frostyboy (Brad) from the All Ford Day cruise a couple months ago, I think he's got some sweet footage I'll be interested in. Still yet to see the brakes with sun on them while the wheels are in motion.

Mel took fantastic shots though, I give her the thumbs up for all future cruises hahaha

Minor update...during routine servicing a little while ago I managed to strip the thread in the head on the exhaust bolt closest to the firewall. I think it was because the car was cold and I normally tighten the bolts when it's still warm. This worried me as it's things like that which add up over time and turn a nice car into a sh¡tter.

Pic taken at Phil/Boganspeed's joint where I took it all the way out for the first time to have a gander at the object of my sorrow

Well there's a part of the head I'm not supposed to be able to see...awesome.

An amusing side effect of this was a harsher sounding exhaust note which I enjoyed while I had the chance. Sort of like a tiny external gate hehehe.

Around this time I started to get a MAAAAAAAAAD rattle/vibration when cold if left idling in D. Had a peek for exhaust rubbing but couldn't see anything without getting the heat shields off again (probably not much I can do anyway). Also thought it could be a problem with the new engine mounts, or maybe transmission mounts - they are still stock as far as I know.

Knowing I'm booked for entering Racewars in April this year, I decided to take the car in to Galvsport in Osborne Park who are the scrutineers for the event, and spoken highly of on another mixed car forum I frequent. They can fix up the issues as well as provide a pre inspection inspection... I do keep in mind the car is over a quarter million km old now and I don't want to find out I have a major problem with only a couple of weeks before the big event!

Called them up and arranged to drop in last Wednesday morning 9am. Had a chat to Josh down there about the issues, who basically said "No problem, I'll just get this Ferrari off the hoist and we'll take a look".

In my mind I replied "F*CK YEAH" but in reality I think I just said "Cool". Who can argue with that!

They have some seriously tough and exotic cars come through that shop for builds or even general maintenance (they are generally Nissan GTR and other race spec car specialists but do serve daily drives and the odd taxi based hoon mobile too).

Got the call back that the rattle was actually the downstream 02 sensor rubbing against the flange on the ZF sump. I've actually known about this for a long while but it seemed to be OK until now. Josh suggested the new engine mounts may have changed the way the engine moves, possibly acting as a pivot point and moving the exhaust just that bit too far. Anyway, I was 99% sure that this sensor is turned off in the custom tune or you get an engine error light on the dash. Got in touch with XFT who confirmed this, so I was able to give the go ahead to basically just whack a plain bolt in there instead. Should have done it ages ago but I couldn't get the sensor out myself when under the car and always forgot to mention it when it was in for work.

So that's the rattle gone. On to the more serious stripped thread. They found that the bolt was actually shorter than the others in the head and consequently not grabbing as much thread as it could. There was enough left in the head that they were able to clean it up and put a longer bolt in and torque it up to spec. Josh said he was happy to save me a few pennies on that one. I'd guess the wrong bolt was put in either by Ford or when the valve springs and timing chain work was done...

The rest of the car passed in his opinion, except for rear tyres (need to be over 50% tread and I'm loving killing these ATR Sport 2's as fast as I can), and they found minor play in the front lower ball joints, which aren't something I can easily change out at home without "clever hammering" so I think I'll get it done by a pro in the next couple months.

Collected the car on the Thursday arvo and visited my step sister and her nan, parked it up on the driveway. While I talked sh*t and enjoyed ocean views it got sprayed with the neighbour's f*cking bore water or whatever repulsive insect vomit they use on gardens in their suburb. No pics, but it looked like a leopard. On the drive home I stopped in at a servo and the squeegee didn't even get the pattern off the glass...grrr.

Cleaned it up today with my normal wash product. Needed a bit of a thorough drying to really get rid of the rest of it but you can't see anything now thank God. Took a bunch of pics in celebration. Still hot for those brakes :turboboink:

Tested cold start up...listened for rattles

Nothing.

Took it for a fang around the hills roads I live in...sounds normal under boost again too.

We don't need no stinking undertrays!

Steve I misunderstood your txt about the longer bolt fixing the issue. I thought you ment the timing case bolt. Good stuff mate!

Also in regards to your text tonight....yes.

Front bars are the same colour when you wear silver paint off hahaha.

And yeah I'd like a stone tray. Need to fix up splits in my old one....priority low.

Plenty of stone chips on my bonnet too but it's to be expected. I demand a lot of the car regularly. Taking off paint just makes me go faster :)
