  1. Hi Ken, An idea I was thinking about was asking to see if there was any interest amongst potential Tassie cruisers in having 2 groups go across on 18 Nov. The first group is the 2 week group and the 2nd one are the tight ones (tight for time that is not arses)? I don't know what the 2 week route looks like, but maybe if 2 groups did exist, maybe the 2nd group that goes over for possibly 4-5 days can meet up with the first group either doing common routes or occassionally rendezvousing at places. I'm raising this out of self-interest because I'd like to go, but I'd prefer to go for a shorter period than 2 weeks. But I don't want to only do half the island with you guys and then miss out on the rest of it because I leave near the end of the 1st week. I'd still rather do a trip that takes in the popular attractions whilst I'm there. Maybe a solution is to design the route and activities so that several popular roads / attractions are done in the first week and then the remaining group can continue with other roads and other major attractions? In the back of my mind is also the possibility of negotiating a good price on the Spirit of Tasmania if there is a larger group buying return tickets (even though we come back on different dates). Though this may not be relevent if people are leaving Sydney and Melbourne to go to Devonport. I guess the biggest drawcard for you is that by doing this may help get a larger number of cars on the cruise at the beginning. Anybody have any comments on this?
  2. Hi cat and dog lovers, Subject: Dogs and Cats The Dog's diary: 7 am - Oh boy! A walk! My favourite! 8 am - Oh boy! Dog food! My favourite! 9 am - Oh boy! The kids! My favourite! Noon - Oh boy! The yard! My favourite! 2 pm - Oh boy! A car ride! My favourite! 3 pm - Oh boy! The kids! My favourite! 4 pm - Oh boy! Playing ball! My favourite! 6 pm - Oh boy! Welcome home Mom! My favourite! 7 pm - Oh boy! Welcome home Dad! My favourite! 8 pm - Oh boy! Dog food! My favourite! 9 pm - Oh boy! Tummy rubs on the couch! My favourite! 11 pm - Oh boy! Sleeping in my people's bed! My favourite! The cat's diary: Day 183 of my captivity... My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded - must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favourite chair - must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of time.
  3. Well, 5 months in and I've got really really bad clunking as I turn the steering wheel whilst parking. Let an attractive colleague drive my car today and she said "What's that noise?" as she parked it. Hard to believe that for $48k+ a virtually brand new car has clunking steering. I've had far less expensive cars before my XR6s and none of them have had this. I intend to have this looked into, because it's much worse than the steering clunking in my previous BA XR6. On the bright side, I've got 2 1/2 times the power and probably 4 1/2 times the torque now compared my early cars - and the XR6T looks heaps better
  4. Apparently The Age will have an article on the new VE tomorrow's (Wed's) paper.
  5. I think human stupidity contributes significantly to alot of accidents on the road.
  6. I 2nd that. It's really helpful for the lead car with CB (who is moderating the speed of the cruise) to have a back marker with CB to ensure all concerned enjoy the cruise as part of one group. Adds to the spectator value as well.
  7. Hi hafadude, Thanks, those pics are intense, especially the first one showing the steepness up. I'll look into staying on-site.
  8. Hi Ken 24T, I've put together a list of mobile numbers of guys on the cruise and handing them out to those guys that volunteered their mobile numbers for the cruise. Not a substitute for CBs, but never-the-less comes in handy.
  9. Hi KEN 24T, I think that's a good idea about the emergency contact numbers. Especially if something serious happens on the road.
  10. hafadude, Thanks for the tips about the places to stay at Alice Springs and about the road trains. I read elsewhere on the web that if you do want to climb Ayres Rock, you need to do it either early in the morning as it gets unbearably hot there during summer. May be a different story in winter? Having read more about Ayres Rock and seeing your advice, I probably won't be climbing it because it's described as quite steep in parts and a long climb for small kids (though I know they'd love a piggy back up it ). Also read that it's $16.50 per person (Adult or Child) for a 3 day pass to the Uluru and The Olgas area. So I guess it's 1 day at Uluru and 1 day at The Olgas. 4-5 hours one way between Uluru and Alice Springs is a far distance. Sounds like it means leaving Alice Springs about 2am in the morning to catch the sunrise (or are the changing colors of Ayres Rock happening all the time during the morning?). Probably catch the sunset instead
  11. Will you be taking the new coastal route through Royal National Park that goes over the newly built coastal bridge? I hear it is a good drive that has only become possible again after the bridge was built.

  13. Hiya guys, Saw this article (published 7 April) about the new Expensive Daewoo Late model camira VE due out in August this year. http://www.drive.com.au/editorial/article....vf=7&bg=24&pp=0 No mention of a turbo charged VE (thank goodness ). Looks like they are going to stick with the rough as guts V6 alloy but up its power to 200kW (though calling it 200kW has a psychological advantage numerically - it's now no longer in the 100's).
  14. I think a couple I knew about 5-8 years ago did a loop similar to that in about 4 weeks - Melbourne - Adelaide - Ayres Rock - Darwin - Townsville - FNQ - down the east coast back to Melbourne. They did it in a little Pulsar hire car and I think they pretty much drove all the time. I don't think they had the luxury of stopping and spending a day or so at places that appealed to them.
  15. Hi hafadude, Thanks for the tips. Not sure if you or any others have any suggestions on accomodation, but I'd like some recommended places for accomodation over-night at Alice Springs and Coober Pedy for a family - 2 adults and 2 small children? Would prefer to know about places people have actually stayed at and what they thought about them. Looks like I'll be using unleaded when I get there. Sort of looking forward to driving on some roads without speed limits, though don't think I'll be going very fast with a full family holiday load. Don't know much about road-trains. I have heard you have to give way them a wide berth or something. Are there any suggestions about how to treat road-trains when I encounter one? Thanks.
  16. Hiya guys, I've been chatting with hiddeous about his Nokia 6230i email issue and I now realise that the 6230i menu structure is quite different from the that of the Nokia 6230 which I based my wireless email configuration guide on. Some of the concepts remain the same, it's just that where you enter information is under different menus comparing the Nokia 6230 and Nokia 6230i. One of my mates has a Nokia 6230i and I will have a look at his and maybe update the wireless email configuration guide.

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

I had really bad brake shudder in my BA Mk I XR6. I took over the car whilst it had about 30k on the clock. Nothing Ford did stopped it - right up until the time the lease finished at about 65k on the clock. Even the new brake compound did not really stop it. After machining the disc's (which I did about 3 times whilst I had it) the shudder would return after about 8k on the clock. The new brake compound probably did help a little, but the side-effect was getting black brake dust all over the front alloys about 2 days after cleaning them I've had the BF now for about 5 months. It's got just over 10k on the clock and no shudder. But I guess will see what happens after I clock up more k's. If I go 2nd hand next time for my next XR6 Turbo, it'll probably be a BA Mk II and I'll try to get one with the premium brake package or if not fitted, seriously consider upgrading to the premium brake package if I feel any brake shudder. I have not heard of anyone on the forum with the premium brake package experiencing brake shudder (but I've also not read every post in this thread ) My thoughts anyway.

    Turbo Noise

Mine doesn't whistle and it was one of the first BF's off the assembly line in 2005. Had it for about 5 months now and no whistle that I've noticed from sitting inside the car, even under heavy acceleration. A workmate said his T whistled, but I never really got to listen to his whistle much and I got the impression it only whistled for him on heavy acceleration. In my opinon, I think the whistle may be a sign that something is loose and ought to be attended to.

  20. Hi God666, I must have pasted it in wrong in my post above (which I have edited to be the correct link now). http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...ndpost&p=338925 Try this one. I tried it and it takes me to the thread okay.
  21. Hi hiddeous, As per my PM, please feel free to call me. In the meantime, you might want to try a few things: - Do a soft power reset of your Nokia (pull the battery right out and put it back in). Sometimes the Nokia's lock up. - Have a look at my post on setting up the Nokia for POP3 email. http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...ndpost&p=338925 It talks about setting it up for the Forum's POP3 email, but the concepts are all there. You might need to double check that usernames, password and server names are correct. You might need to retype them in incase they have been corrupted. - Have a look at your POP3 email service when you log in normally from your laptop or PC. See if POP3 access has for some reason been disabled for some reason. - Sounds like you need to concentrate on the POP3 server rather than the SMTP server as you are having problems popping I.e. retrieving your emails. - May also be an issue with using GPRS with your Nokia. What I was going to discuss with you is find out if you can still surf the internet okay with your Nokia?
  22. Just wondering if anyone went to any of the Sydney Ed Kuepper concerts?

  25. Do you think the 4WD was stolen by some drug addicts? A neighbour who lived nearby had a mental condition and almost crushed us against our front brick fence as we stood outside on the front pavement. We were so stunned at what was happening, did not have time to move before it was all over. Literally missed us by a few metres. He just drove down the street at normal speed then turned his car left, drove over the front gutter and into our brick wall! At the time, I think he was having a blue with his missus and he just lost it.
