I'm overwhelmed by what I read regarding the fabulous job Ford have done with their 4L T6. It's a shame the Ford world can't find a use for it... but life goes on.
Given Ford don't normally boast about future product, the fact that I've read the Ecoboost series of engines (in V6/V8 guise) won't be a backward step is positive news.
Given it will be a global engine (Mazda's CX-9 gives us a miniscule glimpse of the new engine) I'm very enthused about what it will do for the new Falcon (whatever form it happens to take - local or global).
It's been a long, long time coming but Ford won't be playing second fiddle to Holden in regards to engines, IMO. I say that as a 'Holden man' but like I've said before, I buy what's best. Well I do work hard for my money!

The Ecoboost may still have the power of the I6, but not the torque and you are going to have to ring its neck to get the power.

Alas we cant have it both ways.
The duratec V6 will make the Territory more competitive vs the Kluger which is very popular, arguably due to fuel consumption figures.

Ford aren't playing second fiddle to Holdens engines anyway, the Ford 6 cylinder absolutely smash the Holden V6 in every way and the turbo 6 whips every engine in Holdens and HSV's range, even the Xr6Turbo is quicker than Holdens big gun GTS, and its 30 grand cheaper. Ford V8's on the other hand can't cut it, but come 2010 they will have a new V8 to replace it that promises big performance, much lighter weight and hugely improved economy, especially if they get direct injection like they are supposed to. Then there's the twin turbo V8 that may appear.
Long live the I6 ... I do not think that we will ever see an aussie car with a factory engine with quite as much torque down low.

I'm with you JP. I think the I6 is one of the great engines of all time.
I've never been a fan before... but even BMW's mighty M3 had to go "V" sooner or later.
That's just it, the I6 architecture has packaging issues that on a global scale cannot be justified.
Good times ahead I'm sure. I think DI will be standard fare on most non 4 cyl engines come 2010.
