  1. Hey guys, recently ran into troubles with my ignition switch crapping itself. When I pulled the shroud off I noticed that the black plastic had come loose, which resulted in the internals of the switch springing out. I had planned on replacing the column as was told that it the most cost effective way to repair on a budget. However my landlords are wanting to get our driveway redone shortly and while I am saving the funds for a decent replacement part I wondered if I could reassemble my own switch. All internals are in good order etc. I have put it back together correctly and have gone to test whether it will start and it continually blows the ignition fuse as soon as it touches. Any tips on anything I may have done wrong that could be causing this ? My originally problem was that my key wouldn’t stay on and would spring back into the off position as soon as I let it go. Is it just a write off part or is there still hope in getting it at least useable so I am able to move my car
  2. I have some off the brothers xr6 n/a will they do the trick in the mean time while I wait for new ones to arrive, he replaced his while chasing an idle issue and discovered they were perfectly fine and his problem was a leaking intake gasket
  3. Recently replaced my blow off valve with a new scarles one, discovered that the old one was sucking in air at idle cause if my car to run at 11 in vacuum according to the gauge. It’s now at 20-23 in vacuum at idle etc now. I took it forbits first test run tonight since doing some maintenance and have found that it’s not boost right, it picks up boost well and then once it hits its peak the boost drops to about 2 psi (standard 4/5psi tune). The car seems to shudder and lurch about occasionally surging back up and down, a couple of times it had a slight backfire. Temp is normal. No smoke. No lights showing up or anything to show that it’s picking up an error. Has anybody had this issue before ?
  4. Hey guys . Notice in the car last night when taking the car for a drive . Put my foot down and right before the car hits boost it gave out an odd fluttering kind of sound and hit a flat spot for a couple of seconds and then hit boost. Any pointers in what area I should be looking to fix the fault? It also seems to surge a little bit when cold and first start driving
  5. Oh . I didn't mean it went from the 1/4 line . Mean that as an idea of the distance between half and 3/4 mark . It was moving up and down between 11oclock and 1oclock . Was usually always at 11 but with the hills etc it's started to go up and down in temp . The city I. Love in is completely flat . Only started in this hilly place . That's awesome news!! . I am still a little wary of my new girl . As it was owned by a young guy before me who went for the cheaper options of things . Eg compressed Springs rather then actual lowering springs . And a home job middle muffler delete. I've patched over the exhaust welds temporarily until I can get it into a shop to be cut out and done properly . Just want to keep it pretty much factory other then a nice subtle sound and lowering springs set to suit the 18s with minimal complications due to height clearance. Thank you very much for your help . I imagine I'll be scouring through these forums when I get some time trying to soak up as much info about these cars as possible
  6. Thanks guys . Yes I know it's about normal at halfway . Was a little worried about the fluctuations to about 1/4 between the 1/2 -3/4 range . I will be giving it a coolant flush etc when I'm back home from the work trip. Other then that it goes great . Left me white knuckled on the passing lanes that's for sure
  7. Hey guys . I've officially owned 2003 ba xr6t for a week tomorrow. I've driven it from christchurch to dunedin for work purposes. As I was nearing dunedin and the hills became a factor in started noticing my temp gauge behaving funny the car was hearing up to about 3mm passed the middle and then dropping down to just under half again . It's been doing it all day while driving around dunedin (for those that don't know , Dunedin is built mainly in hills. ) is this cause for concern or just the car responding to the extra load with hill climbing etc . It doesnt reach the halfway point between 1/2 and 3/4 though
