  9. Congrats biatch face So I selected our builder and had a design meeting this morning Almost reached final design, minimal changes (Kitchen sink is only a recessed single as we have the larger one in the butlers pantry etc) Pretty happy with what we've designed keeping in mind budget and so forth, 2x 300m2 houses the larger one being ours and the smaller for my parents. Huge back yard for the boys (we won't fence) and a huge multi use alfresco I'm pretty happy with our concept considering 90% is custom designed by us and we had criteria and budget to conform with. We're also having full stone bench tops, huge pivot front door and a bunch of other options in the kitchen Etc Super excited, hopefully it all happens and council do what they say and approve it Ps. Mostly happy coz I will get to live within 6kms from the cbd again and beach weeeeeeeeee

  10. 3 weeks and counting! Have since organised some activities for while we're there: Going to Universal studios Hollywood & Disneyland obviously while in LA area. Also booked a cheesy Hollywood open top bus tour to the stars homes etc. Didn't feel I could go that way and miss out on that... We're going to see a ball game in Dodgers stadium one night (dodgers vs Arizona diamondbacks)- got to do the whole flat beer/ cold hot-dog thing.... 18yo daughter said she'll go for whoever has the coolest looking cap to buy. solid strategy... Seeing Cirque Du Soleil 'Michael Jackson 'One'' in Mandalay Bay casino in Vegas. Will also do a day trip to see some desert around Vegas: Red Rock Canyon/ Hoover Dam etc. Heading to Page in east grand canyon to do a Colorado river rafting trip while in GC area. Alcatraz night tour, and cycling across Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito then ferrying back across, plus trolley cars while in SF. looking forward to it- I'll likely need to come home for a rest like is often the case with this type of holiday...

  11. Hey guys, Post updated to lock in Adelaide accommodation Friday Travelling from our various locations to the Belair Caravan Park where we'll be staying during our 2 nights in Adelaide. I spoke to Tonya this morning and she was more than happy to have us there and says she's able to put us all in cabins close to each other. Rates are very reasonable, facilities seem fantastic and there are plenty of options to choose from (even tent sites if you want to save money) Bookings can be made online, but I'd recommend calling them (08) 8278 3540 and letting them know you're with the group with ANDREW CARRUTHERS so they can fit us all in close proximity to each other. I plan on arriving between 5 and 6pm and will be putting on a BBQ for anyone interested. I'll be bringing enough meat, snags, salad, bread, plates, cutlery etc so feel free to partake - just let me know if you're up for it or not so I can work out how much to bring. Hopefully this will be a great time to introduce ourselves, have some decent chit-chat and relax before we hit the hills the next day. Firepits are available, but only during winter. They're happy to check the fire danger at the time and let us put one on if conditions allow. Saturday Entire day exploring the Adelaide hills, visit the motor museum, Chocolate Factory (afternoon tea), a couple of "Photo Op" (to make sure Evil doesn't boot me) places, a couple of dams, a Brewery (lunch), see some great roads, some other hidden gems Puff has in mind and hopefully get to spend some time with some SA forum members. Dinner Saturday at the best Mexican Restaurant I've found (I try to get to Adelaide every year or so just to get a meal here). If they let me down and the meal isn't up to the usual standards I'll be considering the whole cruise an abject failure. TBA As the Mexicans have decided to have an extended siesta instead of reopening their restaurant: Dinner Saturday will be at the German Arms Hotel in Hahndorf - right there in the hills we'll have been exploring all day. Back to the campsite after dinner to hopefully share some more stories around a firepit before retiring for the night. Sunday Limestone Coast, through Robe, Mt Gambier and spend the night in Warrnambool. Routes, activities and accommodation still to be finalised. I do have a few different routes and stops in mind and will probably discuss it Friday and Saturday night to gauge interest in the various options. Monday Back to Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road (I shouldn't need to say any more on that leg ) It will mean a couple of days off work for most people - Fri/Mon for Vics, Mon/Tues for SA if some (hopefully) join us for the GOR leg and probably Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues if any NSW guys wanted to join in for the full trip and respective days for any others coming from different directions. RULES: 1. Obey all laws whilst on the cruise; this means no speeding, no overtaking over double lines (no matter how safe you think it may be), etc... 2. There is a designated cruise leader who will lead the way and set the correct pace for all cruise members. 3. Use the Buddy system - always make sure you can see the car behind you. This will give people behind you an indication on where to turn to make sure nobody gets lost. 4. CB Radios - if you don't have one, follow the maps and directions given out. It is highly recommended to have CB as it enhances the enjoyment of the cruise being able to hear about road hazards and join in on the social chatter. 5. Please turn up to the meeting points with a sufficient fuel in your tank and enough time before the departure time. 6. Onus is on the owner/driver to ensure their vehicle is safe to drive on public roads and meets State road traffic authority laws. 7. Please ensure you have a contingency plan if you have a breakdown or unnecessarily delayed. e.g. Roadside Assistance or a mate in another car who is willing to stay with you if necessary. 8. This cruise is not to be advertised on any other media or websites or social media sites without prior agreement from the cruise organisers. 9. By attending this cruise you agree not to hold FordXR6Turbo.com, it's Administrators, Moderators, Cruise Controllers, or Owner responsible / liable for any damage and / or grief sustained (simply; you are responsible for your own actions). 16. Yeah exactly - one of the biggest slow downs to any build I've seen has been variations to a standard builders plan. To-ing and fro-ing between builder and council and owner just leads to mixups and drama. And extra months and unhappy people everywhere. It's good to find a builder who will let you do all that - if you guys have the skills its great they'll let you do it. Biggest thing will be getting a good supervisor you can both work with - sounds like you've got it all covered though - good luck! also - make sure you cable it up for decent internet access everywhere

  17. Just booked a holiday for myself, the wife, and 2 daughters to California (Los Angeles, Anaheim, Sequoia national park, San Francisco, and a few stops along highway 1 from SF to LA), Nevada (Las Vegas) & Arizona (Grand Canyon) in April. its going to be the first time in USA for us. who's been? any tips? (pun intended). favourite spots? any other advice? cheers

  18. Ahh lol that makes it simpler! Good luck n don't let them slack off on the build (or council doing approvals - some are better than others - pre-constructions not my dept I'm just the IT guy lol)

  19. House looks awesome! Hopefully council doesn't stall too long - do you have neighbors that could complain about two story? I'm kinda involved in the home building game and have heard some horror stories about houses that get approved then other folks kick up a stink and cause MAJOR drama.

  20. Mate you can borrow my USA Lonely Planet if you have not got one yet. But to be honest - you prolly won't need it now and it does weigh a ton after awhile. Your all set from what I can see - I bought mine across a few times but used the Internet more than the Lonely Planet. Cash is king but generally used my Amex everywhere (yeah no stigma or extra charge with Amex in the good ol US of A - its just like using Mastercard or Visa over there). Even for small purchases like gum and stuff - just use your credit card - its insane. But if you want cash - easiest is ATMs. Try to do some research ahead of time and find out which ATMs allow withdraws with least cost - they will always charge something but some can really sting you with their charges. Forget thinking you can walk into any bank to change Aussie into Greenbacks - you need to have a bank account to do that in most town banks and to have a bank account you need to be a resident and there are generally monthly fees - but I'm not 100% sure cos I never went that far to open a bank account. Best to find a proper money changer in a Mall somewhere and change money there. Problem is you have to find that Money changer - there not as common as banks. Generally its a flat fee which at least helps. May be to late now - but if you have Hertz Gold (free here in Australia) you get free full insurance cover in Hertz over the US and you get a separate building to goto. Don't underestimate the full insurance cover as they are pretty litigious I hear and when you are Gold in US - there really is a difference from those that just walk up. night 1,2,3: Los angeles (hollywood) [Definitely reserve 2 days for Universal if you can - when you get there and buy the day ticket I think we could go again 2nd time for free which was definitely needed cos it's so BBBIIIIGGG. The Simpson ride is way cool - but I see you have older kids than when we did it. So is the visit through the old movie sets back of the studios - from memory you can take little trolley train to do it.. If you have a car maybe check out the Premium Outlets. When ever I go I usually go over with 2 suit cases and one is completely empty. If your misses lurves shopping she ought to like the Premium Outlets. They can be a little pricey some places and the exchange rate does not help - but the quality of the clothing is much better in my opinion and you can still pick up bargins -bought 3 Ralph Lauren jeans for US $10 each that fit me exactly without shortening - bargain. I actually found the shopping in Rome better though - those Italians really know style Don't forget to try genuine Maccas - sooo much better than anywhere else on Earth ] night 4,5,6: anaheim (disneyland) [I had intended to go but never went inside - just drove by to at least see the front - it's impressive from the outside. If you tire of Disneyland you can always have a litle drive through along no. 2 Road thorugh Angeles National Park north of LA - here's a vid of the Dodge Challenger I took through there in 2015 ] then picking up a nissan maxima (premium car) night 7,8,9: Las Vegas night 10,11,12: Grand canyon night 13,14: Sequoia national park [Yosemite National Park is fantastic - Americans really know how to camp in luxury as someone else also said. The drive out to it is really good as well - nice an twisty. I stayed at the Curry Village (named after Mr Curry who setup some campsites there I think) in tent over night but it was more than $25 - I paid about $100 for 1 night there. Don't leave food outside as the bears come around rummaging sometimes so they have special metal lockable food safe boxes outside the tents. I did drive though a big red wood forest park near Yosemite - farrkk me they are sooo impressive - huge huge trees - definitely worth a visit.] night 15: barstow (just a break to shorten the drive) night 16,17,18: San Francisco (dropping the car off when we get o SF) [Looks like you ticked off 2 big attractions there - Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge (which is actually red). Leave about 3-4 hrs for Alcatraz. it is soooo eerrie. I did it during the day and the bay views are glorious. I walked across the bridge - leave about 2 hrs each way if walking. If riding you have to ride on one side of the bridge only but if you walk - you can walk both sides to see the views either side. There are toilets either end of the bridge - believe me - most people normally don't walk 2 hrs but there is absolutely no where to do no. 2s or 1s if you are on the bridge - its crowded during most of the day and totally ummm open so go before or hold it well ... Don't forget Lombard street which zig zags down - don't queue up theres a trick to avoid the queues - I think come from the south and turn right into it. Also Haigh Ashbury area is good for gander if you your into hippy 60s stuff - but that area is a bit more commercialised now than from visit. Golden Gate Park is also worth a visit on the weekends - so much stuff happening there - its such an oasis of a place.] then picking up a Cadillac xts (luxury car) night 19: driving highway 1 along coast- Big Sur- to Monterey [that's such a nice drive - I've done it twice now - once each way. Here's a vid I did in a Mustang GT I hired in Mar 2016. night 20: Pismo Beach night 21: Santa Monica [theres a Premium Outlet on the way to Santa Monica at Camarillo - well worth a stop - it sprawls 3 huge car parks and you almost need to drive to each section there that far apart. Great if you want some inexpensive name brand clothing and footwear (and caps for that matter). The aftershaves are not bad either.] then flying out from LAX If I can think of anything else I'll post up. Yeah as Rab said - we'll be in Radelaide this weekend so if you have time maybe pop around for a brew or 2

  23. Nice, that was the deciding factor for us. Al the homes we saw had massive master suites but smallish bedrooms. Our house has a 6 x 4 master (plus walk-in and ensuite) and the other 3 rooms are 5 x 3. Plenty of room for the kids beds, tallboys and desks with left over room for it not to feel cramped.

  25. Red nose I'm toying with a double or a single off to the side and more bench space The bedrooms are 3x4.2 and 3x4.5 for the boys and the back bedroom is a guest room. I'm dyslexic and cannot turn off simple functions in tapatalk Since the bathroom is open plan it's gonna be whatever is astetically pleasing to a certain point too.

  26. I like it, looks very functional. How big are the rooms upstairs (2 and 4) in the bigger house? Also please put double vanities in the master suite, azz will thank me later...lol Weather has set us back a bit but not really fussed as its not hot enough to swim now. Tiler came in yesterday and did the coping and waterline tiles, just needs to finish the feature wall. Then plumbing, almost there....

  28. Don't ya farken love it?!   Haha I just did it and got back from the drive. It was pretty underwhelming tbh. Still nothing unless it had a couple of psi in it and even with some boost it just choochood a few times then fark all.   I'll unblock it tomorrow when it cools down. It sounds nothing like a stock turbo and sounds a bit crappy really.   On the plus side it more than makes up for it under acceleration. It's got a pretty decent spool noise that's loud af.   Oh yeah and even better, since I reflashed my trans last week it has slowly started to come good. No dash lights or slipping or other crap it was doing.

  30. I've yet to hear my new turbo make choochoo noises. It just goes chumhuff atm and that's only past 15psi or so. Normal driving it just goes fsssssssss then nothing. Maybe I'll do some blocking up and join the choochoo train

  32. WMMFGT: Last few weeks I've been making more and more typos. Realised it wasn't (all) me last night when I noticed some keys were activating on their own. Pulled off a couple of keycaps to find congealed milo and vegemite toast crumbs (I imagine that's what it was) The joys of a 2yo getting near a computer :S Damaged one of the pickups when cleaning so keyboard was stuffed. Bought a new keyboard today and all fixed.

  35. Replaced the centre bearing and uni joint. I took it apart a couple of days ago and fitted the centre bearing but I only got the uni joint yesterday. I went to Hardy Spicer for the uni and paid $58 compared to Ford telling me it was $140 and they'd give it to me for $103. Cheeky farks. Being 38 degrees yesterday I put the tailshaft back together then went inside and drank beer all day. I put it all back together this morning. I went for a drive and there's no vibration so life is good.

  36. Do what you want. Remember to wear your rhino hide jacket cos youtube comments can be interesting at times. I'm sure you'll help someone out one day by posting videos like that. There was a twincharged build done before so there will be plenty of info around if you decide to go that route. If it was me though I'd sell it. It's a waste of money fixing a car that farked.

  44. GoPro Hero5 Black works well with a different microSD card Sandisk Ultra U1 (did a bike ride with it that went for 45 mins and prior to that did a stationary vid shoot that lasted 1 1/2 hrs). Just goes to show how fiddly these things are! I've also got a Sony ActionCam and its no where as sensitive to type of microSD card used (or maybe I've just been lucky). The Samsung Pro microSD I tried to use definitely seems to have issues with the Hero5 Black though. Even after formatting it was still stopping recording - this time after 30 mins. Hey Rab - do I need to bring anything in particular? Weather Sat and Sun around Adelaide look good. Hopefully stay mostly dry Great Ocean Road on Monday! Hey not to late for any of the locals to join us on the Sat and partake in Oktober fest in March Sat night ...

All work can be done by someone else and they can pay for it. Over them Spoke with my next door neighbour yesterday who is in the construction game and he said he spoke to the builder when the garage slab was getting done and told him its wrong because they did but a step in the slab and did not water proof behind the dincel wall............LOL love it. 47. Forums ridiculed people? don't think that's why I partake in forums. I personally do it to learn and to pass on any knowledge I've gathered in my life time, but hey, we all have different drivers. Like I said, I've learnt plenty from these pages, mostly by trolling old threads and pm's from those I've approached. But on the surface, a lot of knowledgeable people have left, and the majority of content these days is day to day banter, throw in some brand barracking and a fanboi club for good measure. Just passing my opinion on the place, and IMO, its no orphan, like I said Forums in general a mere shadow of what they where 10 years ago. A moderator can only moderate the content others put up.
