I just had my step dad pass away from bowel cancer n just spead he was goin good until one night n they said from predicting to make it to xmas this yr to 2weeks was just not fair. the pain he was in I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy all the meds he was on to try n control the pain. in the last 2 weeks I was goin to the chemist to get all the pills etc as my mum took leave from work to make sure she was there for him. when I would take my son around to the house he would be flat on his back in pain but still got up to play with him.

as he said to me he knew he was goin to die but that wasnt going to stop him doing things he wanted to do. he still managed to do his job till the last 2 days b4 he passed away. got all the house re-done for my mum so she wouldnt have to. still made time to take his ute to the drags even after a big op.

Bit of an update.

Sunday morning, the nasty disease we all hate finally won the battle, taking my mother in-law who inspired me to start this thread.

Hopefully one day we will find a cure

R.I.P to all the victims

I am so sorry to hear that.

Our best wishes for you your wife and your family.

We lost a close friend to brest cancer 3 days before Chrissie. She was 40 with 2 kids under 6. Very sad time for everyone.

sorry to hear tv, My old man was given the news of prostate cancer 2 years ago now, hes tried radiation, hormones and everything seems to knock him around basically to the point hes developed drastic Cluster headaches and shocking side-affects to the hormones he can no longer take... Hes always been very sensitive to medications unfortunately.

6 months ago he decided to live it out med free, just monday he had a new blood test, results nearly tripled in 6 months.

I give the poor fella 1 year, maybe 2... hes happier off the meds, but detiorating noticeably.

F*&K you Cancer....

Condolences jamie.

it's hard to know just how much of a killer this desease really is and how quick it can turn bad until it hits close to you.

I just recently found out my grandma has been battleing cancer for the last 2 years, (she kept to herself alot) and it wasnt noticeable, until recently when the cancer moved into her pancrious. once the cancer got to her pancrious she couldnt eat and barely drank at all, par said in the last 6 weeks she had ate 2 prawns on christmas day. about 6 weeks ago was when I was informed and you saw her go down hill big time, she went from being a slightly chubby but short elderly lady (60kgish) to nothing, lost 20 kilos and was nothing but skin and bone when I flew back to see her in hospital 2 weeks ago.

she had lost 20 kilos in those 6 weeks, when I landed she had been given 3 weeks, so I started visiting her every 2nd day on the first 3 occassions she could still talk but very very faintly, you had to have your ear right next to he mouth. the 4th time she slept the whole time and the fifth turned out to be my last of which noone saw her open her eyes at all except when I whipered in her ear that she was "the best grandma anyone could ever wish for" she opened her eyes wide open for a few second and both her hands moved. After everyone questioning weather or not she could hear us and the doctor responding "people like to think they can it makes it feel like they have a conncection then" it made my day to know that she could hear what was being said

she passed on thursday the 17th and will be forever missed

RIP grandma

Sorry to hear of your loss Jamie, cancer certainly sucks. I certainly dont wish to take anything away from your terrible loss, although perhaps this may be a pertinent time to share my tale for the better good of us all.

Two years ago I went to my GP for a pre vasectomy exam and talk. Upon examination he said "hmm, dont like the feel of that, I'll send you to a specialist". 24 hours later the specialist tells me its testicular cancer- F#*K, im only 38!

Had surgery to remove the offending nut, followed by chemo a month later.

Two years later I still have regular exams, x rays cat scans, blood tests etc, but am looking pretty good for a long, semi-happy (married!) life.

The moral of this story guys is simple. Just as our mums, wives, daughters and girlfriends examine their breasts for lumps and changes, so must we give our nuts a gentle inspection/feel/squeeze and if ANYTHING changes go straight to your docs.

This is extra important if your under 30, as there are two types of seminoma (nut cancer), and the one that young guys get is super aggressive, gets into the lymph system -not good. Those of us over 30 still need to be vigilant as the other type can still kill if left untreated.

Once again Jamie, really sorry for your loss, Hawlass.
