Don't like it, although I doubt the falcon fill look like it. Wouldn't be suprised to see the 3 bar grille in some form (apparently fords new face). The engine sounds good though, 5.0l dohc v8, been hoping these would replace the 5.4 in the falcon for a while, atleast in the GT's. These have dominated the trans am series in the US apparently (bored out 4.6, ie short stroke version of the modular v8).

we obviously wouldnt see a Falcon looking remotely like that, but they may take some ideas from it. id be happier with a flatter roof and dont mind something similar to that car's front.

No wonder the American car makers are in deep
Another atrocity of behemoth proportions. It's as ugly as the putrid 300C.
Hey but it's still better looking than an AU (Absolutely Ugly)

One can only pray the new ford looks nothing like the yank tank, however picture number 2 from SH3P in my humble opinion is another story,it looks magnificent, well proportioned, classy yet tough and sporty. I think it would destroy a billion dollar barge(commodore ),i would definately buy one if it was a turbo

Why only 30kg, that's almost of no consequence. It'd want to be a minimum of 50kg and closer to 100kg if they are fair dinkum. They have a chance to hammer GMH big time and avoid the same stupendous mistake they made with the size and weight of the VE. Although I'll say there's no chance of this happening and I bet the new Falcon is even heavier and Ford will say "Oh, the price of petrol wasn't an issue when design was signed off 2 years ago and it's too late to change the car"
Hopefully I'm wrong.

Well you can take it or leave it, but this is the info I have on some of the visual and mechanical changes on the Orion.
It's about 100kgs heavier than the current XR model, which bring it still under the VE. The front headlights are similar to the current BFII with a flatter bottom to the lens. Can't tell the front and rear bars cause the CP build car doesn't have any yet. Front lower suspension arms are now alloy, same brake options as current, ie 4 pot and 6 pot brembos. Inlet tract is revised and a new plenum had be made which helps remove much of the long inlet tract.
Engine power on the F6 is 290-300kW 600nm (exact figure not yet set), Boss engine is 310-320 kW 600nm. The F6 gets higher flowing fuel injectors (greens) and a higher flowing fuel pump, the Boss gets revised head, different exhaust, cam profile, higher comp, injectors all to try and make up the extra 30 kW or so, the F6 just gets more boost and the fuel to support it. Turbo is unchanged.
Interior is revised, but the build is not finalised yet. A larger?? ICC screen which sits higher up the centre of the dash and the vents are now below it. There is no more gauge cluster as the boost/oil, etc gauges are now in the main cluster to reduce costs. Boss starter button is now down where the tissue box used to be and it has a stop button as well now (go figure ???).
Body can't be seen cause it has masking panels glued to the panels, but the rear tail lights are now thinner (al la VE HSV) and the mirrors have the blinkers in them. Headlights are not HID.
There's more, but I've forgotten as much as I can remember. Sorry no pics... cameras and mobile phones are forbidden.
Cheers
Robin.

If this is true don't like that it is heavier but as long as it beats the holdens I suppose that is still ok. Any info on how much power the XR6T is going to put out?
Skooby
Feb 4 2007, 10:48 AM
Not sure If I like the idea of blinkers on the mirrors. IMO, it takes away the sporty look and replaces it with a luxury look.
I find it odd that they'd enhance the V8's and F6 motor and leave the turbo unchanged. Even a 5-10kw increase wouldn't cheapen their more expensive models.
Paradoxx
Feb 4 2007, 11:01 AM
In a way they have set up a really good thing right from the BA... we all know it is well below capacity power, but this is obviously giving them plenty of room to move with new models. So minimal changes to the way the F6 and XR6T engines are made are needed and they can up the power spec very cheaply.
I can't stand mirror indicators... it's distracting and takes your eyes off the centre focus when you are looking at what a car is doing in front of you.

Ah so Ford are run by morons. After all the flak Holden copped over the blowout in the VE weight, Ford have decided to fight fire with flab. here was a perfect opportunity to make ground on them. Already the FPV are as heavy or heavier as the VE's, and another 100kg on a GT-P will push it close to 2000kg. That's an embarrassment and a disgrace. No wonder they will bumping up power. Talk about shooting yourself in the both feet. It's basically an act of eco terrorism.
I can't believe they could be so stupid. They've obviously decided large car sales are goig to keep dropping and their happy to accelerate that. By 2010 we'll probably see the Falcon sales so low as not to even make the top ten. God they better hope Mondeo, sell like hotcakes. With Ford just announcing a US$12Billion dollar loss, they are on borrowed time anyway.

Hmmmm...some new info and some different info to what SpoolMan posted over at FFA.
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.ph...206#post1256206QUOTE(SpoolMan)
The GT will get 310kw.
XR8 gets the 290kw motor.
Boss engines stays much the same made in Australia as this is the most cost effective way for FPV.
The cost of assembly of a Boss in Australia is very cheap.
The GT gets a twin throttle body.
I asked about oil pump gears on the Boss to the knowledge of the source of this info, the gears remain unchanged.
The bulge stays as it’s needed to close the bonnet.
The bad news for Boss lovers no Supercharged GT, the cost is too high.
Looked at imports from the States cost still too high.
The Falcon Orion will have a new setup on the front end, the rear end will have a wider track and it’s based on the Territory setup.
Some half decent shockers absorbers for the FPV cars too.
For those of you who haven’t read our F6/XR6T Forum.
Orion Typhoon will be 300 kw from the factory that’s up 30 kw, the turbo will have some slightly smaller parts inside to reduce the turbo lag.The turbo cross over pipe is gone; the turbo compressor housing faces up instead of down.
The pipe out of the housing goes up has like a U turn in it and goes across the front of the car.
This info came from a very very good source they say some things may slightly change but that’s where things stand as of today.
Soon you will see the Orion hitting the roads for testing.

If the weight goes up the decline in sales will accelerate.
If Ford Oz deeply believe the straight six will be popular for another decade then they must invest and go to an alloy block.
They should also invest in technology to support Eco-Fuels as that is where we are heading.
Even in performance cars, people are looking for better fuel economy.
IMHO.....

200kw from a 4l with full VVti is pretty average these days. It's really should be making about 220kw and 400Nm and if they ever offer direct injection, 240kw and 430Nm would be easy. With most Jap and Euro's making this sort of power with 3-3.5l albeit a bit less torque, Ford has to move on fast.

My Golf has direct Injection and Audis have it, BMW I believe have it on their new twin turbo 335i, GMH is going to have it soon, look at the next commodore update in 2008. Many others are moving to it or have it. Significant power and torque gains and fuel savings.
