It's gonna be a Subi or the Bimmer!!!!
The Bimmer is on a charge after Paul Morris had a huge 67 Lap stint!

Not many Crappydoores at the pointy end this year. See what happens when they have to race a car thay actually exists and isn't purpose built for the race.

we cant get too cocky....car 99 (BF xr6T) is currently 6 laps behind a mini cooper s.....

Is car 99 even a T? It's fastest lap is 6 seconds slower than the xr8's fastest and almost 7 seconds slower than the typhoon. Also 4 seconds slower than vxr. That and it's lap speed is similiar to the celica and mini. The other T's aren't much better. Something doesn't seem right...

if ya look at it, the typhoon is only faster than the xr8 by less than a second on fastest lap time....and the astra vxr is 4 seconds faster than the T.
either way, its gunna be tough for a FORD to get anywhere near a podium, as long as they last longer than the SS i spose!!

so why was the T's lap speed so slow? Have they had a weight penalty or some other penalty? The T should be able to do a lap at least within a second of the xr8. the ss in the tale end even did a lap 5 seconds faster than the T's best. Can anyone explain this?

Because they have a boost limit imposed & the V8 produces more HP.
The T/F6 have the most benefit from 2000RPM, but when racing you are mainly on the higher end of the rev range where the turbo has less advantage.
The V8 would be within it's power range around that track.

Fair enough, but every test in motor I've seen the xr6 has been pretty close to the xr8 in lap speed around a circuit, as fast or faster. And why was the typhoon able to lap quicker than the xr8 (it has only got 10kw more stock after all)? Still doesn't seem right to me. Maybe they couldn't alter the speed limiter in the xr6t or something (I guess they're still limited to 230km/h stock)? Be interested to know if there is another reason other than the engines power delivery. I guess I expected the T's to beat a 1.8l na celica by a bit more on what is renowned to be a hp track. Maybe they're just average drivers?

Firstly they don't test around Bathurst in Motor. Bathurst has some nice long straights & a very steep hill climb & descent.
As I said before the T is limited by the production class boost level. The F6 comes under performance class & is allowed more boost & is allowed the top of the range FPV Brembos.
Basically the XR's are classed as production cars, the FPV's are classed as performance.
The F6 is allowed to run higher boost & better brakes. After all what manufacturer would like their "production class" car beating their double the price "performance class" car!
There were only 4 a Class Performance class cars racing, 2 x 335 BMW's, 1 Typhoon & 1 T50 Falcon.

Were all the turbo's BF? Any BA's?
What brakes are the XRT's and the XR8 allowed to run, standard BF, or BA premiums or something else?

That would explain the lap time difference between the XR6 Turbo and the XR8 / Typhoon, but how is it that a BMW 130i beat them?? Aren't they a slow car?
thebrunks
Apr 10 2007, 08:33 AM
The 130I produces 195kw & weighs in at 1375kg, as against 260kw & 1800kg. I'm not exactly sure what minimum weight they run in production class, but it would be based of the showroom specs.
the 130I will be lighter on fuel usage & brakes & with the German Engineering pushing the wheelbase to the max it will out handle a falcon.
The Falcon will have a slight advantage down the straights, but the BMW 130I will absolutely kill it through the corners.
