Im abit puzzled about this issue im having in the xr6.. 99% of the times I turn it on, the revs will shoot up to 1500 then drop to under 500 to a point where the car is shaking and about to turn off (it has actually turned off a few times after ignition)

also, after abit of a thrashing once I come to a stationary point, the revs will drop to a point where she's about to turn off.

any ideas to what the problem may be caused by?

the car also does the same thing some times when I turn on the a/c.

this is really bugging me 'cause the car is running like crap

You haven't left it in drive have you....??

Seriously though, start by cleaning the t/b (and check out your airfilter while your at it) If that doesn't help you might want to throw a fuel filter at it and check out the plugs/coil packs.

Yeah mine does pretty much the same thing. Its only since being tuned but.

No idea why unfortunately. 97% of the time it starts and runs perfectly but just on random occasions it will do those exact symptoms..... weird

1 more thing, airleaks can cause similar symptoms to what your describing. When you have cleaned the TB. With the car idling go around each joint in the intake tract and the tb mounting gasket/manifold gasket ( the one between the upper and lower manifolds) and the manifold to head gaskets and spray each join. If the car coughs and stumbles when you spray the join with TB cleaner theres a fair chance theres and airleak there.

I have done T/B, air filter, fuel filter and plugs and it still does it - only thing I haven’t done from your list is coils....

Although, as I said mine only does it rarely as opposed to jets which seems to do it heaps more.

What year and build month is your car, if you can supply your SIDO number - even better. Failing all what you have done, this sounds like a classic case of TPS packing it in.

But before going out and getting a replacement TPS, let me know your build date first and also check your fuel regulator for blockages.

Hmm... I got no clue on the SIDO but the build info is: BA MK2 - 05/05 - what info can you gather from that?

I've reset the TPS also but obviously you mean it’s actually crapping itself. I'll have to have a squiz at the regulator. Thank you sir!

They did a level change on the TPS during very late model BA's. Completely different manufacturer of the TPS.

I've had a heap of BA's that start showing your symptons and sure enough the TPS is giving faulty readings. I usually change to the later type. I'll post a picture showing the two different units. Most obvious difference between the two, is you'll notice the housing of the BA one is slightly larger compared to a the later as fitted to BF.

Which procedure did you use to recalibrate the TPS?

That old chestnut - foot flat to the floor, turn key...

So a new one off a BF should fix it then? Will it still fit on the old plug considering the housing is slightly larger or that doesn't matter?
