  1. Hi Phil, thank you very much for this pictorial. I am curious about one thing though. I am tightening down the lower ball joint and it occurred to me that I do not understand why it doesnt spin as it tightens. A ball should spin shouldn't it ? I didn't need two spanners to take it off and the photos don't answer this. I have not come across a north south positioning mentioned anywhere for mounting a ball joint and am a little perplexed. For anyone else reading this, I bought a press on ebay for 55 bucks but as it took a week to show up , I think it might depend on your level of desperation wether to go this way. One side of the car was easier than the other for some reason. I thought I was going to crack the concrete in the garage before the upper arm ball joint gave. I did this when it was off the car (left the lower arms on) and am glad as I could see progress on the bench as I tightened. The uppers were much heavier work than the lowers and I think different brands of ball joint may make the new rubber boot a necessity for removal before pressing. Depends on the fittings supplied with the press. Double check the upper arm bushes as I replaced them as well and found one side were already new after I had drilled out the rubber which was buried under dirt. I got quoted big dollars to do this and feel every bit off 55 years today. You will need plenty of time as my joints (the car that is) were a lot tougher than anything on you tube. Car had 310 thousand ks, so no idea how old these were or if they were fitted right last time. Good luck to the next reader and thank you very much again Phil.
