  1. Cool, thanks for the replies. I think I need to sort out the second fan and make sure it runs with the first one
  2. Having some issues with cooling (BA XR6T). the needle sits at 1/4 normally, under load or in town it rises to 1/2. Never goes above 1/2. Is this normal? Could it have the wrong temperature sender? It is using cooling fluid, about half a litre per 200kms. No sign of water in the engine oil. Transmission cooler is external. The engine and radiator have been flushed, new hoses, new heater core. new pressure cap. Just found out that only one fan is running. The book says both fans run together and they are both two speed. can anyone confirm this? Can I test this with Forscan? Any other ideas? Cheers
  3. lot, more than it is insured for
  4. Elite Auto Painters in Tauranga have done a fantastic job. Every panel had damage, and they sorted the hinges on the lid as well as the tailgate,
  5. Yep, I have tried the glass people. I don't have a pic but it is on the B pillar, and the trim is the surround around the glass. The paint & panel shop has tried using his resources to locate anything but no luck as yet, either. There is a network the professionals use to try and locate parts, unfortunately no help in NZ
  6. Hi, I am getting my Ute repainted and I wanted to replace the trim around the quarter windows. the plastic is going whitish and the rubber is shrinking. There is a gap on both sides of about 10mm at the bottom and 5mm at the top, where it fits into the plastic vertical piece. I have tried both Ford NZ and Ford AU, but these parts are not available. Has anyone got any ideas on replacements? or even part numbers, so I can google them? Cherrs Glenn
  7. Hi, just a quick question, the steering rack has been identified with a possible worn bushes? Are all BA steering racks the same? I.e. ratio etc? I may be able to get a used Fairmont steering rack. Can they be rebuilt? Cheers Glenn BA XR6T Ute
  8. Yep, should have said, I am happy, only did the seats on Wednesday, the roof lining is not for the dog smell, just the oily finger marks, sagging and generally crap looking. It was a bit of a dog when I bought it (excuse the pun) and am slowly making it user friendly. Glenn
  9. So, the previous owner used to drive around with a dog in the cab. I pulled the carpets out and replaced the underlay with wool underlay, and hand scrubbed the carpet, then pressure washed it. Then put it all back. I have been looking for replacement seats and found some out of a Fairmont sedan. So I sent them to the valet company for a professional clean. they came out great. Then I pulled out the old XR6 leather (dog smelly) seats and dismantled the seat back, to get the frame out. Did the same with the Fairmont seat back. basically put the XR6 seat frame into the Fairmont seat. I had to remove the side airbags, as the ute frame doesn't support them, the seat foam is all from the Fairmont And, the XR6 drivers seat had the usual broken seat pan, the Fairmont one is good. So, the Fairmont seats are more comfortable, but less sporty, and are cloth not leather. I still have the ability to tilt the seat forward is per the normal ute function. All in all the ute is now not smelling, and today, the roof lining is getting replaced.
  10. Thanks, yes it is a 2003 BA. I thought I'd added a signature with details, I'll try to add it again. I haven't had it long and there were a few gremlins, which I'm slowly coming to terms with. The next one is Error Code P2140. Forscan is reading a difference between pedal position sensors 2 and 3, of about 0.5v from idle to fully depressed pedal. Not sure what to do here except try another pedal position sensor. Glenn
  11. Hi All, Being new to the turbo, I am trying to get anidea of the way the turbo operates. my attachment shows part of a Forscan scope that I saved. So, I was travelling at 50ish and then floored the accererator till about 110. the manifold absolute went up to 2.48v, not sure what pressure this equates to. The Turbo kPa rose to 135kPa and when I throttled off at 110, the Turbo pressure rose to 162kPa, I expect this was due to the throttle lifting off, if ambient is 100kPa, then the Turbo was limiting to 35kPa (5psi) is this right? and then on overrun the Turbo pressure rose to 62kPa (8psi) above ambient. Is this normal? I am saving various graphs to try and expand my knowledge and reason out how it all works. hope you can steer me in the right direction and feel free to correct my assumptions.

Hi All, Just bought a BA XR6T Ute in gold. Was my brothers car and got it cheap! (see why below) So far spent a heap on getting it roadworthy, Engine mounts, Front Brake rotors All filters All fluids Power steering pipe Turbo Seat belts Just need a reliable standard car for now. Will be looking at some mods as time and funds permit. Only things missing is the jack and the owners manual, where can I download a manual?? Oh, and it needs a new heater core, but since it is summer, not so urgent Crap photo, but its all I've got at the moment Glenn
