Im looking to buy an aftermarket in car GPS for my soon to be wife (less than 3 weeks now :stirthepot: ) and was wondering what features etc to look out for??

I'm not looking for the top of the range - just something that will be easy for her to use and will get her from A to B...(she's USELESS with directions) :crybaby:

I may even get one for myself as well if the price was right...

I'm in the very early stages of research so any information would be well appreciated including which brands and also where the best deals are to be had..

Thanks in advance guys and girls...

Are you talking about fitting it to a falcon or just any GPS to fit to a car?

I have heard lots of good things about TomTom GPS systems, maybe check out their range? Dick Smith has them all set up in their stores so you can have a play with them and see how they are mounted and controlled.

She has a Lancer... BUT

I'm interested in what's involved in fitting it to the Falcon as the more I research the more I want one for myself!!!

Steve - I've also heard that Tom Tom units are pretty useful...

Does anyone on the forum have a Tom Tom GPS... if so how would you rate it??

Cheers

If you have premo sound I would get the one that plugs into it with the remote control.

Otherwise all that you need to do to fit the unit it pretty much the same as a handsfree... they have a remote receiver (if its a fitted unit) and plug into power. Some even have an integrated receiver antenna so you dont need to mount anything externally. They all should come with a local map cd, if it doesnt make sure they give you the cd for free (its not much use in WA if it comes with a US map cd/flash card)

I have the Ford fitted VDO unit in my car and I use a Tom Tom 910 in a work car.

In my humble opinion you can't go past the Tom Tom!

It so easy to use even my wife can use it.

Touch screen, 3D graphics and you can run you Bluetooth phone thought it.
