Heya Deebs,

Originally it had SSL in the front with reset rears (SSL height so I actually raised it to Super Lows. My CV is fine but I don't give it a super hard time, with that I mean I still have fun and wear out the rear tyres, but I don't load the driveline up to ridiculous levels. When you start doing that things will simply break. A mate of mine used to rev his car at 4K and side his foot sideways off the clutch, and then wondered why the axles keep breaking :dontknow:

Having said that, I do acknowledge the CV appears to be the weakpoint for the ZF equipped Utes.

Thanks for that mate, good to hear yours have held up so far. Out of curiosity how many km's have you done roughly since it was lowered?

Also from what I've read it's not the power that breaks the CV's/Tailshafts it's when the angle is changed the problems arise. Read a few post of guys who were towing or even had a big load in the tub and had it go on them, and their car was stock. But I understand what you mean by not testing out there limits, so to speak.

I bought the ute at 5300 Kms, it was lowered then and raised it to SL height at about the 20K mark. I do a lot of dirtbiking and camping etc, lots of times it has had 2 full size bikes in the back with gear, still going strong so far :surrenderwave:

So right now it has super lows on the front and reset leaves at the back. Done about 10k in that state, and you carry a lot of stuff around in it? Seems the newer utes may have been 'fixed/altered' and a stronger CV put in.

when my ute was new it never tramped, then the tramp started and over time it has gotten worse and worse....not so bad on the street but the track its just crap...I put it down to the shocks and springs being a bit floged out altho its only got 60kks on the clock....so tramp on a newy is pretty crap...mc donald brothers racing make caltracks but $700 also some decent shocks are meant to help that's what they use on the v8 brut utes but there $800 a pair. king springs super lows are also crap cos they have a thinner top leave compared to the standard it twists up easier to causes the tramp...

Ford have underated springs, FG 6T ute load can carry 540Kg as said by Ford (sales guy told me 750kg), my dealer has said I have 500Kg load but my guards rub in driveway at 20000 kms and didn't at 10000 kms (no load change), dealer offered 1 ton shocks (how will this affect ride height) but I asked for reset and extra leaf, sorry we have 1 ton shocks in stock and will do that under warranty but not reset and extra leaf spring. Then was told that to measure ride height dealer will take off canopy, empty ute and see unloaded ride height, yes trying to work through problem but it is my work car. Has anyone had this experiance? Is this a bad dealership, or is Ford correct and a ute rated at 540Kg is shagged within 20000kms carring 500Kg (apparently).

I was told mine is lowered by pedders with reset rear springs and it's starts to axle tramp until I take another stab at the clutch then it's all just smooth wheelspin :)

I just spoke to Mal Wood and they told me it works great on there own XR6T. I will be going ahead with this as soon as I find a workshop to install it.

I have seen the carbon art rear end kit. For that money I could do a top mounted GTX45 Turbo Setup...

Hey Mate,

When is this going in? keen to check it out when your back in town

I don't think its turned up from perth yet, have to get in touch with karl. I'm going to take the ute down the 1/4 and try get a consistent time, install the 4 link, than run it again and compare the results. I decided to go with the koni's on the rear and am getting a set of XYZ's for the front. I'll weigh the ute before and after to see how many kilo's we get rid of aswell

I just spoke to Mal Wood and they told me it works great on there own XR6T. I will be going ahead with this as soon as I find a workshop to install it.

I have seen the carbon art rear end kit. For that money I could do a top mounted GTX45 Turbo Setup...

sure could! I didn't pick it just to stop tramp, the fact that I'll be running full coil overs in the rear will make a huge difference to how the car handles and also plan on tracking it so the adjustability with 4 links is going to help.

Guys I've got the Mal wood tramp rods and it still tramps when breaking traction, eliminates it on some surfaces,so it does work but will not eliminate ALL axle tramp. I've lowered it.....raised it.......fitted the rods...... And still get tramp. Cars running 295 rears with 400+ rwkw and I can't believe it still does it. I will be considering the 4 link rear for sure, I've spent so much on this car and to have it tramp doesn't make it enjoyable at all.

When I look at how much ive spent on the suspension, I think I could have had the 4 link rear installed with change left over.

I think after hearing everybody's thoughts I will just wait it out until I save enough to get the carbon art rear end. Its just not worth wasting anymore money fixing the problem with little fix ups.
I spent enough doing the Tein EDFC's and the Super low leafs and all the bushings and still getting tramp.

Cal tracks are tramp rods as well. But sit under the leafs. Mal wood tramp rods sit above the leaf,so u can't see them. No difference in them. U just get more clearance with Mals rods.

I dunno someone said here earlier that they had them and it still tramped. I would say mal woods stuff would work if all set up correctly his gear is genrally pretty top quaity.

cal tracks are more than a tramp rod the fastest leaf sprung cars in the world run caltracks. and split mono leafs

No difference??? Calctracks work so their is a big difference

when I enquired about the caltracks I was told I should raise my car to standard height and then the caltracks would work 100% so they wouldn't guarantee it either. Axle tramp can come down to numerous things, tyres, leafs, ride height. Find some1 who will guarantee it for me without lifting my car to standard height and I'll eat my words.

I got 2010 manual fg ute. Tramps regardless of driving style, 1st 2nd 3rd, weather its clutching it, e brake, or even just gunning it hard. I have not yet lost traction without the ass jumping around. Its really f*cked me off, I dont even brake traction at all now, just cos I know it will happen. It has really put a big thumbs down on the utes for me. The roads were I live are a little bumpy and I cant WOP anything before 4th cos one bump and it just goes spastic.

Post a fix if you find one, or even things that help reduce it. I would love to stop this.

Axle tramp has hounded cars with live axles for ever and after 40 years driving I too have had my fair share of cars with this problem however I believe that I have a solution and so do the V8 utes as this racing category uses Mal Wood Auto tramp rods in all of the Ford utes.
The issue of axle tramp in leaf sprung vehicles can be drawn out a bit but I would like to give you a list of procedures that I believe reduces axle tramp.
  • You must have good springs and I have tried them all, I currently use Lovells and these have proven to best I have used.
  • Good shocks are a must and most people will not realise that most shocks are stuffed after 20,000k
  • In my ute I removed the rubber from around the spring where the diff housing bolts on, I made alloy spacers that locates the saddle directly onto the leaf spring and I use a heavy plate under the spring and using the factory U/Bolts I bolt it up tight.
  • I then use my MWA Tramp rod kit, this is a bolt on kit with no welding required and no holes to drill, the fitting of the tramp rods takes about 2 to 3 hours to fit and adjust
  • And last but not least I reduce the tyre pressures, on my ute I had 38 lb in the rears and reduced that to 28 lb
  • Overall the ute hooks up fine and all it does is turn the tyres and doesn't tramp.
I hope this helps guys so if you are interested I have these kits in stock for $895. Mal Wood

I had pretty bad axle tramp when the ute was stock but after lowering the ute with pedders and adding front and rear sway bars I'm not getting any axle tramp at all..in the wet the rear is very predictable and slides out nice and smooth, in the dry it launches much better before loosing a bit of traction

Saying a car is for going from A to B is like saying sex is just for reproduction.

Just the standard stuff, sports ryder 2994 front coils and they reset the rear leafs, whiteline 20mm sway bar in the rear and adjustable 33mm in the front.

FIXED with Malwood Weld-in Tramp Rods. I literally did my first decent burnout as I left the welders workshop for a minute on the spot, no tramping at all. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
