Just after the news of Chris Gubbey’s departure from Holden, comes the surprise announcement of Tom Gorman’s decision to quit Ford Australia.

Ford Motor Company’s Executive Vice President of Asia Pacific and Africa, John Parker, today announced that Bill H. Osborne will replace Gorman as President of Ford Australia.

“Bill Osborne has a wealth of business and industry knowledge and will be an immense asset to the Ford Australia team,” said Parker. “He has led the Ford of Canada team admirably since November 2005 and is well placed to take the Australian operations to the next level of global integration and significance. Tom Gorman has been an outstanding leader at Ford Australia and has brought the company through some challenging times. He has elected to move onto other exciting opportunities outside the automotive industry and we wish him well in his new role.”

Osborne, 48, who is currently President and CEO of Ford in Canada, has had extensive experience in engineering, sales, and product development. He also has had involvement with the Duratec V6 program, which will make him a perfect fit for the new Orion’s transition between the current Barra engines and the new V6 coming in 2010.

Mr Osborne takes up his role at Ford Australia from 1st of February 2008.

Does this mean the end of development of the I6- if the duratech v6 is his baby? I know its going in 2010 but a few more kw's between now and then cant hurt!

Read "Duratech" and "Product development" with emphasis in this release..... and consider i6 "development" now finished.

New car, new face, new direction, new engine - these changes are major. What we know as "Ford" is metamorphosing - get ready for an interesting ride. Probably a very exciting ride!

All future development beyond Orion is finished. Once July 31st comes Ford can no longer touch the engine or release new models onto the market unless they are Euro 4 compliant, which the Orion engines won't be. Because the Orion will be released before that date it has an exemption for 2 years, till July 2010, and then it can no longer be sold. Thats when the V6 will go in.

Gorman did a poor job. Rumour has it that he stuffed up his last post before that as well, which was Mercury I think. Thats probably why he left Ford, 2 bad jobs in a row and he was probably out the door anyway. He's apparently headed for BHP or Rio Tinto or something in the UK now.

We'll be getting the 3.7L version which has a bit more power than the 3.5L, but more torque ~380Nm. If they direct inject these engines as they bloody well should it would easily make 230kW and 400Nm.

i agree with adam, Geoff was one of the best things for Ford Australia in a long time, and that Tom didnt do very much at all, in the public eye anyways. Change is as good as a holiday.
