G'day guys and gals, would anybody know of a reason why I would get a bad vibration through my steering wheel whilst almost stopped and turning the steering wheel ie, like turning into a parking bay and reversing back a little bit to straighten up? It happens whether I'm turning the wheel right or left.

Any ideas would be good.

Cheers :idunno:

I think what you are describing is air in the power steer lines, try topping up the fluid and going lock to lock 10 times, other than that the 2 bolts that hold the steering rack to the crossmember come loose and cause a cracking type noise.

Air in your power steering fluid.

Take it to a carpark and just do figure 8's till it goes away.

Normally happens AFTER someone has turned the steering wheel without the car running.

Easier way.

Have someone sit in the car and pop the bonnet.

Start the car.

Turn the steering wheel full lock one way until you here the pump straining.

Turn the power steering cap until the seal is broken. Re tighten the cap.

Turn the steering wheel full lock the other way and repeat.

Do this once or maybe twice and the issue should be gone.

Thanks fellas. Spot on maximus, it started happening when my flex plate came loose and I had to turn the wheel without it running to get it up onto the tow truck.

Will try out the figure 8's tomorrow.

I also loosened the power steering fluid cap and noticed that it was under pressure aswell, so I'll also do what you suggested Envy.

Thanks alot people and I'll let you know how I go tomorrow...

Thanks people. Problem has almost gone now. Tried the figure 8's in the carpark for a little while, but started to get some funny looks from a learner driver practicing there. :nono:

Anyway will have another crack at it later and I might introduce some speed into the figure 8's.

Cheers again people.

I fix it simmilar to Envy, but I just take the cap off, and go back and forth lock to lock a few times, it will get easy and stop after a couple of repititions

same thing with my car atm mate and I just had my power steering rack replaced a couple of months ago!!

How much did you end up paying as I got quoted today $893 all up from Pedders. New rack $350, urethane control arm bush $123, labour $345, wheel aligment and other for the rest.

My steering has been getting worse over the past year as far as the clicking, shuddering while stationary and turning th wheel and also clunking when going off driveways.

Clicking though is bad now!

I always had the shudder issue after the car had been hoisted up and the suspension drops down?
