  1. Hey some1 tried to break in and steal my ford.. they destroyed the ignition barrel by drilling it out and also must have smashed the steering lock off.. I have both my original keys & and a transponder remote.. whats the best way to go about it.. can I just unscrew the whole ignition barrel/steering lock unit and replace with one from the wreckers or do I have to do the whole column or what and if I do get the whole column (with keys) am I able to programme the keys myself?any ideas? Any help appreciated thanks!!!
  2. I have noticed that there is significant differences in ignition timing between a standard 2007 F6 BF and a standard 2009 F6 FG. The load scales are different, but the FG igntion table is quite a bit more advanced in most areas of the table. Given that the FG F6 runs slightly higher boost than the BF F6, I would have thought that if anything the F6 FG would have had less ignition advance than the BF. It looks to me like the the F6 FG assumes a higher octane rating in the borderline knock table (ie 98RON fuel), will pull the timing back through knock retard if 91RON or 95RON is used and will recover the timing back to the borderline knock table if 98RON is used afterwards. Is there is a difference between the F6 BF & F6 FG engines that allows this timing increase while still keeping a conservative timing table? Or is the F6 FG ignition tables just optimised to take better advantage of 98RON than the F6 BF?
  3. Here is a photographic guide to help you change the colour of the Ignition Illuminator on your BF MkII XR6. Here is a link to the globes I used from eBay. You need a T4 Wedge globe. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130582917218?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Starting with the stock orange light you can see here... Under the steering column you will see 3 screws, philips head. Remove all 3 of these. Now the bottom and top halves will separate on the column and you can completely remove the bottom half. You will need to unplug this power lead. (you can do this first or second) Here is the screw that will release the housing so you can proceed to the next step. Again philips head. Now you will be required to remove the following 4 clips to open up the housing. This is a bit tricky but it will help with a flat head screw driver. Here is the T4 Wedge Globe, using a flat head, twist and remove. Replace with your desired colour LED Now return to the car and plug it back in, test. Once confirmed it is working, place the housing back over the ignition, screw back it in and replace the steering column cover, screw in and ensure the top half is in the correct place. After Cheers guys
  4. Hi all Turbo heads, Question, can I replace the ignition key barrel only, My 3 yr old son stuck a stick in the ignition and snapped it off and me being filled with rage couldn't find a way to remove it sensibly so I got the drill out and drilled it out, Success, So I thought, Key went in, Car starts, Car shuts down, Oh Crap,,, Cant get key out, I damaged the key entry gate and it catches on the end of the key on the way out, Back to Rage,, LOL I see a lot of people are saying the whole column need to be replaced as the barrel cant be removed, But I found that the ignition can be removed and a replacement can be purchased, I need to know , does the barrel itself need coding along with key or can I just replace the barrel and take the immobilizer chip out of my existing key and put in new key..
  5. hello out there, just bought an 03 xr6t which seems to have been well looked after. I've noticed an intermitent miss at idle ( like a very brief ignition cut of .1-.2 second or something) and I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this, it does have new plugs, coils, fuel pump and filter, all done by previous owner. any advice greatly appreciated, thanks
  6. Hey guys A couple days ago I took my car to the auto sparky for a quick install of my gauges, as I decided pulling the ICC out was too stressful for me. they completed the job fairly quick and no worries, but as soon as I left the auto sparky a problem started Driving along, doesnt matter if im accelerating, cornering or just sitting at the lights, the ICC would just turn off, come up with "security code error" then reset and back to normal with reset clock etc. I took it back to them that afternoon and they pulled it apart and said they couldnt find anything wrong with it and I said I'd wait the weekend. Here I am on Tuesday, and as driving home yesterday I had two occurrences of the ICC turning completely off, the Ignition turning off (dash lights all turn on like ive just started it and slowly turn off) and roll like that for a good couple of seconds, and to the auto sparky it sounds like im trying to get my BA mk2 manual fixed for a earlier problem for free, but this never happened until they f***** with it. so, down to the question.. is there anything in the process of pulling the ICC out, and wiring up boost and oil pressure, that they could have loosened anything that would mess with ignition and ICC power? so I have a bit of knowledge for the subject when I take it back in today a bit more upset on the subject. Thanks heaps guys in advance
