  1. As mentioned earlier - upgrade to a T56 first before any engine mods. You have the ingredients to a 350+rwkw engine but the T5 gear box will grenade.
  2. Oh how one sentence can reveal so much
  3. Jake, That's a very difficult question to answer. Depends on a lot of factors (transmission mods, tune, tyres, km traveled, etc). On paper they should both have around the same power so similar 0-100km and 1/4 mile times are expected. A stock FG will handle much better and therefore will drive far better in every way. Bottom line is that - with enough time and money - you can make your car faster than a Ferrari, but at the end of the day it will still be a BA Falcon.
  4. Looking at the 1/4 mile runs in the GT the part that impresses the most is the top end speed. With some decent boost, intercooler and slicks it isn't hard to see a LOT of GT's running 10's. Simply amazing times from what is essentially a stock engine.
  5. Mate I would go the MANUAL for sure!!! The FG 6060 box is great, tough box and very well suited to high HP engines. I had a ZF F6 and it was soooo boring. I changed from a BA F6 (manual obviously) to a BF F6 auto mainly due to all the hype around the ZF auto. I drove it for two years and I must admit it is a good auto. Problem for me is I like DRIVING the car. Every day I look forward to driving my FG manual. Yes it's clunky, there's driveline shunt at low speeds, the clutch is heavy......but every time you go up or down through the gears at pace, the experience puts a smile on my face that no auto could. With the GT the manual would be even better. No lag, instant power on tap between gears, the exhaust note!! I can see that there is a market for an AUTO GT - I'm just not that market. Don't confuse sequential shift with a manual - they are worlds apart. I always laugh when auto people say "you can change in manual mode if you like". What a load of BS. I tried to drive my auto in manual mode but is just ain't the same. Slipping clutch out of corners....turbo spooling....blip the throttle on downshifts to match engine speed. That is driving. It's a skill worth practicing and one that makes driving a pleasure.
  6. Hey Anchor -If I was keeping the car and looking to mod then the GS would be a great base. From what I know it wouldn't take much to tune the 315 into big numbers. It needs better brakes even from a cosmetic point of view. Suspension, brakes and tune - $15K would turn itinto a weapon and will eat any STOCK GT in the land. The problem is I'll be keeping it stock and moving on in 3 years. I'm also not ashamed to admit I'm looking for a certain look and the 'sleeper' theory isn't for me. If I spend $60+k on a car I want peoiple to know its worth every cent. I know that's shallow but hey at least I can admit it. I'm definitely taking your advice and waiting for new GTs in 2011. If I can't justify the extra coin the a Euro 3 F6 will do me very nicely. Can I make one final comment on the SC V8? It really is the most detuned motor I have ever experienced. I know it's been said but the potential (even from the factory) seems to way more than the chassis/driveline can handle. I know this may sound weird but it's almost like this engine (in it's full capacity) is too good for the humble Aussie Falcon. With a decent tune, intercooler and enough fuel, this motor WILL destroy any current driveline in the Ford Aus toolbox. The other issue is tyres. Even stock the GS breaks traction at 3/4 throttle input so any extra power would only expose this shortfall further(particularly in the wet). The issue then becomes drivability. A driveline capable of safely handling 400rwkw is not very driver friendly and most day to day drivers would find it too harsh for road conditions. A decent set of rears (e.g. 275/30/20) will also add serious $$ to the cost of the car. If my crystal ball reads correctly I think this engine will become an after-market tuner's dream and only those willing to give up warranties and spend some coin on mods will ever see it's real potential.
  7. So it came down to a decision between the the FG F6, the GS315 or the G6ET. I had all three cars lined up for back to back test drives - with the hope that there would be a clear stand out to fill the garage. Before any test drive my preference was to move into the F6 (my 3rd) - stupidly enough mainly due to my Personalised Plates - let's just say they suit the F6 but would need to be replaced if I went the V8. So I drove the F6 first. ZF auto in all three cars. The F6 was great in every way. I am very familiar with the driving characteristics so it was only a 'test' to confirm that everything I love about this car is still true. My only dissapointment again was the brakes. Standard Brembos don't really do it for me but they are fair. Next was the GS. The dealer had to go put some fuel in it because the DTE was 0. As he drove off I was again impressed by the external sound from the quad pipes. Before I go on I should mention that I have been in a GT around QR and the driver at the time pushed the car to (and beyond) it's mechanical limits, so I was expecting fireworks. My test drive only left me more undecided than before I started. The initial take off from the SC V8 is amazing. It takes off without any hesitation or lag. The power delivery is very linear so the seat-of-pants experience isn't as explosive as the F6. The sound is simply awesome - They should record a sound track and sell it to F6 owners to play. It's weird but the brakes on the GS (which are standard XR I believe) felt as good as the F6 Brembos. Having driven a couple of BA/BF GTs I was impressed by the GS turn in. The front-heavy feel of the old BOSS 5.4 is not there anymore. Getting power down out of corners is great. The SC V8 launches out without hesitation. I pulled up at the dealer again and drove the G6ET... well almost. As soon as I sat in the cabin I realised 2 things. 1/. I'm too young to drive a G6ET - I didn't even start the engine. 2/. The GS is just too plain for me and I personally don't feel it's worth $61k. So yes I'm shallow blah blah but in the end I couldn't fork out that money for what looks like a XR8. The brakes look rediculously small (even though they brake very well), the stickers look sh*t, the body kit looks XR8 and the interior looks and feels XR8. I got back in the F6 and instantly felt satisfied I could live with this choice. I told the sales manager and he went and started the paperwork. $55.5k drive away - demo Euro3 F6 no extras. Then it hit me - the GT? They had one in the show room that was sold waiting delivery that afternoon. I asked to sit inside and decided I won't chnage cars until I at least give one a proper drive. So I have deferred my new ride until early next year. The guys at the dealership were really good about it (mind you I have spent over $300k over the past 10 years)and said they will contact me when they get 2011 stock. If I had to choose between the GS and the F6 the decision would be the F6 - no question. The GS deserves to be 5-6K cheaper than what it is. In terms of sheer performance the 2 cars are very similar with no clear stand out. At 10/10ths the F6 is probably a better weapon with better brakes and overall drivability. In day to day driving the GS would be fun - the sound, the bulge, the instant power off the line and drive out of corners. Here's the rub - the GT offers everything the F6 has plus more. It has all the good points of the GS plus all the good things from the F6 all rolled up into one. My issue is price. It's a work car and the extra 10 - 12k to move into the GT will be a stretch. In summary the FPV bargain is still the mighty F6. If the budget extends a little more then the GT will tick all the boxes. If I was buying a new F6 Euro4 with leather at $68k then I personally wouldn't hesitate and pay the extra coin to buy the GT. But I'm looking for a demo bargain for under $60k so that puts the GT of my league until mid next year at least.
  8. Cranny, What planet are you on? You really make me laugh. The way you go about discrediting the GT in favour of the F6 makes me cringe. I love the F6 and I beleive in letting the car speak for itself. This video is nothing more than a couple of amatuers driving like miss daisy. The guy in the GT is at least taking the racing line. The F6 is braking way too early using far less track than the car is capable of. In my opinion the F6 driver is testing acceleration out of each corner (WOT) and cant brake or corner to save his life. The guy in the Gt is driving the car better but isn't coming out of the corners anywhere near 10/10ths. To drive a car properly around a race track you need to be prepared to sacrifice a % of your tyres and brakes to get the most out of it. 10-20 hot laps in either car will destroy 10-20% of the tyres and as much of the brakes too. These guys didn't seem to be racing in ANY way, shape or form. If you can conclude that a the GT can't keep up with a F6 based on this video, when motoring magazines with professional drivers at the wheel say otherwise, then save it to your desktop and play it till the cows come home. For the record a lot of these kind of drive days have rules to say you can't pass or get within 10 car lengths of the car in front. Maybe - if I was inclined to discredit the F6 - I would suggest the GT driver was frustrated by a limp F6 that kept getting within 10 car lenghts and kept making me back off? Perspective is a wonderful thing. Lets face it. your not really in the market for a GT. Me thinks you might be trying to justify your purchase to the rest of the world? Good luck and go the F6!!
  9. Hi mate, Yes the shift between 1st and 2nd is notchy when cold. The first few shifts each morning I take deliberately slow - sometimes even double clutching! You will find that once the car warms up everything will be fine. If not then you have a problem. When I had my BA F6 with T56 gearbox it was very much the same. I had Mainlube gearbox oil put in and a lot of the bearing rollover sound disappeared and the gear changes were much smoother. I haven't bothered with the FG so far. It really is amazing that manufacturers use the sh*tiest oil possible when they build a car (Ford?).
  10. Hats off to you mate - that sounds awesome!!
  11. Hi mate - the corporate day (or rather 1/2 day) way at QR 2 weeks ago. I didn't want to name drop or get third party people involved but the driver was WL (not a full time driver but more than qualified to test the car). I will not give heresay comments made by Warren but suffice to say he was impressed. I have previously done 2 full day drives at QR with BMW track days and we drove (and were driven around as passengers) everything from 325 manuals to m3. On this occassion I was only a passenger. I have also been around the with Warren in the DJR320 (full Alcon brakes). If you know the track (and it sounds like you do) we drove the Clubman circuit which cuts in half way down the back straight. Just for sh*ts and giggles I will give you the different experiences in the M3 and GT. Turn 1 GT(130-140km/h) both outside passenger tyres were squealing with lateral load. Turn 2 the GT was able to get power down far earlier than expected. but M3 was 10-15ks faster through both right hand turns. M3 also able to brake MUCH later washing off most of the speed from the straight without unsettling the line. Turn 3 dips down before the long left hander. There was a pool of water in the dip and very difficult to get power down in the GT. The GT got to about 160km before heavy brake into right hander leading into main straight. Again power down using DSC and TC was really good (not intrusive at all) and we were well into 5th gear before braking again into turn 1. Second lap was shocking - the standard Dunlops were mush after 1 lap. Pushed wide in T1 and T2 before we backed off to cool things down again. The M3 drive was not a fast lap - it was a fun lap. The guys from BMW drove it like a drift car - oversteer acceleration in every turn. M3 was able to hit higher top speed on main straight due to better exit speed (even with the back hanging out) and able to brake much later. It's hard to express in words how much better the BMW is around a track. It absorbs bumps (any there are many) without fuss and the car just feels so well balanced even at scarey speeds. The cabin is soooo much nicer and the car felt as good after 3 crazy laps as it did on the first. The GT felt like we were doing it harm by driving at 10/10ths. The suspension/tyres just aren't suitable for track purposes no mater what FPV's marketing people will tell you. As a performance road car it is awesome. Very few people will ever get to the limits of the cars on the road. For the record the ONLY reason I bothered to post a reply is because I honestly felt the OP was completely at odds with my own experience. My underlying memory of the GT is the amazing sound of the SC and exhaust note. I've always like the Ford V8 note and this one tops them all. When the OP said it didn't sound like a V8 and the car was a dud I had to retort.
  12. The fact that Cranny said he drove a GT 335 hardly makes it a FACT. Get it? Has the penny dropped? The OP is BS - simple. Do you need to drive to be able to hear the exhaust note? Do you need to be driving to hear the tyrs screeching in 1st and second? Can a passenger not tell whether a car is FAAAAAR superior to another car? For the record we also drove 3 laps around QR in a M3 (again I was a passenger) directly after the GT and I can tell you the M3 is in a class of it's own again. But hey, that could just be my super human perception. Some people need to have their hand on the wheel to make these conclusions.
  13. Hey Cranny - Don't mean to emabarrass you further but when you lie you need to make it consistent. On the 8th Nov you say your BF is "stock". Today you say it's got a tune and runs 12.2 sec 1/4 mile?? Your F6 with "only 235rwkw" felt faster than the GT 335?? Couldn't break traction? I can only assume you can't drive properly because there isn't a person on this forum that couldn't get an auto GT 335 to break traction EVERYTIME they take off with WOT, let alone "hammering it from every situation". "quiet and un V8 like" - your words mate. You asked if anyone can tell you you are wrong so I am here to tell you : YOU ARE WRONG. I am being serious when I ask you this - Are you sure the car you say you drove with 5000km, that didn't sound like a V8, couldn't break traction from any sistuation, felt slower that your stock (maybe modified, depending on how the story runs at that point in time) BF F6, was indded an actual GT 335? The car that Ford make that fits your description is the XT (not GT). Maybe you got mixed up (again). I like my turbo Falcons as much as anyone but I would never resort to such nonsense to put the F6 on a pedestal. "All glorious F6"?? I'm not ashamed to hand the crown to the deserving King of Australian Performance Cars - the GT 335!
  14. Nice reply - would you like to address your inconsistencies in your story? 5000km GT 335? Stock BF feeling faster than a GT 335? Unable to spin the wheels??!!?? Bad exhaust note??? Look at the end of the day you are entitled to your opinion. BTW - the driver (when I was a passenger)was a V8 Supercar driver and we well and truly tested the car's performance. Once you peel away all the rhetoric there are some udeniable truths that need to be faced. The GT 335 is better in EVERY way to the BF Typhoon. I have been an owner of 1 x BA XR6T, BA II F6, BF F6 and now FG XR6T and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the GT 335 is streets aheard of any BF and better than any other FG on the market. Finally - I doubt that you have even driven the car but that's just my opinion. If you have then I think your review is skewed towards a favourable impression of you BF OR you have driven the worst example of a GT335 in the world. FACT - It is the best all round package that Ford has every released in Australia. It is the best sounding exhaust note from any Ford ever released in the Australian market. It will out accelerate, our perform, out brake, out handle any (standard, of course) BF Falcon derivative ever made. With these FACTS in mind I really don't know how anyone can take your review seriously. For the record I will be upgrading next year to the FG F6 but that is just my preference towards turbo cars (and the price).
  15. To the OP - I call BS!! I have been a passenger in a GT 335 and all I can say is that it will slaughter your BF. It will embarrass a GT 315. Most of your 'experience' just doesn't add up. EVERY review of this car has expressed how great the exhaust note is. It is also impossible NOT no break traction in 1st and second @ WOT with the skinny rubber on the these cars. Also, you said the car had 5000km on the clock...BS - there is not a demo in Australia that clocked up that many KM. You say your stock BF F6 felt quicker. Absolute BS. I had a BF F6 and the FG XR6 is quicker. The FG is soooooo far ahead of the BA/BF that it doesn't deserve comparison. So either you drove a complete DUD or ......your whole story is complete BS. No offence to anyone on here with a B series Typhoon (I've owned 2 so I know how good they go) but I would bet pink slips that a stock GT 335 will eat a stock Typhoon. One last question - are you really HULK_BA in another guisse?
